Any Turbulence on the Horizon? A Competitive Assessment of the Airline Industry.

The last few years have not exactly be a walk in the park for airlines worldwide as several dramatic events occurred, inter alia, the Germanwings crash in the French Alps. These tragic events have an influence on passengers' behaviors and the way they perceive the industry. Consequently, airlines must be prepared to face such crises, but also competition, and the recent appearance of low-cost carriers has changed the rules of the game. This thesis has therefore the ambition to describe, analyse and comment the way airlines compete within the internal market. This thesis will focus on three aspects of competition: the competitive strategy of a single airline, the way airlines cooperate between each other, and to finish the circumstances under which Member States are allowed to support airlines through state aid mechanisms

Word-formation in original and translated English: source language influence on the use of un- and less

This article aims to assess whether the word-formation features of translated language, as opposed to original language, are source language (SL)-dependent or translation-related. To do so, we analyze the use of the -less and un- negative affixes in original English and in English translated from four SL: French, Italian, Dutch and German. Findings based on the Europarl corpus show that the use of -less and un- in translated English is partially SL-dependent

Comment ont évolué les thématiques des 99 premiers numéros de BMS ?

How have the themes of the first 99 issues of the BMS evolved, An analysis with a text-mining software: The titles, abstracts (in French) and key words (in French) of the 315 articles published in issues 1 to 99 of the BMS from 1983 to 2008 were divided into three periods: 1983-1992 (85 articles), 1993-2000 (119 articles) and 2001-2008 (111 articles). These three corpora were individually analyzed with Calliope, an analysis by co-occurrence of key words in units of text, which produces thematic clusters. It also constructs strategic diagrams, which show the general thematic structure of each period with its axes of density (ties within a thematic cluster) and centrality (external ties between clusters). These diagrams, and those of the more dominant clusters, are presented along with their interpretation.Les titres, résumés et mots clefs des 315 articles publiés dans les numéros 1 à 99 du BMS entre 1983 et 2008 ont été divisés en trois périodes : 1983-1992 (85 articles), 1993-2000 (119 articles) et 2001-2008 (111 articles). Generation WAVY: a new breed of surface drifters for all ocean domains

A new family of multi-purpose, multi-sensor, small sized, easy-to-handle, low-cost, spherical surface drifters is about to appear in the market, with its first three models. The WAVY Ocean is a current, wave and near-surface temperature gradient tracker for the open Ocean; the WAVY Littoral is a current and wave tracker designed for nearshore operations; and the WAVY Basic is a current and nearsurface temperature tracker intended for riverine and estuarine environments, and suitable for citizen science. The WAVY optimized buoyancy - only 30% of the axes above the surface - ensures that their displacement is essentially due to the current, while their small size makes them sensitive to the average vectors in the very near surface.
