Radion Flavor Violation in Warped Extra Dimension
We analyze the flavor violation in warped extra dimension due to radion
mediation. We show that \Delta S=2 and \Delta B=2 flavor violating processes
impose stringent constraints on radion mass, m_\phi and the scale \Lambda_\phi.
In particular, for \Lambda_\phi ~ O(1) TeV, B_d^0-\bar{B}^0_d implies that
m_\phi ~ 65 GeV. We also study radion contributions to lepton flavor violating
processes: \tau -> (e,\mu) \phi, \tau -> e\mu^+\mu^- and B -> l_i l_j. We show
that BR(B_s -> \mu^+ \mu^-) can be of order 10^{-8}, which is reachable at the
LHCb. The radion search at LHC, through the flavor violation decays into \tau
\mu or top-charm quarks, is also considered.Comment: 23 pages, 9 figure
Ups and Downs in Finance, Ups without Downs in Inequality
The upswing in finance over the past several decades has led to rising inequality, but do downswings in finance lead to a symmetric decline in inequality? In this paper, we analyze the asymmetry of the effect of ups and downs in financial markets, as well as the effect of increased capital requirements and the bonus cap on national earnings in- equality. We use administrative employer–employee linked data on earnings from 1990 to 2017 for twelve countries. Additionally, we use data on earnings from bank reports, from 2009 to 2017 in thirteen European countries. We find a strong asymmetry in the effects of financial ups and downs on earnings inequality, a mitigating effect of rising capital requirements on the contribution of finance to inequality, and a restructuring ef- fect of the bonus cap for the earnings of financiers, while neither policy affects absolute levels of earnings inequality.La hausse de la finance au cours des dernières décennies a entraîné une hausse des inégalités, mais les ralentissements de la finance entraînent-ils une baisse symétrique des inégalités? Dans cet article, nous examinons l'asymétrie de l'effet des hausses et des ralentissements des marchés financiers, ainsi que l'effet de l'augmentation des exi- gences en matière de capital et du plafonnement des primes sur l'inégalité des salaires nationaux. Molecular Separation by Using Active and Passive Microfluidic chip Designs: A Comprehensive Review
Separation and identification of molecules and biomolecules such as nucleic acids, proteins, and polysaccharides from complex fluids are known to be important due to unmet needs in various applications. Generally, many different separation techniques, including chromatography, electrophoresis, and magnetophoresis, have been developed to identify the target molecules precisely. However, these techniques are expensive and time consuming. “Lab-on-a-chip” systems with low cost per device, quick analysis capabilities, and minimal sample consumption seem to be ideal candidates for separating particles, cells, blood samples, and molecules. From this perspective, different microfluidic-based techniques have been extensively developed in the past two decades to separate samples with different origins. In this review, “lab-on-a-chip” methods by passive, active, and hybrid approaches for the separation of biomolecules developed in the past decade are comprehensively discussed. Due to the wide variety in the field, it will be impossible to cover every facet of the subject. Therefore, this review paper covers passive and active methods generally used for biomolecule separation. Then, an investigation of the combined sophisticated methods is highlighted. The spotlight also will be shined on the elegance of separation successes in recent years, and the remainder of the article explores how these permit the development of novel techniques
The Great Separation: Top Earner Segregation at Work in High-Income Countries
Analyzing linked employer-employee panel administrative databases, we study the evolving isolation of higher earners from other employees in eleven countries: Canada, Czechia, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Japan, Norway, Spain, South Korea, and Sweden. We find in almost all countries a growing workplace isolation of top earners and dramatically declining exposure of top earners to bottom earners. We compare these trends to segregation based on occupational class, education, age, gender, and nativity, finding that the rise in top earner isolation is much more dramatic and general across countries. We find that residential segregation is also growing, although more slowly than segregation at work, with top earners and bottom earners increasingly living in different distinct municipalities. While work and residential segregation are correlated, statistical modeling suggests that the primary causal effect is from work to residential segregation. These findings open up a future research program on the causes and consequences of top earner segregation.En nous appuyant sur des données administratives longitudinales employeur–employés, nous analysons l’évolution de la ségrégation sociale des salariés à hauts salaires dans onze pays: Allemagne, Canada, Corée du Sud, Danemark, Espagne, France, Hongrie, Japon, Norvège, République tchèque et Suède. Nous constatons dans presque tous les pays une forte augmentation de l’entre soi des salariés bien payés sur le lieu de travail et une diminution spectaculaire de leur exposition aux bas salaires. Nous comparons ces tendances à l’évolution de la ségrégation fondée sur la catégorie sociale, l’éducation, l’âge, le sexe et le statut migratoire, et nous constatons que l’augmentation de l’entre soi des hauts salaires est celle qui est la plus prononcée et la plus générale. Nous montrons que la ségrégation résidentielle se développe aussi, bien que plus lentement que la ségrégation au travail, avec les hauts et les bas salaires vivant de plus en plus dans des municipalités distinctes. Ségrégation au travail et ségrégation résidentielle sont corrélées. Mais nos modèles statistiques suggèrent aussi que la principale relation de causalité va de la ségrégation au travail vers la ségrégation résidentielle. BACKGROUND Vacuum evaporation (VE) process is widely utilized in fruit juice evaporation to preserve quality attributes of final product. However, it has some disadvantages such as possible degradation of aroma components or volatile fatty acids due to long process time, and low energy efficiency of process. Pomegranate juice having 17.5% total soluble solid (TSS) content was evaporated to 40% TSS by ohmic heating assisted vacuum evaporation (OVE; 7.5, 10 and 12.5 V cm(-1)) and VE in the present study. The effects of the evaporation methods on pH, titratable acidity and colour values, antioxidant activity (AA), total monomeric anthocyanin (TMA), total phenolic content (TPC), hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) and invert sugar content of pomegranate juice concentrates were compared. RESULTS The colour properties, TMA, TPC and AA values of pomegranate juice concentrates evaporated by OVE were more influenced than those evaporated by VE. The degradation of sugars was minimized for OVE processes at high voltage gradients (10 and 12.5 V cm(-1)), and HMF content of pomegranate juice concentrated by OVE was lower than VE. CONCLUSION It is thought that electrochemical reactions occurred because of the use of titanium electrodes during the OVE process caused these quality changes in pomegranate juice concentrates having high acidity. Hence, it was concluded that the utilization of relatively more electrochemically inert electrodes should be investigated in further studies to better evaluate the of influence of OVE method on quality attributes of different fruit juices. Lateral and medial tibial plateau angles in normal dogs An osteological study

