On Time-dependent Collapsing Branes and Fuzzy Odd-dimensional Spheres
We study the time-dependent dynamics of a collection of N
collapsing/expanding D0-branes in type IIA String Theory. We show that the
fuzzy-S^3 and S^5 provide time-dependent solutions to the Matrix Model of
D0-branes and its DBI generalisation. Some intriguing cancellations in the
calculation of the non-abelian DBI Matrix actions result in the fuzzy-S^3 and
S^5 having the same dynamics at large-N. For the Matrix model, we find analytic
solutions describing the time-dependent radius, in terms of Jacobi elliptic
functions. Investigation of the physical properties of these configurations
shows that there are no bounces for the trajectory of the collapse at large-N.
We also write down a set of useful identities for fuzzy-S^3, fuzzy-S^5 and

Complex Wave Numbers in the Vicinity of the Schwarzschild Event Horizon
This paper is devoted to investigate the cold plasma wave properties outside
the event horizon of the Schwarzschild planar analogue. The dispersion
relations are obtained from the corresponding Fourier analyzed equations for
non-rotating and rotating, non-magnetized and magnetized backgrounds. These
dispersion relations provide complex wave numbers. The wave numbers are shown
in graphs to discuss the nature and behavior of waves and the properties of
plasma lying in the vicinity of the Schwarzschild event horizon.Comment: 21 pages, 9 figures, accepted for publication Int. J. Mod. Phys.
Re-appearance of the pairing correlations at finite temperature
Rotational and deformation dependence of isovector and isoscalar pairing
correlations at finite temperature are studied in an exactly solvable cranked
deformed shell model Hamiltonian. It is shown that isovector pairing
correlations, as expected, decrease with increasing deformation and the
isoscalar pairing correlations remain constant at temperature, T=0. However, it
is observed that at finite temperature both isovector and isoscalar pairing
correlations are enhanced with increasing deformation, which contradict the
mean-field predictions. It is also demonstrated that the pair correlations,
which are quenched at T=0 and high rotational frequency re-appear at finite
temperature. The changes in the individual multipole pairing fields as a
function of rotation and deformation are analyzed in detail.Comment: 16 pages 6 figure
'Help for hay fever', a goal-focused intervention for people with intermittent allergic rhinitis, delivered in Scottish community pharmacies: study protocol for a pilot cluster randomized controlled trial
<b>Background</b> Despite the availability of evidence-based guidelines for managing allergic rhinitis in primary care, management of the condition in the United Kingdom (UK) remains sub-optimal. Its high prevalence and negative effects on quality of life, school performance, productivity and co-morbid respiratory conditions (in particular, asthma), and high health and societal costs, make this a priority for developing novel models of care. Recent Australian research demonstrated the potential of a community pharmacy-based âgoal-focusedâ intervention to help people with intermittent allergic rhinitis to self-manage their condition better, reduce symptom severity and improve quality of life. In this pilot study we will assess the transferability of the goal-focused intervention to a UK context, the suitability of the intervention materials, procedures and outcome measures and collect data to inform a future definitive UK randomized controlled trial (RCT). <p></p>
<b>Methods/design</b> A pilot cluster RCT with associated preliminary economic analysis and embedded qualitative evaluation. The pilot trial will take place in two Scottish Health Board areas: Grampian and Greater Glasgow and Clyde. Twelve community pharmacies will be randomly assigned to intervention or usual care group. Each will recruit 12 customers seeking advice or treatment for intermittent allergic rhinitis. Pharmacy staff in intervention pharmacies will support recruited customers in developing strategies for setting and achieving goals that aim to avoid/minimize triggers for, and eliminate/minimize symptoms of allergic rhinitis. Customers recruited in non-intervention pharmacies will receive usual care. The co-primary outcome measures, selected to inform a sample size calculation for a future RCT, are: community pharmacy and customer recruitment and completion rates; and effect size of change in the validated mini-Rhinoconjunctivitis Quality of Life Questionnaire between baseline, one-week and six-weeks post-intervention. Secondary outcome measures relate to changes in symptom severity, productivity, medication adherence and self-efficacy. Quantitative data about accrual, retention and economic measures, and qualitative data about participantsâ experiences during the trial will be collected to inform the future RCT.<P></P>
<b>Discussion</b> This work will lay the foundations for a definitive RCT of a community pharmacy-based âgoal-focusedâ self-management intervention for people with intermittent allergic rhinitis. Results of the pilot trial are expected to be available in April 2013
Current optical technologies for wireless access
The objective of this paper is to describe recent activities and investigations on free-space optics (FSO) or optical wireless and the excellent results achieved within SatNEx an EU-framework 6th programme and IC 0802 a COST action. In a first part, the FSO technology is briefly discussed. In a second part, we mention some performance evaluation criterions for the FSO. In third part, we briefly discuss some optical signal propagation experiments through the atmosphere by mentioning network architectures for FSO and then discuss the recent investigations in airborne and satellite application experiments for FSO. In part four, we mention some recent investigation results on modelling the FSO channel under fog conditions and atmospheric turbulence. Additionally, some recent major performance improvement results obtained by employing hybrid systems and using some specific modulation and coding schemes are presented
Leptogenesis from Gravity Waves in Models of Inflation
We present a new mechanism for creating the observed cosmic matter-antimatter
asymmetry which satisfies all three Sakharov conditions from one common thread,
gravitational waves. We generate lepton number through the gravitational
anomaly in the lepton number current. The source term comes from elliptically
polarizated gravity waves that are produced during inflation if the inflaton
field contains a CP-odd component. In simple inflationary scenarios, the
generated matter asymmetry is very small. We describe some special conditions
