    Get PDF
Today’s professionals work long hours for a variety of reasons and are dominated by increasing work pressures, tough competitors and day to day challenges. Due to this they are getting addicted to work. Addiction to work is a new concept and the effect of work addiction is more severe than the people realize. Keeping this in view, the paper attempts to throw light on the underlying dimensions of work addiction and depicts the consequences of work addiction. The study also suggests some preventive and remedial measures to overcome/reduce the outcomes of this addiction to work

Background: It is clear that deficiencies of some trace elements cause marked alterations in lipid and lipoprotein metabolism. The mechanisms of their effects are not completely obvious and inspite of intense research, the role of these microelements need further elucidation. Thus, the objective of this study is to evaluate the correlations of serum concentrations of trace elements including copper with lipid profile parameters of adult men in Southern Rajasthan. Methods: Present study was conducted in Cardiology and Biochemistry Department in GMCH, Udaipur during the year 2019. A total of 150 MI cases/controls were selected. Blood sample was collected by vein puncture using an aseptic technique. The blood was allowed to settle at 37ºC and then centrifuged at 3000 rpm for 15 min. Serum was then separated and stored at -20ºC until analysis. Results: The study cases had significantly higher lipid values than those of controls (p<0.001). In cases the copper levels are higher than the controls. Copper levels were more in males 95.40±18.93 than in females 86.93±14.54 (p<0.05). Lipid levels were higher in urban population related to rural, TC (238.47 V/s 266.59), TG (219.83 V/s 202.40), HDL (64.39 V/s 54.19) and LDL (131.28 V/s 139.48) (p<0.05). Significant negative correlation was seen in study group between serum copper levels and TC (r=-0.288, p<0.05), TG (r =-0.236, p<0.05), HDL (r=-0.946, p<0.05) and VLDL levels (r=0.102, p<0.05). This indicates that as copper level reduces lipids increases. Conclusions:Our findings indicate the possible effect of Cu level in serum lipid profile and this effect may be due to the role of Cu as an antioxidant. The correlations between the serum concentrations of trace elements with lipid profile in physiological concentrations may not be the same as the changes observed during deficiencies of the trace elements as in hyperlipidemic patients

AYURVEDA: EMERGING BENEFACTION TO PUBLIC HEALTH CARE

The social impact of ill health is on the rise, with some diseases affecting not only the health of individuals but also that of a nations economy with their increasing healthcare costs. The enormous complexity of human body offers scope to conceptualize its dynamic organization in a number of ways such as structural, biochemical, functional, etc. The conventional western medicine views the body from a structural perspective, whereas Ayurveda, the ancient medical system of India, understands the human body from the perspective of functions/Tridoshas (Vata, Pitta and Kapha). Ayurveda is a holistic science and Ayurvedic treatment aims not only at removal of disease, but also at the restoration of the equilibrium of bodily functions. These different viewpoints of Ayurveda and western medicine have resulted not only in the use of different terminologies and metaphors to explain the human system but also in their different approaches to health and illness. In the recent past there has been a growing interest in Ayurvedic system of Medicine and their relevance to public health. In this context, there is a critical need to mainstream Ayurveda into public health care to achieve the objective of improved access to healthcare facilities

Background: Vitamin C's functions as an antioxidant and as an enzyme cofactor are well established, but the ways in which these functions may modify chronic disease risk are less well established. The belief that vitamin C may benefit heart health has stemmed from multiple pieces of evidence and lines of reasoning. Thus, we took the objective of this study to evaluate the correlations of serum concentrations of trace elements including vitamin-C with lipid profile parameters of adult men in Southern Rajasthan. Vitamin C by NATELSON method on colorimeter. Results: The study cases had significantly higher lipid values than those of controls (p<0.001). In cases the vitamin-C levels were significantly low than the controls. There was significant difference in lipid levels among smokers and nonsmokers. When vitamin C levels were compared there was no statistically significant difference in their levels. There was no significant correlation between serum vitamin C levels and Lipids. Conclusions: The physical characteristics such as diet, residence, smokers, non-smokers, showed significant difference in the controls and cases. Women seemed to have higher proportion of lipid abnormality than men. It is concluded from this study that lower levels of ascorbic acid definitely increase the risk of cardiovascular disease and inclusion of ascorbic acid in the normal diet will control the level of lipids

Interactions Between Anti-Epileptic Drugs and Contraceptives: A Review

    Get PDF
Around half of the pregnancies in women with epilepsy are unplanned and the choice of contraceptive method in epileptic women is important, since it requires considering their possible pharmacological interactions with certain types of anti-epileptic drugs. Drugs from this class which induce hepatic enzyme activity may alter the metabolism of most hormonal methods of contraception, and this may affect their contraceptive efficacy. Hormonal contraception is regarded as highly effective, but its interaction with anti-epileptics may accelerate the metabolism of the latter with the consequent risk of failure, reduction of plasma concentration predisposing to seizures, risk of unwanted pregnancies, abortions, teratogenicity, maternal or fetal complications and difficulty in the management of epilepsy during pregnancy. In case of prescribing both medications, the combined use with a barrier method should be considered. Family planning counseling at the first visit has been shown to influence the choice of the contraceptive method. In conclusion, the different therapeutic options should be analyzed together with the epileptic patients in order to achieve and optimize the best goal for each one This article reviews these issues and offers practical recommendations for the management of contraception in epileptic patients

A JADE Implemented Mobile Agent Based Host Platform Security

    Get PDF
Mobile agent paradigm relies heavily on security of both the agent as well as its host platform. Both of the entities are prone to security threats and attacks such as masquerading, denial-of-service and unauthorized access. Security fissures on the platform can result in significant losses. This paper produced a Robust Series Checkpointing Algorithm (SCpA) implemented in JADE environment, which extends our previous work, keeping in mind the security of mobile host platforms. The algorithm is Series Check-pointing in the sense that layers are placed in series one after the other, in the framework, to provide two-level guard system so that if incase, any malevolent agent somehow able to crack the security at first level and unfortunately managed to enter the platform; may be trapped at the next level and hence block the threat. The work also aimed to evaluate the performance of the agents’ execution, through graphical analysis. Our previous work proposed successfully a platform security framework (PSF) to secure host platform from various security threats, but the technical algorithm realization and its implementation was deliberately ignored, which has now been completed.   Keywords: Mobile Agent, Security, Reputation Score, Threshold Value, Check-points, Algorithm

The Pottali rasayana is a unique preparation in Ayurveda as it is very compact in structure and quick acting due to its high potency. Hemgarbha pottali rasa is a medicine which is known as emergency medicine of Ras shastra because of its efficacy and its quick effect in condition like Sannipataj awastha. It is prepared with the combination of Shudha parada, Shudha gandhaka, Shudha tamra bhasma and Shudha swarna. Preparation method of this Hemgarbh pottali ras is unique in the way that it is prepared in molten sulphur which increases its efficacy many folds. Inspite of availability of vast theoretical description in Ayurvedic texts regarding Pottali rasayana, very less research work is carried out on Hemgarbh pottali rasa, so it is mostly out of practice in Ayurvedic community. Hemgarbh pottali rasa is a very potent medicine which should be made popular by Ayurvedic practitioners. In the present article various methods of preparation of Hemgarbh pottali rasa has been described and most common method of preparation which is molten sulphur method is discussed in detail
