Several factors have been found to account for the use of vocabulary learning strategies (VLS). However, few studies have been conducted on the patterns of VLS used by Jordanian students and the factors that might affect such use. This study investigates the patterns of vocabulary learning strategies (VLSs) used by students at Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST)in relation to their gender, language proficiency, academic major, and previous vocabulary learning strategies instruction. The participants of this study were 738 undergraduate students from 3 faculties: Medicine, Engineering, and Agriculture at JUST. The research instruments were a strategy questionnaire adopted from Schmitt‘s (1997) taxonomy for vocabulary learning, and semi-structured interviews. The findings indicated that Jordanian university students used a medium range of strategies. Determination strategies were the most preferred strategies whereas cognitive strategies were the least frequently used strategies. Language proficiency and previous VLSs instruction had significant influences on the overall strategy use, while gender and academic major did not affect the overall strategy use of EFL Jordanian university students. In addition, the present study examines the relationship between metacognitive strategies instruction and vocabulary learning of JUST students through a 10 week training program. Tests based on Nation‘s multiple-choice test of vocabulary knowledge (1990) were used in this study. A total of 60 students participated in the experiment; one class of 30 which received metacognitive strategies instruction formed the experimental group; the other class of 30 students which received normal training comprised the control group. The results indicated that the experimental group surpassed the control group in the post-training vocabulary test. The findings of this study provide some pedagogical implications for English teachers and curriculum designers which could be beneficial to understand the VLSs currently employed by Jordanian university students

Because of the hazards of radon activity and its daughter products to human health, several studies were conducted to measure radiation in environment including soil and building materials. Alpha particles radiation contents of soil samples were measured using solid state nuclear track detector (SSNTD) CR-39. Soil samples were collected from the middle region of Gaza-Strip, in Nusirate area. Alpha activity per unit volume were evaluated in the sample using solid state nuclear track detector. Results showed that the activity of Alpha particles in soil has a maximum value 9.305 Bq/m3, and minimum 2.878 Bq/m3, and average is 5.244 Bq/m3. Also results using Electra Plus were discussed and compared with other published data

AbstractBackgroundRepairing the tricuspid valve in patients undergoing left heart valve surgery is still controversial. Severe Tricuspid regurge is repaired by most surgeons, while moderate regurge is frequently unaddressed. Another controversy is the technique of repair. DeVega technique is widely used; still, the longevity of this repair is still questioned. The risk of its early failure and subsequent recurrence of significant regurge requiring redo surgery has led many surgeons to adopt the use of annuloplasty rings. The aim of our study was to assess the short term results (1 year) of tricuspid repair with or without ring annuloplasty.Patients and methods80 patients who had tricuspid repair concomitantly with mitral valve surgery at Cairo University Hospitals over 5 years were studied by echocardiography at discharge and at 1 year after surgery.Results62 patients had repair using the DeVega annuloplasty (group A) while 18 had ring annuloplasty (group B). The mean age was 33 ± 6 years and 37 ± 8 years for group A and B respectively. The cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) time was relatively longer in group B. There was only one mortality in group A. Echocardiography done for all patients of both groups at discharge and at 1 year postoperatively showed no significant difference between both groups.ConclusionTricuspid repair using ring annuloplasty has good results but with no significant benefits over DeVega annuloplasty at one year

The prevalence of anemia among pregnant women, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), is still higher than 51% in developing countries, and the most common cause is iron deficiency, which has adverse effects on maternal and child health. The purpose of this study is to determine the knowledge and attitude of pregnant women attending the University Hospital in Mukalla regarding iron deficiency anemia and its impact. A cross sectional descriptive study was conducted on 320 Yemeni pregnant women from January 1, 2021, to June 30, 2021. Data was collected by a predesigned self-administered questionnaire in the antenatal clinic at the time of the routine antenatal check-up. The results showed that the mean age of participants was 26.8 ±1.73 years. The prevalence of iron deficiency anemia was high (81%). (23.4%) of the participants know that anemia in pregnancy is present when the hemoglobin concentration is 11 g/dl or less. Most of the participants (72.2%) know that anemia may affect the health of the fetus and cause complications for the mothers. Only (16.6%) of them know that iron tablets are free of cost in primary health care centers and government hospitals. (85.3%) of them know that iron tablets should be taken during pregnancy in spite of a healthy diet. (23.1%) of the participants took iron supplementation irregularly due to drug cost (32.8%). Only (20%) of them get information regarding anemia from health workers. Anemia was statistically lower in pregnant women with regular intake of iron supplements and those taking special diets during pregnancy. The prevalence of anemia in women who attend University hospitals during pregnancy is higher. There is poor knowledge among participants about the preventive measures for iron deficiency anemia. Improving health education about anemia during pregnancy can reduce the prevalence of anemia and improve maternal and fetal outcomes

Knowledge management plays an important role in educational institutions as it can improve the educational process and its management. Given this importance, this research aims to measure the application of knowledge management in the Palestine High School in Jamoum Governorate. This research measures the level of knowledge management in terms of knowledge culture and the four-knowledge management: acquisition, distribution, storage, and application. This research follows the methodology of descriptive research and case study, and the questionnaire was adopted as the study instrument. The research sample consisted of 41 employees in Palestine High School. After distributing the questionnaire and analyzing its results, we reached the following results: The level of knowledge management application is generally considered high. The level of knowledge culture, its acquisition, distribution, and application was also high. While the level of knowledge storage application got an average rate, which means that there is a weakness in this aspect of knowledge management. Through this research, we recommend the development of technical programs to store knowledge and provide access to it at any time. In addition to increasing seminars and courses, and incentives to participate in the acquisition and spread of knowledge

Radon Alpha particles and its daughter products dangers effect to human health is the main motivation behind several studies of measuring radiation in environment including the soil and building material. We measured the activity of Alpha, Beta particles and Gamma Radiation in soil in the middle of Gaza Strip in general form by using five types of detectors. In our survey the middle region of Gaza Strip was divided into four areas, , included Dier El Balah (D), Mughazi (M), Buriej (B) and Nusairat (N), 40 samples where considered in the present work . The samples then were tested and the results presented in this paper. The comparison between the four regions was obtained and showed low radiation level compared with the standard level known by the IAEA and UNCEAR report (U3, U6)[3,7]. This study was conducted to provide us with measurements and extrapolations about radiation concentration in general form in soil. This would enable us to expect the health effects of radiation might cause in the future, especially from the environmental point of view
