La production d’une baladodiffusion éducative en obstétrique et gynécologie

Implication Statement: Podcasts are used in medical education to supplement conventional teaching methods such as lectures and reading. We identified a lack of Canadian medical education podcasts covering obstetrics and gynecology (Ob/Gyn) content and created a podcast specific for Canadian medical students and residents. The podcast called “OB-G in YEG” is freely available and currently has fourteen episodes that cover common topics in Ob/Gyn. We describe the process for creating a high-quality medical education resource that is widely accessible to learners that readers may be able to replicate in their own discipline.ÉnoncĂ© des implications de la recherche Les baladodiffusions sont utilisĂ©es dans l’éducation mĂ©dicale en complĂ©ment aux mĂ©thodes d’enseignement traditionnelles comme les cours magistraux et la lecture de textes.

    Analytic Loops and Gauge Fields

    Get PDF
In this paper the linear representations of analytic Moufang loops are investigated. We prove that every representation of semisimple analytic Moufang loop is completely reducible and find all nonassociative irreducible representations. We show that such representations are closely associated with the (anti-)self-dual Yang-Mills equations in R8{\bf R}^8Comment: 10 pages, LaTeX, no figure

    Vibrational energy relaxation in proteins

An overview of theories related to vibrational energy relaxation (VER) in proteins is presented. VER of a selected mode in cytochrome c is studied using two theoretical approaches. One is the equilibrium simulation approach with quantum correction factors, and the other is the reduced model approach which describes the protein as an ensemble of normal modes interacting through nonlinear coupling elements. Both methods result in estimates of the VER time (sub ps) for a CD stretching mode in the protein at room temperature. The theoretical predictions are in accord with the experimental data of Romesberg's group. A perspective on future directions for the detailed study of time scales and mechanisms for VER in proteins is presented.Comment: 12 pages, 4 figures, accepted for publication in PNA

Duality between a deterministic cellular automaton and a bosonic quantum field theory in 1+1 dimensions

    Get PDF
Methods developed in a previous paper are employed to define an exact correspondence between the states of a deterministic cellular automaton in 1+1 dimensions and those of a bosonic quantum field theory. The result may be used to argue that quantum field theories may be much closer related to deterministic automata than what is usually thought possible. Version 2 had a minor typo corrected and notation was made more consistent.Comment: 18 pages (incl. Title page). No figure

The Seven-sphere and its Kac-Moody Algebra

We investigate the seven-sphere as a group-like manifold and its extension to a Kac-Moody-like algebra. Covariance properties and tensorial composition of spinors under S7S^7 are defined. The relation to Malcev algebras is established. The consequences for octonionic projective spaces are examined. Current algebras are formulated and their anomalies are derived, and shown to be unique (even regarding numerical coefficients) up to redefinitions of the currents. Nilpotency of the BRST operator is consistent with one particular expression in the class of (field-dependent) anomalies. A Sugawara construction is given.Comment: 22 pages. Derivations and automorphisms of free nilpotent Lie algebras and their quotiens

Let \n_{d,t} be the free nilpotent Lie algebra of type dd and nilindex tt. Starting out with the derivation algebra and the automorphism group of \n_{d,t}, we get a natural description of derivations and automorphisms of any generic nilpotent Lie algebra of the same type and nilindex. Moreover, along the paper we discuss several examples to illustrate the obtained results.Comment: 13 page

Developing a core outcome set for future infertility research : An international consensus development study

    Get PDF
STUDY QUESTION: Can a core outcome set to standardize outcome selection, collection and reporting across future infertility research be developed? SUMMARY ANSWER: A minimum data set, known as a core outcome set, has been developed for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and systematic reviews evaluating potential treatments for infertility. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY: Complex issues, including a failure to consider the perspectives of people with fertility problems when selecting outcomes, variations in outcome definitions and the selective reporting of outcomes on the basis of statistical analysis, make the results of infertility research difficult to interpret. STUDY DESIGN, SIZE, DURATION: A three-round Delphi survey (372 participants from 41 countries) and consensus development workshop (30 participants from 27 countries). PARTICIPANTS/MATERIALS, SETTING, METHODS: Healthcare professionals, researchers and people with fertility problems were brought together in an open and transparent process using formal consensus science methods. MAIN RESULTS AND THE ROLE OF CHANCE: The core outcome set consists of: viable intrauterine pregnancy confirmed by ultrasound (accounting for singleton, twin and higher multiple pregnancy); pregnancy loss (accounting for ectopic pregnancy, miscarriage, stillbirth and termination of pregnancy); live birth; gestational age at delivery; birthweight; neonatal mortality; and major congenital anomaly. Time to pregnancy leading to live birth should be reported when applicable. LIMITATIONS, REASONS FOR CAUTION: We used consensus development methods which have inherent limitations, including the representativeness of the participant sample, Delphi survey attrition and an arbitrary consensus threshold. WIDER IMPLICATIONS OF THE FINDINGS: Embedding the core outcome set within RCTs and systematic reviews should ensure the comprehensive selection, collection and reporting of core outcomes. Research funding bodies, the Standard Protocol Items: Recommendations for Interventional Trials (SPIRIT) statement, and over 80 specialty journals, including the Cochrane Gynaecology and Fertility Group, Fertility and Sterility and Human Reproduction, have committed to implementing this core outcome set. STUDY FUNDING/COMPETING INTEREST(S): This research was funded by the Catalyst Fund, Royal Society of New Zealand, Auckland Medical Research Fund and Maurice and Phyllis Paykel Trust. The funder had no role in the design and conduct of the study, the collection, management, analysis or interpretation of data, or manuscript preparation.
