On Nichols algebras over SL(2,Fq) and GL(2,Fq)

We compute necessary conditions on Yetter-Drinfeld modules over the groups SL(2,Fq) and GL(2,Fq) to generate finite dimensional Nichols algebras. This is a first step towards a classification of pointed Hopf algebras with a group of group-likes isomorphic to one of these groups.Comment: Major exposition revision, including referees remarks. To appear in J. Math. Phys. 13 page

On Nichols algebras over PGL(2,q) and PSL(2,q)

We compute necessary conditions on Yetter-Drinfeld modules over the groups \mathbf{PGL}(2,q)=\mathbf{PGL}(2,\FF_q) and \mathbf{PSL}(2,q)=\mathbf{PSL}(2,\FF_q) to generate finite dimensional Nichols algebras. This is a first step towards a classification of pointed Hopf algebras with group of group-likes isomorphic to one of these groups. As a by-product of the techniques developed in this work, we prove that there is no non-trivial finite-dimensional pointed Hopf algebra over the Mathieu groups M20M_{20} and M21=PSL(3,4)M_{21}=\mathbf{PSL}(3,4).Comment: Minor change

    Cancer and mitochondrial function

Metabolism alterations are associated with the loss of mitochondrial function in tumor cells. Current research discuss whether such loss is evident in function itself, or if cells can provide maximum stability to its functions. More studies are needed to determine the behavior of cancer in mitochondria. Tumor cells experience a limitation of oxygen and mutations in oncogenes, tumor suppressor genes and enzymes of the glycolytic pathway and/or mitochondrial oxidative metabolism, thus allowing the formation of aggressive cancer. This article is the result of a literature review of the scientific evidence that has been presented in the latest research on cancer and mitochondrial function

The role of VEGF in Physiological and tumoral angiogénesis Abstract Angiogenesis, the cellular process leading to the development of new blood vessels from an existing vascular network, requires activation of surface receptors of normal endothelial cells by signaling molecules such as the Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF). During physiological processes of angiogenesis leading to injury repair, an increase of vascular permeability favors deposits of plasma proteins in the extracellular matrix. However, in pathological processes such as cancer, angiogenesis plays an important role in the growth and proliferation of the tumor cells. The activation of angiogenesis in a tumor induces, but does not guarantee, tumor expansion; hence, the absence of angiogenesis may limit the tumor growth. Angiogenesis inhibitors been developed to interfere with different stages of the process. For example, bevacizumab (Avastin) is recognized as a monoclonal antibody binds specifically to VEGF and inhibits its angiogenic function

Santos e devotos no império ultramarino português

O artigo dialoga com a historiografia centrada na noção de Império e com uma bibliografia da História e das Ciências Sociais voltada para a relação santodevoto, a santidade e as festas.<br>The paper produces a story of vilancicos for Saint Gonçalo do Amarante, that are part of the Rio de Janeiro National Library Barbosa Machado Collection and presents reflections on the relation saint-devotees in the Portuguese Overseas Empire during the 18th century. The vilancicos are identified as a rhetoric poetic genre that reminds the saint and a religious practice that contrasted with others. It starts from a comparative perspective between the vilancicos and other evidences about the relation saint-devotee, and in particular, about the saint and his feast in a colonial and proslavery society. The article deals with the historiography centered in the notion of Empire, and with a bibliography of History and Social Sciences pointed to the relation saint-devotee, the holiness and the feasts
