Analysis of an Improved Distributed Checkpointing Algorithm

    Get PDF
This paper presents the analysis of an improved distributed checkpointing algorithm. It shows that the message volume of Koo and Toueg\u27s distributed checkpointing algorithm approaches 3fN for large checkpoint intervals where N is the number of processes and processes randomly send messages to f other processes. Thus, the average mesage volume is O(n2). We show how Koo and Toueg\u27s algorithm can be modified so as to avoid this O9n2) overhead and derive an accurate estimate of the message volume. The overhead is reduced by using dependency knowledge to substantially reduce the average message volume

This paper shows how Koo and Toueg\u27s distributed checkpointing algorithm can be modified so as to substantially reduce the average message volume. It attempts to avoid O(n{squared}) messages by using dependency knowledge to reduce the number of checkpoint request messages. Lemmas on consistency and termination are also included

    WIRELESS NETWORKS FOR NEXT GENERATIONS

ABSTRACT: Next generation mobile networks, commonly referred to as 4G, and are envisaged as a multitude of heterogeneous systems interacting through a horizontal IP-centric architecture. Researchers and industry leaders are trying to contribute their ideas to the deployment of the yet-undefined 4G wireless world that is estimated to be operational around 2010. Although 4G is currently undefined there are many current opinions that outline the vision of the new wireless technologies. 4G must be dynamic and adaptable with built-in intelligence. Key challenges will be personalization, seamless access, quality of service, intelligent billing. Future wireless networks will need to support diverse IP multimedia applications to allow sharing of resources among multiple users. There must be a low complexity of implementation and an efficient means of negotiation between the end users and the wireless infrastructure. In this paper we have discussed challenges, Service & applications in next generation mobile network

Supply chain management is becoming very essential for any company for its growth and success. In today's dynamic world, rapidly changing technologies have significant effects on virtually all areas of business, which are expressed in terms of opportunity and threats, including supply chain of goods and services in the marketing channels. These new changing technologies provide opportunity to firms. The company needs to function under an efficient supply chain system where the customers can get maximum satisfaction. A proficient supply chain should concern suppliers, retailers and distributors getting appropriate profits with final consumer getting the value for their money spent and importantly product satisfaction. This dissertation attempts to study and analyze important dimensions related to the supply channel management in retail sector. It describes various dimensions of SCM through literature review in the beginning and then analyzes case studies of Sears, Roebuck & Company and Wal-Mart while administering it to number of different retail companies. The study discovered quite useful results to be applied in practice. Some of the aspects did not fulfill the expectations which called for improvement, and in view of that, recommendations have been suggested which the retail sector might find useful to exploit

Comparison of prices of commonly used drugs in AMRIT pharmacy, Jan Aushadhi Centre and Private chemist shop: An analytical study from a tertiary care centre in Haryana

Background: The price of medicine in India has always been a point of discussion in public domain. The price range of the same drug is very large with more than 100% difference between various brands available in different settings. Aims and Objectives: To assess the price of different drugs at Jan Aushasdhi (JA), AMRIT and Private Chemist and to compare the prices of these three outlets so that the issues. Material and Methods: This institution-based cross-sectional study was carried out from May 2019 to June 2019. A pretested proforma was prepared to compare the prices of 284 different medicines in Jan Aushadhi, AMRIT and private chemist shops. The collected data were entered in an Excel spreadsheet and presented in Proportions, percentages, and mean. Results: The price of 284 medicines were compared from JA (Median(IQR)- 15.18(18.75) INR) and Private chemist shop (Median(IQR)-88(111.5) INR) while 249 medicine from AMRIT (Median(IQR)-61.05(78.33) INR). Although the majority of the AMRIT drugs are cheaper than the chemist shop except for 31% of Antipsychotic drugs, 26.6% of antihypertensives, 25% of respiratory drugs, 25% of steroids, 21.9% of antibiotics. Conclusion: We concluded that JA is providing drugs cheaper than AMRIT and Private chemist . The prices of medicines offered at AMRIT  are lower than market pricing but they are costlier when compared to JA prices

Terminalia chebula (TC) is a unique herb having various therapeutic potentials as anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anticancer, and digestant. It belongs to family Combretaceae. In the present review, an attempt has been made to decipher classification, chemical constituents, therapeutic uses, and patents that have been reported for TC. Various pharmacological activities of TC that make it as potential medicine and its Ayurvedic formulations are highlighted. Keywords: Terminalia chebula, Anti-oxidant, Anti-cancer, Ayurvedic formulations, Anti-oxidant

Damping Analysis of Composites Used in Drilling Machine Bed

Vibrations are generally occurs during the machining process as drilling, milling etc. which is the main cause of defects in the machine tools. So vibrational damping study is very necessary for minimizing the vibrational effect on the machines bed. At present work glass fiber epoxy and glass fiber polyester are the composites used as the drilling machine bed as a base of the work piece. The purpose of the paper is to analyze the damping of sandwich composites used in this work is calculating by the energy balance approach method

Evaluation of safety, clinical outcomes, and patient-reported outcomes after meniscus repair using surestitch all inside meniscal repair implant: a retrospective and observational study

Background: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries and meniscus injuries frequently co-occur, underscoring the interconnected nature of knee joint structures. Meniscus injuries, often caused by sports trauma or degenerative changes, necessitate careful management to preserve joint function and prevent complications like osteoarthritis. This retrospective observational study evaluates the safety, clinical outcomes, and patient-reported outcomes of meniscus repair using Surestitch all inside meniscal repair implant, a contemporary solution designed to optimize meniscal repair. Methods: The study, approved by the institutional ethics committee, included patients aged 18-80 years who underwent meniscus repair with Surestitch between October 2020 and July 2022. Data on demographics, surgical details, and outcomes were collected from medical records and telephonic follow-ups. Results: Among 36 subjects, the mean age was 36.89 years. The mean (SD) duration of follow-up was 364 days (127). There was no meniscus repair failure noted in any of the patients. Functional patient-reported outcomes assessed using international knee documentation committee (IKDC) with a score of (60.15±12.40), and Lysholm scores (77.03±14.45) demonstrated favorable results. The knee injury and osteoarthritis outcome score (KOOS) of (54.63) further indicated positive knee health across domains. There were no adverse events or reoperations. Conclusions: The study demonstrated favorable safety, clinical outcomes, and patient-reported outcomes, yielding satisfactory results, and consequently establishing the safety and effectiveness of the Surestitch All inside meniscal repair implant in meniscus repair
