These results are discussed in terms of the adsorption of the Poloxamer to the particle surface and the implications for drug targeting
Preschool hearing, speech, language, and vision screening
Child health surveillance is part of a broad set of activities, the objective of which is to reduce childhood disability by identifying and managing a multiplicity of conditions at an early stage.1 This includes several screening programmes which are focused on the detection of specific disorders. The value of surveillance and monitoring of child health, growth, and development used to be regarded as self evident. The Hall reports emphasised the importance of applying rigorous criteria for screening programmes in community child health and helped to produce a more coordinated national programme.2–4 However, there is still considerable variation both within and between health authorities in the content, timing, and delivery of child health surveillance. This paper summarises the research evidence presented in a recent issue of the Effective Health Care bulletin, Vol 4, No 2; April, 1998 about hearing, speech and language, and vision screening and is based on recent systematic reviews commissioned by the National Health Service (NHS) Health Technology Assessment Programme. Dark Energy and Extending the Geodesic Equations of Motion: Connecting the Galactic and Cosmological Length Scales
Recently, an extension of the geodesic equations of motion using the Dark
Energy length scale was proposed. Here, we apply this extension to the
analyzing the motion of test particles at the galactic scale and longer. A
cosmological check of the extension is made using the observed rotational
velocity curves and core sizes of 1393 spiral galaxies. We derive the density
profile of a model galaxy using this extension, and with it, we calculate
to be ; this is within experimental error of the
WMAP value of . We then calculate to be

On String Theory Duals of Lifshitz-like Fixed Points
We present type IIB supergravity solutions which are expected to be dual to
certain Lifshitz-like fixed points with anisotropic scale invariance. They are
expected to describe a class of D3-D7 systems and their finite temperature
generalizations are straightforward. We show that there exist solutions that
interpolate between these anisotropic solutions in the IR and the standard AdS5
solutions in the UV. This predicts anisotropic RG flows from familiar isotropic
fixed points to anisotropic ones. In our case, these RG flows are triggered by
a non-zero theta-angle in Yang-Mills theories that linearly depends on one of
the spatial coordinates. We study the perturbations around these backgrounds
and discuss the possibility of instability. We also holographically compute
their thermal entropies, viscosities, and entanglement entropies.Comment: 47 pages, 4 figure
Black hole collision with a scalar particle in four, five and seven dimensional anti-de Sitter spacetimes: ringing and radiation
In this work we compute the spectra, waveforms and total scalar energy
radiated during the radial infall of a small test particle coupled to a scalar
field into a -dimensional Schwarzschild-anti-de Sitter black hole. We focus
on and 7, extending the analysis we have done for . For small
black holes, the spectra peaks strongly at a frequency , which
is the lowest pure anti-de Sitter (AdS) mode. The waveform vanishes
exponentially as , and this exponential decay is governed
entirely by the lowest quasinormal frequency. This collision process is
interesting from the point of view of the dynamics itself in relation to the
possibility of manufacturing black holes at LHC within the brane world
scenario, and from the point of view of the AdS/CFT conjecture, since the
scalar field can represent the string theory dilaton, and 4, 5, 7 are

Cytonuclear discordance in the Florida Everglades invasive Burmese python (Python bivittatus) population reveals possible hybridization with the Indian python (P. molurus)
The invasive Burmese python (Python bivittatus) has been reproducing in the Florida Everglades since the 1980s. These giant constrictor snakes have caused a precipitous decline in small mammal populations in southern Florida following escapes or releases from the commercial pet trade. To better understand the invasion pathway and genetic composition of the population, two mitochondrial (mtDNA) loci across 1,398 base pairs were sequenced on 426 snakes and 22 microsatellites were assessed on 389 snakes. Concatenated mtDNA sequences produced six haplotypes with an average nucleotide and haplotype diversity of π = 0.002 and h = 0.097, respectively. Samples collected in Florida from morphologically identified P. bivittatus snakes were similar to published cytochrome oxidase 1 and cytochrome b sequences from both P. bivittatus and Python molurus and were highly divergent (genetic distances of 5.4% and 4.3%, respectively). The average number of microsatellite alleles and expected heterozygosity were NA = 5.50 and HE = 0.60, respectively. Nuclear Bayesian assignment tests supported two genetically distinct groups and an admixed group, not geographically differentiated. The effective population size (NE = 315.1) was lower than expected for a population this large, but reflected the low genetic diversity overall. The patterns of genetic diversity between mtDNA and microsatellites were disparate, indicating nuclear introgression of separate mtDNA lineages corresponding to cytonuclear discordance. The introgression likely occurred prior to the invasion, but genetic information on the native range and commercial trade is needed for verification. Our finding that the Florida python population is comprised of distinct lineages suggests greater standing variation for adaptation and the potential for broader areas of suitable habitat in the invaded range
Torsion and the Gravity Dual of Parity Symmetry Breaking in AdS4/CFT3 Holography
We study four dimensional gravity with a negative cosmological constant
deformed by the Nieh-Yan torsional topological invariant with a
spacetime-dependent coefficient. We find an exact solution of the Euclidean
system, which we call the torsion vortex, having two asymptotic AdS4 regimes
supported by a pseudoscalar with a kink profile. We propose that the torsion
vortex is the holographic dual of a three dimensional system that exhibits
distinct parity breaking vacua. The torsion vortex represents a (holographic)
transition between these distinct vacua. We expect that from the boundary point
of view, the torsion vortex represents a `domain wall' between the two distinct
vacua.
From a bulk point of view, we point out an intriguing identification of the
parameters of the torsion vortex with those of an Abrikosov vortex in a Type I
superconductor. Following the analogy, we find that external Kalb-Ramond flux
then appears to support bubbles of flat spacetime within an asymptotically AdS

Drainage flow over complex terrain
Model calculations even carried in order to simulate tracer release experiments at the Geysers Area. Comparisons with the experimental data provide a test of current ability to model pollutant transport. The calculations were carried out with a windfield code (ATMOS1) and an advection-diffusion code (ATMOS2). The resulting concentrations permit prediction of tracer particle collections at the measurement stations. Comparison of the observations and predictions of sequential and integrated counts shows generally good agreement, but with discrepancies in some instances. The method appears to be a useful one for pollutant transport predictions and for parametric studies
