    Torsion-Adding and Asymptotic Winding Number for Periodic Window Sequences

    In parameter space of nonlinear dynamical systems, windows of periodic states are aligned following routes of period-adding configuring periodic window sequences. In state space of driven nonlinear oscillators, we determine the torsion associated with the periodic states and identify regions of uniform torsion in the window sequences. Moreover, we find that the measured of torsion differs by a constant between successive windows in periodic window sequences. We call this phenomenon as torsion-adding. Finally, combining the torsion and the period adding rules, we deduce a general rule to obtain the asymptotic winding number in the accumulation limit of such periodic window sequences

    Dynamical matrix for arbitrary quadratic fermionic bath Hamiltonians and non-Markovian dynamics of one and two qubits in an Ising model environment

    We obtain the analytical expression for the Kraus decomposition of the quantum map of an environment modeled by an arbitrary quadratic fermionic Hamiltonian acting on one or two qubits, and derive simple functions to check the non-positivity of the intermediate map. These functions correspond to two different sufficient criteria for non-Markovianity. In the particular case of an environment represented by the Ising Hamiltonian, we discuss the two sources of non-Markovianity in the model, one due to the finite size of the lattice, and another due to the kind of interactions.Comment: 11 pages, 10 figure

The separability of the corresponding Schr\"odinger equation is discussed within radial cylindrical mass settings.     A Framework for Twitter Events Detection, Differentiation and its Application for Retail Brands

    We propose a framework for Twitter events detection, differentiation and quantification of their significance for predicting spikes in sales. In previous approaches, the differentiation between Twitter events has mainly been done based on spatial, temporal or topic information. We suggest a novel approach that performs clustering of Twitter events based on their shapes (taking into account growth and relaxation signatures). Our study provides empirical evidence that through events differentiation based on their shape one can clearly identify clusters of Twitter events that contain more information about future sales than the non-clustered Twitter signal. We also propose a method for automatic identification of the optimum event window, solving a task of window selection, which is a common problem in the event study field. The framework described in this paper was tested on a large-scale dataset of 150 million Tweets and sales data of 75 brands, and can be applied to the analysis of time series from other domains

    In Quest of Significance: Identifying Types of Twitter Sentiment Events that Predict Spikes in Sales

    We study the power of Twitter events to predict consumer sales events by analysing sales for 75 companies from the retail sector and over 150 million tweets mentioning those companies along with their sentiment. We suggest an approach for events identification on Twitter extending existing methodologies of event study. We also propose a robust method for clustering Twitter events into different types based on their shape, which captures the varying dynamics of information propagation through the social network. We provide empirical evidence that through events differentiation based on their shape we can clearly identify types of Twitter events that have a more significant power to predict spikes in sales than the aggregated Twitter signal

    Development of virus resistant transgenic papayas expressing the coat protein gene from a Brazilian isolate of Papaya ringspot virus.

    Translatable and nontranslatable versions of the coat protein (cp) gene of a Papaya ringspot virus (PRSV) isolate collected in the state of Bahia, Brazil, were engineered for expression in Sunrise and Sunset Solo varieties of papaya (Carica papaya). The biolistic system was used to transform secondary somatic embryo cultures derived from immature zygotic embryos. Fifty-four transgenic lines, 26 translatable and 28 nontranslatable gene versions, were regenerated, with a transformation efficiency of 2.7%. Inoculation of cloned RO plants with PRSV BR, PRSV HA or PRSV TH, Brazilian, Hawaiian and Thai isolates, respectively, revealed !ines with mono-, double-, and triple-resistance. After molecular analysis and a pre!iminary agronomic evaluation, 13 RI and R2 populations were incorporated into the papaya-breeding program at Embrapa Cassava and Tropical Fruits, in Cruz das Almas, Bahia, Brazil. Desenvolvimento de mamoeiros transgênicos resistentes a vírus expressando o gene da capa protéica de um isolado brasileiro de Papaya ringspot vírus Versões traduzíveis e não traduzíveis do gene da capa protéica (cp) de um isolado de Papaya ringspot virus (PRSV) coletado no Estado da Bahia, Brasil, foram produzidas para expressão nas variedades Sunrise e Sunset Solo de mamoeiro (Carica papaya). O sistema de biobalística foi utilizado para transformar embriões somáticos secundários derivados de embriões zigóticos imaturos. Cinqüenta e quatro linhas transgênicas, sendo 26 contendo versões traduzíveis e 28 contendo versões não traduzíveis do gene cp foram regeneradas, o que resultou em 2,7% de eficiência de transformação, quando considerado o número de linhas transgênicas obtidas por embrião zigótico imaturo excisado. Desafios de plantas RO com PRSV BR, PRSV HA ou PRSV TH, respectivamente isolado brasileiro, havaiano e tailandês, revelaram linhas com resistência a um, dois e três isolados de PRSV. Após análises moleculares e avaliação agronômica preliminar, 13 populações RI e R2 de mamoeiros transgênicos foram incorporadas ao programa de melhoramento genético da Embrapa Mandioca e Fruticultura, em Cruz das Almas, Bahia, Brasil.     Rebound pathway overactivation by cancer cells following discontinuation of PI3K or mTOR inhibition promotes cancer cell growth.

    Whilst effects of anti-cancer drugs have been thoroughly explored, little is known about the repercussion of drug cessation. However, this has important clinical relevance since several clinical protocols such as intermittent drug scheduling lead to frequent drug discontinuation. In this study, we have thus investigated the consequences of withdrawal of agents that target the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway in cancer cells. We report that washout of kinase inhibitors of mTOR or PI3K inhibitors led to a rapid and sustainable overactivation of AKT. Consequently, proliferation of tumor cells was significantly higher following drug washout in cancer cells that were pre-treated with mTOR or PI3K inhibitors compared to untreated cells. This effect was prevented by the addition of an AKT inhibitor following drug washout. Rebound AKT overactivation induced by mTOR or PI3K inhibitors discontinuation was mediated by IGF-1R, as demonstrated by its prevention in the presence of an IGF-1R inhibitor and by increased IGF-1R phosphorylation in treated cells versus control cells. Taken together, our results show that discontinuation of PI3K or mTOR inhibitors results in AKT overactivation that promotes tumor growth. They further highlight the benefit of adding an AKT inhibitor following cessation of PI3K or mTOR inhibitors
