Thermodynamic Geometry of the Born-Infeld-anti-de Sitter black holes

Thermodynamic geometry is applied to the Born-Infeld-anti-de Sitter black hole (BIAdS) in the four dimensions, which is a nonlinear generalization of the Reissner-Norstr\"Aom-AdS black hole (RNAdS). We compute the Weinhold as well as the Ruppeiner scalar curvature and find that the singular points are not the same with the ones obtained using the heat capacity. Legendre-invariant metric proposed by Quevedo and the metric obtained by using the free energy as the thermodynamic potential are obtained and the corresponding scalar curvatures diverge at the Davies points.Comment: Latex,19 pages,14 figure

Malware Detection using Machine Learning and Deep Learning

Research shows that over the last decade, malware has been growing exponentially, causing substantial financial losses to various organizations. Different anti-malware companies have been proposing solutions to defend attacks from these malware. The velocity, volume, and the complexity of malware are posing new challenges to the anti-malware community. Current state-of-the-art research shows that recently, researchers and anti-virus organizations started applying machine learning and deep learning methods for malware analysis and detection. We have used opcode frequency as a feature vector and applied unsupervised learning in addition to supervised learning for malware classification. The focus of this tutorial is to present our work on detecting malware with 1) various machine learning algorithms and 2) deep learning models. Our results show that the Random Forest outperforms Deep Neural Network with opcode frequency as a feature. Also in feature reduction, Deep Auto-Encoders are overkill for the dataset, and elementary function like Variance Threshold perform better than others. In addition to the proposed methodologies, we will also discuss the additional issues and the unique challenges in the domain, open research problems, limitations, and future directions.Comment: 11 Pages and 3 Figure

On The Phase Structure and Thermodynamic Geometry of R-Charged Black Holes

We study the phase structure and equilibrium state space geometry of R-charged black holes in D=5D = 5, 4 and 7 and the corresponding rotating D3D3, M2M2 and M5M5 branes. For various charge configurations of the compact black holes in the canonical ensemble we demonstrate new liquid-gas like phase coexistence behaviour culminating in second order critical points. The critical exponents turn out to be the same as that of four dimensional asymptotically AdS black holes in Einstein Maxwell theory. We further establish that the regions of stability for R-charged black holes are, in some cases, more constrained than is currently believed, due to properties of some of the response coefficients. The equilibrium state space scalar curvature is calculated for various charge configurations, both for the case of compact as well as flat horizons and its asymptotic behaviour with temperature is established.Comment: 1 + 33 pages, LaTeX, 25 figures. A Hybrid Laser Ultrasonic Based Systemf ro Composite Molding

    Get PDF
Conventional piezoelectric based ultrasonic systems have been extensively employed for material characterization. These systems however, have been challenged by the recent need to rapidly scan large areas of new materials such as composites having complex geometry. A promising candidate addressing this issue is laser ultrasonics. Though laser ultrasonics is not new and has generated considerable research interest in the past two decades, its industrial acceptance has been limited. Among its many benefits, laser ultrasonics promise the flexibility of a couplant free inspection system. Pulsed lasers, in particular, offer energy concentration at high repetition rates which can be readily directed at any location on the specimen for interrogation purposes. The detection of laser ultrasound is usually done through Michaelson or Fabry-Perot type interferometric systems. Though these detection systems have the advantage of couplant free detection, they constitute a major component of system cost owing to the precision required. The sensitivity of such systems are also not satisfactory

Recurrent Painless Haematuria in a Well Child—A Case Report

\ua9 Association of Surgeons of India 2024.We report a case of appendico-vesical fistula (AVF) in a 12-year-old boy presenting with a 2-month history of solely recurrent painless macroscopic haematuria. Ultrasound and MRI scans were suggestive of an urachus remnant with a calculus in the bladder dome. Cystoscopy showed a bladder diverticulum with mucosal inflammation. Open laparotomy eventually revealed the AVF, as a complication of a clinically ‘silent’ acute appendicitis. AVF is a rare complication of acute appendicitis. A literature review identified 17 further paediatric cases. Whilst faecaluria and pneumaturia are pathognomonic for AVF, these were present in only 24% of patients. Most patients presented with recurrent urinary tract infections or urinary symptoms, and most had a history of abdominal pain and vomiting. Imaging studies and cystoscopy were often inconclusive, and most diagnoses were made at surgery. A high index of clinical suspicion helps to guide diagnosis and treatment

Pattern Separation: A Common Function for New Neurons in Hippocampus and Olfactory Bulb

    Get PDF
While adult-born neurons in the olfactory bulb (OB) and the dentate gyrus (DG) subregion of the hippocampus have fundamentally different properties, they may have more in common than meets the eye. Here, we propose that new granule cells in the OB and DG may function as modulators of principal neurons to influence pattern separation and that adult neurogenesis constitutes an adaptive mechanism to optimally encode contextual or olfactory information. See the related Perspective from Aimone, Deng, and Gage, “Resolving New Memories: A Critical Look at the Dentate Gyrus, Adult Neurogenesis, and Pattern Separation,” in this issue of Neuron

Inherited thrombophilia in young Indian adults presenting with thrombotic vascular events

    Get PDF
Background: There is limited Indian data available regarding inherited thrombophilias. This study was to determine the prevalence of inherited thrombophilias in young Indian patients presenting with thrombotic events. Methods: This study was done at a tertiary hospital in Western India over a period of 20 months. Epidemiological, clinical and laboratory data was recorded of all consecutive patients aged 16 to 45 admitted with arterial and venous thrombotic vascular events. Blood samples for the thrombophilia profile were sent. Data was tabulated and analyzed using microsoft excel and graph pad software. Results: 49 patients aged 15 to 45 years, admitted with thrombotic vascular events a period of 20 months were included. 26 (53.1%) were male. The mean age was 22.2±7 years. 20 (40.8%) patients; 10 (38.5%) males and 10 (43.5%) females had at least one thrombophilia. The commonest thrombophilia in both arterial and venous thrombotic events was hyperhomocysteinemia. Conclusions: Young patients with thrombotic vascular events should be tested for thrombophilias since they are an important risk factor in this subset of patients