Kamil/0000-0001-7723-5586WOS: 000333435600010PubMed: 24317701Objectives: To measure lateral and medial tibial plateau angle values in isolated canine tibiae and to compare lateral and medial tibial plateau angle values between dogs based on sex and breed. Methods: Tibiae of 90 dogs from 24 different breeds were used. Photographs were taken of the medial and lateral aspects of the tibiae for measurement of the medial and lateral tibial plateau angles. Additionally, the medial tibial plateau angle was measured from radiographs of the tibiae. Two-way analysis of variance was used to test the effects of side, sex and breed on the medial and lateral tibial plateau angles as measured from photographs as well as the medial tibial plateal angles as measured from radiographs. The photographic and radiographic medial tibial plateau angles were compared by paired t-test, whereas the medial and lateral photographic tibial plateau angles were compared by t-test. Results: When all dogs were included in the analysis, the difference between the mean medial tibial plateau angle (24.0 +/- 3.19 degrees) and the mean lateral tibial plateau angle (25.5 +/- 3.84 degrees) as measured from photographs was significant (p < 0.05). The difference in the photographic medial tibial plateau angle between male and female dogs was significant (p < 0.05), whereas the difference in the photographic lateral tibial plateau angle between sexes was not significant. There was a significant difference between the medial and lateral tibial plateau angles as measured from photographs in male dogs (p < 0.05) but not in female dogs. Breed comparisons also showed significant differences for the photographic lateral tibial plateau angle (p < 0.05). Clinical significance: The axial rotation of the femoral condyles on the tibial plateau is probably affected by the discrepancy between the medial and lateral tibial plateau angles, and this difference in certain breeds might influence the prevalence of cranial cruciate ligament disease
Effect of anatomic variation in caudal tibial plateau on the tibial plateau angle in dogs: a cadaveric study

Kamil/0000-0001-7723-5586WOS: 000325259800006PubMed: 24003987Objectives: To determine the effect of using two different landmarks to identify the caudal point on the joint orientation line in the sagittal plane in tibial plateau angle measurement in dogs: the caudal margin of the medial condyle as the anatomic tibial plateau angle and the tibial insertion of the caudal cruciate ligament as the conventional tibial plateau angle. Methods: A total of 170 tibiae from 85 mid- and large-breed dogs were used. The two joint orientation lines were drawn on photographic images of the bones. The angles between the line perpendicular to the tibial axis and the two lines were then measured as the anatomic and conventional tibial plateau angle. Results: The mean conventional tibial plateau angle (25.2+/- 2.60 degrees) and anatomic tibial plateau angle (23.5 +/- 2.59 degrees) differed significantly (P<0.001), and the degree of this difference varied significantly among seven breeds (P<0.01). Clinical Significance: The results of this study suggest that the locations of the caudal margin of the medial condyle and the tibial insertion of the caudal cruciate ligament differed, leading to inconsistent identification of the joint orientation line depending on the landmark used
Comparison of goniometric measurements of the stifle joint in seven breeds of normal dogs

Kamil/0000-0001-7723-5586WOS: 000376552800008PubMed: 26898480Objective: To compare the goniometric measurements of the stifle joint in seven dog breeds, and to determine the relationship among goniometric measurements, age, body weight, tibial plateau angle, crus and thigh circumferences, and widths of quadriceps, hamstring, and gastrocnemius muscles in healthy dogs. Methods: We used a total of 126 dogs from seven different breeds, and recorded the angle of the stifle joint at standing, extension, and flexion together with the range of motion (ROM). The circumferences of the thigh and crus were also measured. Mediolateral radiographic projections of the tibia and the femur were obtained from the dogs, and the tibial plateau angles, as well as the widths of quadriceps, hamstring, and gastrocnemius muscles, were measured from these images. Results: Neither the sex of the dog nor the differences in the side measured affected the goniometric measurements of the stifle joint. The standing, extension, flexion, and ROM angles were different among the breeds. The standard deviations of the standing and extension angles were small relative to their means, but the standard deviations of the flexion angle were large relative to their means in all breeds. Body weight and muscular measurements were the most influential factors on the stifle flexion angle and ROM.
