Isospin Fluctuations from a Thermally Equilibrated Hadron Gas
Partition functions, multiplicity distributions, and isospin fluctuations are
calculated for canonical ensembles in which additive quantum numbers as well as
total isospin are strictly conserved. When properly accounting for
Bose-Einstein symmetrization, the multiplicity distributions of neutral pions
in a pion gas are significantly broader as compared to the non-degenerate case.
Inclusion of resonances compensates for this broadening effect. Recursion
relations are derived which allow calculation of exact results with modest

Agricultural development prospects in Belize (NRI Bulletin 48)
This report is one ofthree documents completing the land resource assessment of Belize undertaken by the Natural Resources Institute (NRI)from 1986-90. The other documents are: (i) a revised national soil classification (Baillie et al., 1993) (ii) an update on 'Land in British Honduras' (Wright et al., 1959), which will present inter alia much of the NRI land resource assessment findings in a more easily readable format (Wright et al., 1993). The aim of this report is to assess the entire··agricultural resources of the country, present an assessment of how they can be used to best effect, both in the short(economically) and long terms (by protecting the environment), and present a 1:500 000 scale map indicating the preferred use for each part of the country (Map 1 ). Map 1 does not take into account current ownership, except in the case of Programme for Belize, where it is assumed that organization will continue to manage the Rio Bravo Conservation Management Area. This report also includes advice on how a Geographical Information System (GIS) can be used to update the NRI surveys and provide additional data so that the suitability of new crops and the effect of changed economic circumstances can be determined from the land resource assessment database
The Quark-Gluon Plasma in a Finite Volume
The statistical mechanics of quarks and gluons are investigated within the
context of the canonical ensemble. Recursive techniques are developed which
enforce the exact conservation of baryon number, total isospin, electric
charge, strangeness, and color. Bose and Fermi-Dirac statistics are also
accounted for to all orders. The energy, entropy and particle number densities
are shown to be significantly reduced for volumes less than 5 cubic fm.Comment: 8 pages, 3 figure

Sandia`s network for supercomputing `95: Validating the progress of Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) switching
The Advanced Networking Integration Department at Sandia National Laboratories has used the annual Supercomputing conference sponsored by the IEEE and ACM for the past three years as a forum to demonstrate and focus communication and networking developments. For Supercomputing `95, Sandia elected: to demonstrate the functionality and capability of an AT&T Globeview 20Gbps Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) switch, which represents the core of Sandia`s corporate network, to build and utilize a three node 622 megabit per second Paragon network, and to extend the DOD`s ACTS ATM Internet from Sandia, New Mexico to the conference`s show floor in San Diego, California, for video demonstrations. This paper documents those accomplishments, discusses the details of their implementation, and describes how these demonstrations supports Sandia`s overall strategies in ATM networking

Land resource assessment of Northern Belize (NRI Bulletin 43, Volume 2 of 2)
The land resource assessment was undertaken from July 1989 to June 1990 by the Natural Resources Institute (NRI) of the Overseas Development Administration (ODA), assisted by Mr. A. C. S. Wright, and Dr. M. Holder of Central Farm. The main object of the survey was to produce an updated land suitability assessment of Orange Walk, Corozal, Belize and Cayo districts which had not already been surveyed by Jenkin et al. (1976) and King et al. (1989). In addition, this survey would provide a land suitability assessment for the Belize Valley based on the soil mapping of )en kin et al. Thus, together with the land resource assessments of Toledo and Stann Creek districts (King et al., 1986, 1989 respectively), a land suitability assessment for the whole of Belize is now available

Thermal Recombination: Beyond the Valence Quark Approximation
Quark counting rules derived from recombination models agree well with data
on hadron production at intermediate transverse momenta in relativistic
heavy-ion collisions. They convey a simple picture of hadrons consisting only
of valence quarks. We discuss the inclusion of higher Fock states that add sea
quarks and gluons to the hadron structure. We show that, when recombination
occurs from a thermal medium, hadron spectra remain unaffected by the inclusion
of higher Fock states. However, the quark number scaling for elliptic flow is
somewhat affected. We discuss the implications for our understanding of data
from the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figure
Nonlinear Stress Fluctuation Dynamics of Sheared Disordered Wet Foam
Sheared wet foam, which stores elastic energy in bubble deformations, relaxes
stress through bubble rearrangements. The intermittency of bubble
rearrangements in foam leads to effectively stochastic drops in stress that are
followed by periods of elastic increase. We investigate global characteristics
of highly disordered foams over three decades of strain rate and almost two
decades of system size. We characterize the behavior using a range of measures:
average stress, distribution of stress drops, rate of stress drops, and a
normalized fluctuation intensity. There is essentially no dependence on system
size. As a function of strain rate, there is a change in behavior around shear

Hadronic freeze-out following a first order hadronization phase transition in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions
We analyze the hadronic freeze-out in ultra-relativistic heavy ion collisions
at RHIC in a transport approach which combines hydrodynamics for the early,
dense, deconfined stage of the reaction with a microscopic non-equilibrium
model for the later hadronic stage at which the hydrodynamic equilibrium
assumptions are not valid. With this ansatz we are able to self-consistently
calculate the freeze-out of the system and determine space-time hypersurfaces
for individual hadron species. The space-time domains of the freeze-out for
several hadron species are found to be actually four-dimensional, and differ
drastically for the individual hadrons species. Freeze-out radii distributions
are similar in width for most hadron species, even though the Omega-baryon is
found to be emitted rather close to the phase boundary and shows the smallest
freeze-out radii and times among all baryon species. The total lifetime of the
system does not change by more than 10% when going from SPS to RHIC energies.Comment: 11 pages, 4 eps-figures included, revised versio
