Near-barrier Fusion Induced by Stable Weakly Bound and Exotic Halo Light Nuclei

The effect of breakup is investigated for the medium weight 6^{6}Li+59^{59}Co system in the vicinity of the Coulomb barrier. The strong coupling of breakup/transfer channels to fusion is discussed within a comparison of predictions of the Continuum Discretized Coupled-Channels model which is also applied to 6^{6}He+59^{59}Co a reaction induced by the borromean halo nucleus 6^{6}He.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures. Temperature oscillations of magnetization observed in nanofluid ferromagnetic graphite

We report on unusual magnetic properties observed in the nanofluid room-temperature ferromagnetic graphite (with an average particle size of l=10nm). More precisely, the measured magnetization exhibits a low-temperature anomaly (attributed to manifestation of finite size effects below the quantum temperature) as well as pronounced temperature oscillations above T=50K (attributed to manifestation of the hard-sphere type pair correlations between ferromagnetic particles in the nanofluid)

MODELING OF PARTIAL OXIDATION OF METHANE IN A MEMBRANE REACTOR

    Get PDF
Partial oxidation of methane is one of the most important chemical processes for the production of syngas. In recent years, the abundant availability of natural gas and the increasing demand of hydrogen have led to high interest to further develop this process increasing the yield of syngas. In this work the partial oxidation of methane was studied from a modeling point of view in a membrane reactor and in a conventional reactor. A mathematical model of a membrane reactor used for partial oxidation of methane, assuming steadystate conditions, was developed to simulate and compare the maximum yields and operating conditions in the reactor with that in a conventional reactor. Simulation results show that different parameters affect methane conversion and H /CO ratio, such as temperature, operating conditions, and membrane 2 parameters such as membrane permeance. In a membrane reactor an increase in the operating pressure corresponds to an increase in methane conversion, since allows for a greater partial pressure gradient between the reaction and permeate zone, thus contributing to shift the equilibrium towards the products. As such, the membrane reactors are a good alternative to produce syngas especially for GTL processes. Operating conditions can be set to control the H2/CO ratio to a desired value, and high conversions at mild temperatures can be achieved reducing capital and operational costs

Quadratic Effective Action for QED in D=2,3 Dimensions

    Get PDF
We calculate the effective action for Quantum Electrodynamics (QED) in D=2,3 dimensions at the quadratic approximation in the gauge fields. We analyse the analytic structure of the corresponding nonlocal boson propagators nonperturbatively in k/m. In two dimensions for any nonzero fermion mass, we end up with one massless pole for the gauge boson . We also calculate in D=2 the effective potential between two static charges separated by a distance L and find it to be a linearly increasing function of L in agreement with the bosonized theory (massive Sine-Gordon model). In three dimensions we find nonperturbatively in k/m one massive pole in the effective bosonic action leading to screening. Fitting the numerical results we derive a simple expression for the functional dependence of the boson mass upon the dimensionless parameter e^{2}/m .Comment: 10 pages, 2 figure
