A Comparative Study of the Mechanical Properties of Single and Double Sided Friction Stir Welded Aluminium Joints

    Get PDF
AbstractAluminium alloys have a wide range of application in many key industries like aerospace and defence. It is necessary to have a high strength joint without much distortion in the above applications. In the present investigation, Al 1100 H14 aluminum alloy strips were joined by friction stir welding (FSW) process by single and double sided welding. Also the effect of direction of welding on tensile properties of the joints was investigated. Standard thickness (4mm) aluminium pieces were joined by FSW under various traversing speeds and rotational speeds. The effects on mechanical properties like surface hardness and tensile strength of the welded region were studied. It has been concluded that double sided welds are better in strength compared to single sided ones and same direction welds have substantial improvement in mechanical properties when compared to opposite direction ones

Psychological and Anxiety/Depression Level Assessment among Quarantine People during Covid19 Outbreak

Background- Covid-19 outbreak results in lockdown of provinces by isolating the infected ones and quarantine the population to prevent community spread of corona virus. During quarantine people has to restrict their movement and keep themselves under self-isolation at their home to prevent infections. In long quarantine period it may create psychological or anxiety/depression problem for some people. The objective of our study is to assess and understand the level of psychological, anxiety/depression in quarantine people during covid19 outbreak. Methods- Self-designed digital questionnaire has been used to assess the psychological and anxiety/depression level. The questionnaire contains questions about demographic, socio-assessment, anxiety/depression and psychological assessment. The questionnaire was circulated via digital medium. Result- Total 181 quarantined people were participated in our study, most of our population ages between of 21-30. General health of our participants is moderately good, Socio-status of our participants is fairly effected may be due to restrict movement and conservative way of living during quarantine period. 60.8% of participants become nervous some of the time, about 50% of participants shows the anxiety/depression symptoms, about 30% of our participants are somewhat affected by their sleeping patterns and about 35% participants are sometimes unsatisfied or slightly satisfied during quarantine period. Apart from this out of 181 participants 15 people are having travel history of International or national destinations. The overall mean is 2.2 and SD is 0.6. Conclusion-We found somewhat negative emotions (anxiety/depression, Socio status) in people during quarantine. Which may show low quality of life or low satisfactory life. Keywords: Covid-19, lockdown, quarantine, anxiety, depressio

Renewed research focus on cephalopod resources in the Southern Ocean

    Get PDF
Investigations of Southern Ocean cephalopods began with the pioneering expedition of HMS Challenger (Hoyle,1886) and Valdivia expedition conducted by Germany (Odhner, 1923). After the 1970s, there has been considerable research effort in cephalopod taxonomy and abundance all over the world. However, very little is known about the abundance and biodiversity of cephalopods in the Southern Ocean sector. Southern Ocean cephalopod fauna is distinctive, with high levels of endemism in the squid and play an important role, linking the abundant mesopelagic fish and crustaceans with higher predators such as albatross, seals and whales. Although not yet commercially exploited species of the family Ommastrephidae have high potential (Collins and Rodhouse, 2006)

Role of clinical pharmacist in drug utilization evaluation, medication adherence and pharmacovigilance

    Get PDF
A series of systematic, criterion-based drug evaluation known as Drug utilization review are conducted on a regular basis to ensure that medication is utilized appropriately. It’s a mean of learning more about the issues brought on by drug usage, if done properly, may help to solve the issues. Medication adherence generally refers to a patient’s ability to take prescription drugs as directed and their continued use of those drugs. The increasing body of research linking medication non adherence to unfavorable outcomes and increased healthcare cost has raised concerns among clinicians, healthcare institutions, and other stakeholders. Pharmacovigilance, in which the procedures keeping an eye on the assessing adverse medication reactions, is essential to clinical practice, public health and efficient drug regulating system.  Aim of the study was wo study about the role of pharmacist in drug utilization review, medication adherence and pharmacovigilance

Occurrence of Loliolus hardwickei (Gray,1849) from southwest coast of India

A single specimen of the little Indian squid Loliolus hardwickei was caught by trawl net bythe research vessel “F.V Silver Pompano” on 18th March 2014. It was caught from waters off Cochin at a depth of about 20 m (09°58´30´´N;76°06´18´´E). The specimen was previously described as Loliolus investigatoris(Goodrich,1896). Nevertheless, it is now reported that Loliolus investigatoris is a junior synonym of Loliolus hardwickei. This species is known to inhabit estuarine and coastal waters to a maximum depth of 30 m (FAO species catalogue for Fishery purposes, Cephalopods of the World No.4, Vol.2, 2010). The current specimen was 56.8mm in length and had weight of 13.39 g

Cephalopod Growth in the Fisheries Context In: ICAR Sponsored Winter School on Recent Advances in Fishery Biology Techniques for Biodiversity Evaluation and Conservation, 1-21 December 2018, Kochi.

Cephalopods comprising of squids, cuttlefish and octopus, have emerged as commercially important marine resources of the world. Cephalopod abundance has increased over the last six decades, resulting in quadrupling in landings from 1 to 4.71 million tonnes (2015). Many countries have initiated stock monitoring programs of this resource because of the increasing trends in their annual catches. The age composition and growth rate of fishery stocks are among the most important parameters for studying population biology, stock structure, life span and eventually for monitoring and managing the stocks appropriately

First record of the glass octopus Vitreledonella richardi (Cephalopoda: Vitreledonellidae) from the Arabian Sea

Background: Arabian Sea considered as one of the richest region of oceanic cephalopods. On conflicting information related to species diversity is still scare. Result: This work presents the first report of a paralarvae of glass octopus Vitreledonella richardi from the Arabian Sea. A single specimen was collected during dusk by Isaacs-Kidd midwater trawl net on 28 February 2015. (Horizon of 150 m at 09° 52′ 30″ N; 73° 37′ 22″ E, bottom depth: 2005 m). A description of the specimen is provided. Conclusion: Record of this rare squid, from Arabian Sea is an addition to the cephalopod fauna of India
