    The impact of food-hygiene practices, leadership effectiveness, and spiritual intelligence towards Program Latihan Dan Khidmat Negara (PLKN) foodservice performance / Mazni Saad

    Food poisoning cases in the National Service and Training Programme (PLKN) camps are on the rise for over 10 consecutive years despite measures taken by responsible parties and therefore require further attention. Specifically, an unchanged pattern of foodborne incidence has triggered an alarming question on the sustainable operation of food service business in these camps. The objectives of this study are to (i) assess the Food-hygiene Practices of food handlers at PLKN, (ii) to analyse the relationship between Leadership Effectiveness, Food-hygiene Practices, and Spiritual Intelligence (SQ) and (iii) to investigate the impact of these study variables; Leadership Effectiveness, Food-hygiene Practices, and SQ on PLKN”s Foodservice Performance. The existing level of Food-hygiene Practices was assessed through questionnaire, interview, and observation, as well as microbial sampling experiments. The questionnaire also assessed the relationship and impact of the four parameters of the study (Leadership Effectiveness, Food-hygiene Practices, SQ, and Foodservice Performance). The survey yielded 87.80% responses from 81 operating camps in Malaysia and provided 1026 usable datasets. Six sets of interviews were conducted among the supervisory personnel of the PLKN camps. For empirical data, 288 microbiological samplings of food-contact surfaces (FCS) and 36 drinking water sources were conducted. The data was analysed using the partial least square and appropriate statistic tools. The microbial analyses failed to correlate with the cleanliness survey, but were consistent with food poisoning outbreaks in the camps. FCS with flat open surfaces such as cutting boards and food trays were found exposed to secondary contamination during the drying and storing stage

Punbegitu, statistik kemalangan dalam sektor tersebut menunjukkan tahap· bahaya di tempat ketja mungkin telah mengurangkan keupayaan dan keberkesanan operasi sesebuah firma dan seterusnya mencetus kemerosotan prestasi. Sementara itu, Amalan Keselamatan dan-Kesihatan Peketjaan(OSH) telah dikenalpasti sebagai faktor penting dalam mengurangi gangguan kepada pengeluaran dan menghapuskan perkara yang tidak ada nilai-tambah dalam pemiagaan. Justeru itu, tiga matlamat utama kajian ini ialah mengenal pasti amalan-amalan yang membentuk amalan OSH, mengenal pasti kewujudan amalan OSH dalam firma perkilangan dan mengkaji perhubungan di antara amalan OSH dan prestasi operasi. Dido kong oleh teori domino dan socio-technical, amalan OSH di dalam kaj ian ini adalah dari amalan yang dianggap penting untuk prestasi seperti yang dinyatakan menerusi ulasan karya, garis-panduan dari pihak kerajaan dan temuduga di sektor perkilangan. The manufacturing sector is the backbone of Malaysia's economy. However, accident statistics for this sector show levels of hazard in the workplace that may reduce the operating ability and efficiency of a firm and consequently lead to a decrease in performance. Meanwhile, OSH practices are acknowledged as an important factor in terms of reducing interruptions to production and eliminating non-added value to business. Thus, the aims of this study are threefold. Firstly it will identify the composition of OSH practices, secondly it will determine the existing OSH practices in manufacturing firms, and thirdly it will examine the relationship between OSH practices and operational performance

    A study on the economic potential of blood cockles (Anadara granosa) in Rokan Hilir, Riau Province, Indonesia

    This research was conducted from January to July 2019 in Rokan Hilir Regency, Riau Province for the purpose of investigating the prospects and economic potentials of blood cockle (Anadara granosa) cultivation in the regency. The methods used included a survey, direct observation and an in-depth interview with 65 marine cockle cultivators and related stakeholders in the three production centers of marine fisheries, namely Panipahan, Bagansiapiapi and Sinaboi. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively and its business feasibility analyzed. The results showed that the blood cockle cultivation business of Rokan Hilir is very profitable (BCR 1.88 and PPC 1.92). In addition, the prospects of developing cockle cultivation is also good because of the wide (124,000,000 m2) land potential available, the low demand for high skills, and the accessibility for export of products to the Malaysian market

    Intensifying Focus on Service Quality in Higher Education Institutions: Emotional and Spiritual Intelligence

    The influence of Emotional and Spiritual Intelligence was investigated on the lecturers’ Service Quality. Based on stratified sampling method, the results confirmed that both types of intelligence have a positive and significant influence on the lecturers’ teaching progression. In conclusion, if the average level of each intelligence was good, then the level of Service Quality would also excel accordingly. The study highlights the need to have both EQ and SQ as it will encourage and motivate them into giving their best service to the university as well as their highest commitment towards giving students the best quality learning experience.   Keywords: Emotional Intelligence; Higher Education Institutions; Service Quality; Spiritual Intelligence eISSN: 2398-4287© 2020.     Brand experience and brand trust: an impact towards customer brand loyalty in theme park service industry

