Characteristics of the evolution of pregnancy in obese women were studied for their effect on newborn infants. Two control groups were observed - one of normal weight pregnant women, one of obese. The variables selected were: the socio-economic status of the family and the mother's age, height, arm circunference, prepregancy weight, total number of pregnancies, parity, weight gain during pregnancy, obstetric complications, birth weight, and fetal vitality. Results showed that pregnancy in obese women differs from that in normal weight women and that they show a larger incidence of obstetric complications. Children of obese mothers had a higher mortality rate principally in the perinatal period; moreover, there was also a higher rate of prematurity and a higher proportion of overweight babies among obese mothers. As a result, the distribution of the curve of the birth weight of infants of obese morthers was higher than that of infants of normal weight mothers. The conclusion reached was that whenever a pregnant obese woman reduced foot intake, with resultant insufficient weight gain, intrauterine growth was affected. Thus, it follows that pregnancy is not the best time for the obese mother to lose weight; for this reason, it is important that she receive adequate guidance in regard to diet. Obesity, therefore, is a factor contributing to high-risk pregnancy which can affect both mother and child.

P2p Over Manets: Application And Network Layers' Routing Assessment

    No full text
Both Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANETs) and Peer-to-Peer (P2P) networks are decentralized self-organizing networks with a dynamic topology, used to route queries in a distributed environment. However, whilst MANETs are composed of resource-constrained devices susceptible to faults, P2P networks are popular for their resilience and fault-tolerance. This makes P2P networks the ideal data sharing system for MANETs. This chapter focuses on the integration of these networks. More specifically, the authors evaluate routing strategies of both the network layer and the application layer. Their results indicate that the performance of the protocols depends greatly on the environment and point out the need for new approaches. © 2009, IGI Global.94116Barrett, C.L., Eidenbenz, S.J., Kroc, L., Marathe, M., Smith, J.P., Parametric probabilistic sensor network routing (2003) Proceedings of the 2nd ACM International Conference On Wireless Sensor Networks and ApplicationsBorg, J., (2003) A Comparative Study of Ad Hoc & Peer to Peer Networks, , Unpublished master's thesis, University College London, UKBoukerche, A., Zarrad, A., AraĂșjo, R., Smart gnutella overlay formation for collaborative virtual environments over mobile ad-hoc networks (2006) Proceedings of the IEEE International Symposium On Distributed Simulation and RealTime Applications (DS-RT)Broch, J., Maltz, D.A., Johnson, D.B., Hu, Y.-C., Jetcheva, J., A performance comparison of multi-hop wireless ad hoc network routing protocols (1998) Proceedings of the 4th Annual ACM/IEEE International Conference On Mobile Computing and NetworkingCano, J.-C., Manzoni, P., A performance comparison of energy consumption for mobile ad hoc network routing protocols (2000) Proceedings of the 8 th International Symposium On Modeling, Analysis and Simulation of Computer and Telecommunication Systems (MASCOTS)(2004) The CMU Monarch Projects On Wireless and Mobility Extension to Ns, , CMU Projectda Hora, D.N., Macedo, D.F., Nogueira, J.M.S., Pujolle, G., Optimizing peer-to-peer content discovery over wireless mobile ad hoc networks (2007) Proceedings of the 9 th IFIP/IEEE International Conference On Mobile and Wireless Communications Networks (MWCN)de Couto, D.S.J., Aguayo, D., Bicket, J., Morris, R., A high-throughput path metric for multi-hop wireless routing (2003) Proceedings of the 9th Annual International Conference On Mobile Computing and Networking (MOBICOM)Ding, G., Bhargava, B., Peer-to-peer file-sharing over mobile ad hoc networks (2004) Proceedings of the 2nd IEEE Annual Conference On Pervasive Computing and Communications WorkshopsFall, K., Varadhan, K., (2001) Network Simulator Notes and Documentation, , The VINT ProjectFranciscani, F.P., Vasconcelos, M.A., Couto, R.P., Loureiro, A.A.F., Reconfiguration algorithms for peer-to-peer over ad hoc networks (2005) Journal of Parallel and Distributed Computing, 65 (2), pp. 234-245Gaertner, G., Cahill, V., Understanding link quality in 802.11 mobile ad hoc networks (2004) IEEE Internet Computing, 8 (1), pp. 55-60Gkantsidis, C., Mihail, M., Saberi, A., Random walks in peer-to-peer networks (2004) Proceedings of the IEEE International Conference On Computer Communications (INFOCOM)Hu, Y.C., Das, S.M., Pucha, H., Exploiting the synergy between peer-to-peer and mobile ad hoc networks (2003) Proceedings of the 9th Workshop On Hot Topics In Operating SystemsJohnson, D.B., Maltz, D.A., Dynamic source routing in ad hoc wireless networks (2001) Ad Hoc Networking, , In C. Objetivou-se com este estudo investigar a ocorrĂȘncia de Mycoplasma spp., Mycoplasma galissepticum (MG) e Mycoplasma synoviae (MS) em psitacĂdeos de cativeiro localizado no estado de Pernambuco, Brasil.
