    Cost allocation for the problem of pollution reduction: a dynamic cooperative game approach

    This paper studies CO2 emissions at a global level. The authors use Dynamic Optimisation to derive the minimum penalty cost on countries every single time. They then use an Imputation Distribution Procedure to allocate the minimum penalty cost among countries. Their work provides the extension of the Shapley value cost allocation as a penalty to reduce CO2 emissions. The paper has implications for how to provide initiatives to improve cooperation on reducing CO2 emissions at an international level. Results show that a reduction in cost of only one country can be harmful for other countries. In this way, some countries can end up or worse off in a case where all countries experience a uniform decrease in their penalty cost. Therefore, the findings of this work suggest a low penalty-cost scenario that helps the countries fight for pollution reduction and provide fruitful links for policy-makers. They show that the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) of the Kyoto Protocol could be implemented by the Shapley value cost allocation

    Assessing the factors of green computing adoption among manufacturing employees: an analysis of the electrical and electronic sector

    Recent trends and heavy uses of IT products and electronic gadgets have led to a proliferation of green computing studies because these wastes are not biodegradable. A significant amount of previous studies has been performed on green computing at the organizational level with most studies tend to focus on developed countries. The present study examined numerically the most influential factor towards the employees’ intention to adopt green computing and measure the intention level of employees in green computing adoption. The current study explored five adoption factors with five hypotheses have been established. These hypotheses were theorized from Theory of Planned Behaviour with emphasis on environmental concern. Previous studies from Malaysia context have primarily concentrated on green computing in education sector compared to manufacturing sector. Hence the study was conducted at electrical and electronic industries located at southern Malaysia. Questionnaires were purposely distributed to 250 respondents, however only 110 responses were valid that yielded response rate of 56%. Respondents are among the employees in IT and administration department that equipped with ICT application. The finding verifies the most influential factor affecting green computing adoption is environmental concern with 43.8%. All factors were proved to have positive correlation to the green computing intention. This correlation is related to the high intention level of employees in practicing green computing due to headquarters initiatives and the conditions set by the importing countries. Social norms have less impact towards behavioral intention to practice green computing that manifested by the low correlation percentage. The current study contributes to our knowledge on the green computing intention among manufacturing employees in Malaysia besides the implications of the results and future research directions. This study will help the policy makers in promoting environmental awareness among users of computing devices

    Assessing the Use of Mobile Technology for Technical English

    Mobile technology in a new learning paradigm indicates the use of mobile and wireless technologies which scaffold the teaching and learning dimension in most tertiary institutions. The objective of this paper is to assess the level of students’ readiness in using a mobile technology for Technical English in one of the technical universities in Malaysia. A quantitative analysis was used through a survey method in which 200 survey questionnaires were sent out to randomly selected students in engineering faculties at the Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka. The findings showed that the majority of students were ready to embark for a mobile-based learning as they had mobile phones equipped with a 3G service for class notes retrieval, multimedia messaging services, video call services for easy interaction among peers and with tutors. The results provide useful guidelines for curriculum designers and educators. Future work should integrate the perspectives of administrative units and educators to gain an overall assessment of the mobile technology readiness from various dimensions

    Improved direct torque control load torque estimator with the influence of steering angle for dual induction motors electric vehicle traction drive system

    Front-wheel direct-driven dual motors of an electric vehicle (EV) with a single controller configuration offer great potential and flexibility for improving system performance, efficiency and safety. The objective of the paper is to design a new load torque estimator of Direct Torque Control (DTC) by merging the electrical model with the mechanical model of an EV traction system to improve the dual motors single controller configuration. The electrical model utilise Space Vector PWM (SVPWM) DTC control of dual induction motors fed Five-leg Inverter (FLI) while the mechanical model takes the 14DOF vehicle dynamic model as its main structure. The new technique used is by integrating lateral force with longitudinal force produced at the touch point of a tyre with road surface as the input to the new load torque estimator of DTC. The new load torque estimator technique results were, then, compared with the standard load torque estimator that used the voltage and current feedback only. The findings showed that while torque estimator of conventional DTC had no effect of steering angle on the speed, torque and current performance of the motors, the new load torque estimator showed a significant impact. The speed, torque and current responds of the motors now have precisely been estimated; following the trajectory of the steering angle. Hence, for future research the new load torque estimator with the accurate and precise speed and torque response can further be utilized in stability, slip and skid and traction control or even for electronic braking system

    Endoscopic Therapy of Colonic Liver Flexure Mucocele

    Colorectal mucoceles usually arise in the appendix, and colonic disease is very rare. We report the first case of a mucocele of the colonic liver flexure that was treated successfully with endoscopy. A 36-year-old man was admitted to our hospital because of abdominal distension persisting for 3 days. Colonoscopic examination revealed a round polyp in the hepatic flexure, and we performed hot snare polypectomy with argon plasma coagulation. Histologically, the polypectomy specimen was confirmed to be a mucocele, with no neoplastic changes. Follow-up examinations at 6 and 12 months showed no evidence of recurrence

    A self-perceived analysis of students intelligence and academic achievement

    Multiple Intelligences (MI) are eight different ways to demonstrate intellectual ability. It is how human learn best and apply to daily activities. The theory states that every human has at least two or more intelligences, for example, verbal-linguistic, logic-mathematic, intrapersonal, interpersonal, visual-spatial, musical, natural and existential intelligences. The objective of this paper is to identify and analyse the relationship between students’ intelligence and academic achievement among polytechnic students. The theories of MI are used in this study where the instrument used was Ujian Multiple Intelligence (UMI) which showed a positive correlation between their intelligence and academic achievement. The correlation for interpersonal, verbal-linguistic, bodily-kinesthetic, visual-spatial and musical is at a moderate rate while naturalistic, intrapersonal and logic-mathematic is weak. It is highly recommended that educators, although with minimal knowledge of Information Technology (IT), use the online MI teaching tools in the teaching and learning aspect
