Deep Saturated Free Electron Laser Oscillators and Frozen Spikes

We analyze the behavior of Free Electron Laser (FEL) oscillators operating in the deep saturated regime and point out the formation of sub-peaks of the optical pulse. They are very stable configurations, having a width corresponding to a coherence length. We speculate on the physical mechanisms underlying their growth and attempt an identification with FEL mode locked structures associated with Super Modes. Their impact on the intra-cavity nonlinear harmonic generation is also discussed along with the possibility of exploiting them as cavity out-coupler.Comment: 28 page

Generalized Trigonometric Functions and Matrix Parameterization

The generalized trigonometric functions (GTF) have been introduced using an appropriate redefinition of Euler type identities involving non-standard forms of imaginary numbers, realized by different types of matrices. In this paper we use the GTF to get parameterization of practical interest for non-singular matrices. The possibility of using this procedure to deal with applications in electron transport is also touched on

Physical Activity and Adiposity Markers at Older Ages: Accelerometer Vs Questionnaire Data

    Get PDF
Physical activity is critically important for successful aging, but its effect on adiposity markers at older ages is unclear as much of the evidence comes from self-reported data on physical activity. We assessed the associations of questionnaire-assessed and accelerometer-assessed physical activity with adiposity markers in older adults

Pathway to a Compact SASE FEL Device

Newly developed high peak power lasers have opened the possibilities of driving coherent light sources operating with laser plasma accelerated beams and wave undulators. We speculate on the combination of these two concepts and show that the merging of the underlying technologies could lead to new and interesting possibilities to achieve truly compact, coherent radiator devices

Free electron laser high gain equation and harmonic generation

The FEL integral equation is reviewed here and is studied under different contexts, accounting for diverse physical regimes. We include higher order harmonics and saturation effects, and explain the origin of scaling relations, widely exploited to describe either FEL dynamics or nonnlinear harmonic generation

Generalized bessel functions and their use in bremsstrahlung and multi-photon processes

    Get PDF
The theory of Generalized Bessel Functions is reviewed and their application to various problems in the study of electro-magnetic processes is presented. We consider the cases of emission of bremsstrahlung radiation by ultra-relativistic electrons in linearly polarized undulators, including also exotic configurations, aimed at enhancing the harmonic content of the emitted radiation. The analysis is eventually extended to the generalization of the FEL pendulum equation to treat Free Electron Laser operating with multi-harmonic undulators. The paper aims at picking out those elements supporting the usefulness of the Generalized Bessel Functions in the elaboration of the theory underlying the study of the spectral properties of the bremsstrahlung radiation emitted by relativistic charges, along with the relevant flexibility in accounting for a large variety of apparently uncorrelated phenomenolgies, like multi-photon processes, including non linear Compton scattering