    Theme park industry seems to have potential in sustaining its products and services through brand recognition by the public and also tourists. However, it is hard to sustain the industry due to the lack of loyal customers as they are seeking for unique and lasting experiences from theme park brand. Lack of safety and security management by the theme park operators also contributed to trust issues towards the theme park brand. Therefore, this paper aims to identify the impact of brand experience and brand trusts towards achieving brand loyalty in a theme park. In such, it is important for theme park organiser to manage the customer brand experience and brand trust towards the theme park brand so that theme park closure issue can be avoided. The study was carried out by conduting a survey around 300 respondents who is living in adjacent to Selangor and regression analysis in SPSS was used to analyse the impact of brand experience and brand trusts towards customer loyalty in a theme park

    Recently, the term satisfaction has been extensively used in tourism. In general, service provider sectors are striving to meet their customer’s satisfaction by delivering the best hospitality for their business. The importance of customer satisfaction can never be ignored especially when working in the tourism industry. In fact, delivering good customer service experience are essentials for most businesses especially service provider. World Tourism Organization has proposed to Governments to establish National Certification System for Sustainable Tourism and among the suggested criteria in the social indicator is a guest feedback system and customer satisfaction. Failure in delivering good customer service has brought so many negative impacts especially in terms of customer loyalty and sustainability of the businesses. The objective of this research is to point out the reactions on customer satisfaction regarding service quality and company image offered by Air Asia by using Parasuraman SERVQUAL Model. This study has highlighted four components of service quality which is, caring, reliability, tangibility, and responsiveness. The second objective is to recognize the significant issues that can influence the progression of customer satisfaction on Air Asia management and the last objective is to verify the important relationship of company image and services quality toward customer satisfaction of the Air Asia management. By understanding customer satisfaction, the authorities for the service provider in the tourism sector could take actions that will enhance local Airlines Industry image and brand as well as ensuring the sustainability of the business.     A conceptual paper: the study of competencies of tourism students towards their work experience

    Tourism Industry is an emerging industry that always change due to the tourists demands. Hence, the demand keeps evolving which resulting on the improvement of skills and knowledge of the key players. This study is to identify the competencies of tourism students towards their work experience. Apart from that, the emerging tourism industry really needs competent and suitable employers to continue the successfulness of the industry. As stated by Adeyinka-Ojo (2018), among the common barrier in the recruitment functions in the hospitality and tourism sector is the low frequency of basic skills. This shows that most of the tourism fresh graduates are incompetent where they are lacking even in the basic skills such as communication skills. A set of online questionnaire will be used in this study which then will be contributed to the fellow respondents. Besides, purposive sampling is used in this research study as the respondents have been acknowledged by the researcher which are the Tourism Planning and Hospitality Management from International Islamic University of Malaysia, IIUM. The results will then emphasis on the role of internship becoming the most efficient factors affecting this study as the internship is the most reliable platform for the fresh graduates to improve themselves to be more competent in the industry. Thus, the results of these findings will help to improve the competencies of tourism industries nevertheless helps to produce competent graduates that suit this emerging tourism industry. To add, it is recommended for future studies to include more industry despite only on the tourism industry in their study to have betterment in the combination of various industries to bring fortune towards the country’s economic status

    Recent years, Melaka has become one of the hotspot attractions places where from the statistics show that tourist arrival in Melaka keeps increasing every year that generates income to the community in Melaka and the country. The quiet huge number of returning tourists in Melaka makes the researcher wants to investigate the main reason or factor that lead the tourists willing to return again. Thus, the purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between service provided, social media and cultural values impact be the factors that can influence them to have revisit intention Melaka. Data is collected from tourists that already revisit Melaka through survey form and total of respondents is 58. There are notable findings where there is a significant relationship between service provided, social media and cultural values impact and revisit intention. There have several limitations such as sample size and the data collection is small and sampling bias and margin of error

    The effectiveness of travel blogs on consumers’ travel planning

    This research explores the effectiveness of travel blogs on consumers’ travel planning through information search, decision making and visual communication. There is an uncertainty of tourist services information from travel blogs that have affected consumers’ travel planning in addition to the functions of travel blogs are not as prevalent as it is mostly used in the advantage of Destination Marketing Organizations (DMOs). This research proposes two research questions which are travel blogs have the functions that affect consumers’ travel planning and to what degree travel blogs could influence travel planning. This research uses quantitative approach in which questionnaire is used for the instrument and the targeted population is on Education Hub Pagoh. A total of 54 respondents is obtained from the distributed instrument. The results are run through Pearson correlation analysis followed by regression analysis in which this research shows that effectiveness, information search, decision making and visual communication has a positive relationship with each other but not all variables are significant for use.
