An analysis of factors of importance to international postgraduate students from Asia studying in Victorian universities

Student satisfaction is a key strategic variable in maintaining a competitive position in the international education market by Australian universities. The universities are facing the challenge of rising student expectations of quality, service and value for money, and the need to increase the satisfaction level of their students to retain and improve international student numbers. This process requires universities to carefully analyse the key factors contributing to student satisfaction.Using logistic regression analysis with factor scores and aggregated satisfaction scores, this study examines the relative importance of factors and their impact on the satisfaction levels of international postgraduate students from four Asian countries studying at Victorian universities. The study concludes that the dominant factors that impact on student satisfaction include the quality of education, student facilities, reputation of the institutions, the marketability of their degrees for better career prospects, and the overall customer value provided by the universities.<br /

    CONVERTING TO ISLAM

Despite the fact that early Chinese expeditions to this country were led by a Muslim Chinese named Zheng He (Cheng Ho), the overwhelming majority of Chinese Indonesians currently embrace religions other than Islam. This article aims to give a first-hand account of a Chinese woman who converted to Islam and the stereotypical opinion commonly held among Chinese Indonesians, particularly those living in Pontianak, about it. This article also looks at why a conversion to Islam is always seen with a puzzled frown. Keyword: Convert, Islam, Chiness

Salvation is the prime goal of human life. Mitoni in Javanese culture is a tradition to seek for a help for mother and her child in her 7th month pregnancy to give birth safely. Catholic Church proclaims salvation for all people also through some rites. Naturally those rites offered by the Catholic Church shall have relevance to people rooted in their culture. It is important that there is an harmonious encounter between culture and those rites as well as a liturgy that reflects mutual understanding and complementarity between Christian faith and culture, especially through inculturation. That encounter seeks to find a new meaning of life enlightened by faith. In the tradition of Mitoni this shall occur through its ritual of siraman and liturgy that accompanies. New meaning points to an experience of salvation in different form and content rooted in a culture. How far an inculturation could help facilitate

Berdasarkan latar belakang itulah peneliti melaksanakan penelitian tentang Korelasi Besaran Lingkar Lengan Terhadap Frekuensi Pukulan lurus Petinju Amatir Sasana Adi Swandan Panjer Denpasar Tahun Pelajaran 2015/2016. Berdasarkan persentase Koefesien Penentu Pengaruh Korelasi Besaran Lingkar Terhadap Frekuensi Pukulan Lurus (jab straight) petinju amatir pada Sasana Adi Swandana Panjer Denpasar tahun 2015/2016 sebesar 59,1%, sisanya lagi 40,9% penyebab faktor lain.

Review: Ocular Complications of Mosquito-Transmitted Diseases

    Get PDF
The World Health Organization estimates that 1 billion cases of infectious disease originate from vector transmission, resulting in several million deaths annually. Mosquitos are the primary vector for multiple diseases in humans that cause self-limiting to sight-threatening ocular complications and significant systemic illness. The 2015-2016 outbreak of the mosquito-borne Zika virus in North and South America brought to the forefront how quickly mosquitoes can spread disease between continents, especially among vulnerable patient populations. Optometrists should be familiar with the associated ocular complications in order to effectively diagnose, co-manage, treat, and educate patients who have been infected by mosquito-borne disease. This paper reviews the ocular manifestations of mosquito-transmitted diseases including Zika virus, West Nile virus, Malaria, Dengue fever, Chikungunya, and Dirofilaria

The relevance of demographic variables in assessing student satisfaction: a study of international postgraduate students

Servicing an increasingly diverse international student community in the globally competitive education market is a challenge faced by Australian universities. Market forecasts indicate a seven-fold increase in the number of students seeking higher education overseas by 2025 (Bohm et al, 2002) and with the growing diversity and competitiveness of the industry, universities will need to focus on factors influencing student satisfaction to improve service quality where required. This paper, using logistic regression, ANOVA, and MANOVA, investigates the influence of country, age and gender with regard to satisfaction among international postgraduate students from four Asian countries studying in universities in Victoria. The results indicate that there is an inverse relationship between age and satisfaction among postgraduate students while the gender of the students does not have an impact on satisfaction, and that significant differences are evident between the four countries investigated with respect to the levels of satisfaction.<br /

A modified Schwinger's formula for the Casimir effect

After briefly reviewing how the (proper-time) Schwinger's formula works for computing the Casimir energy in the case of "scalar electrodynamics" where the boundary conditions are dictated by two perfectly conducting parallel plates with separation "a" in the Z-axis, we propose a slightly modification in the previous approach based on an analytical continuation method. As we will see, for the case at hand our formula does not need the use of Poisson summation to get a (renormalized) finite result.Comment: 6 pages, DFTUZ/93/14 (a short version will appear in the Letters in Math.
