    Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS) is one among major lifestyle hazard of superfast and advanced 21st century. According to contemporary science, only palliative measures in the form of Tear supplements are available which has to be used lifelong by the patients. So considering the grave nature of the disease, higher incidence and lack of effective measure it has been selected for the present study. As CVS is a technological occupational hazard there are no direct references available in our classics. Though few features mentioned in Netra rogas provide indirect references through which one can understand doctrines behind its treatment. Symptoms of CVS mainly indicate vitiation of Vata and Pitta dosha. So there is a need of finding effective measures which can fulfil the criteria such as Vatapittahara, Snehana, Chakshusya and Rasayana.Considering above facts Aschyotana with Shatavari ghrita is expected to yield better results.In the present study, 10 patients were randomly selected and treated with Shatavari Ghrita Aschyotana, 10 drops i.e., Snehana type, twice daily for a period of 30 days. Follow up study was undertaken for every 15 days upto 3 months. There is significant improvement in condition especially related to subjective symptoms like eye strain, dryness, diplopia and redness. The collected data was statistically analysed and at the end of present study overall response was moderate i.e., 65.96%.Hence we can infer that Ayurvedic siddhantas are eternal and can be applied in understanding any disease. Shatavari Ghrita Aschyotana proved effective in management of Computer Vision Syndrome. So this simple, cost effective formulation can be used in treating CVS

    A Modified Architecture for Radix-4 Booth Multiplier with Adaptive Hold Logic

    High speed digital multipliers are most efficiently used in many applications such as Fourier transform, discrete cosine transforms, and digital filtering. The throughput of the multipliers is based on speed of the multiplier, and then the entire performance of the circuit depends on it. The pMOS transistor in negative bias cause negative bias temperature instability (NBTI), which increases the threshold voltage of the transistor and reduces the multiplier speed. Similarly, the nMOS transistor in positive bias cause positive bias temperature instability (PBTI).These effects reduce the transistor speed and the system may fail due to timing violations. So here a new multiplier was designed with novel adaptive hold logic (AHL) using Radix-4 Modified Booth Multiplier. By using Radix-4 Modified Booth Encoding (MBE), we can reduce the number of partial products by half. Modified booth multiplier helps to provide higher throughput with low power consumption. This can adjust the AHL circuit to reduce the performance degradation. The expected result will be reduce threshold voltage, increase throughput and speed and also reduce power. This modified multiplier design is coded by Verilog and simulated using Xilinx ISE 12.1 and implemented in Spartan 3E FPGA kit

    Background: “SAMM” refers to the morbidity a woman actually suffers1. The identification of Eclampsia as a cause of severe maternal morbidity has emerged as a promising complement or alternative to the investigation of maternal deaths. The most common tool used to identify SAMM is by WHO criteria. Incorporation of near-misses into maternal death enquiries would improve the quality of care and its standardization.Methods: A descriptive study of SAMM in the department of OBG in KIMS hospital done between Jan 2013 to June 2014. The total number of deliveries during this period were 2786. There were 43 cases of Eclampsia as a cause of SAMM. Among this, 1 case was admitted in ICU due to peripartum cardiomyopathy, MODS, HELLP syndrome. Data were collected as per Performa (facility based Maternal Near Miss Review Form [MNM-R FORM] and statistical analysis was performed.Results: The cases of near miss have 2 or more factors responsible for it. In this study,23% of SAMM are due to lack of resources and Lack of transport from home to health care facility. 20% due to lack of human resources.11% due to lack of awareness. Other responsible for minor contributory factors.Conclusions: SAMM can be decreased by identifying factors responsible for it and steps taken to resolve them. Step by step improvement to be done as all the factors are modifiable

    Cardiac Phase Retrieval in Intravascular Ultrasound Sequences

    Acquisition of intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) sequences is a major artifact for 3-D exploring of coronary arteries. Most current techniques are based on the electrocardiogram (ECG) signal to obtain a gated pullback without longitudinal motion by using specific hardware or the ECG signal itself. We present an image-based approach for cardiac phase retrieval from coronary IVUS sequences without an ECG signal. A signal reflecting cardiac motion is computed by exploring the image intensity local mean evolution. The signal is filtered by a series of filters namely Gaussian and Optical at the main cardiac frequency. After applying minimum and maximum values of threshold, based on the pixel values at different position, the cardiac phase is retrieved and the report is mailed to the concerned.     The proposed model enables users to improve health related risks and reduce healthcare costs by collecting, recording, analyzing and sharing large data streams in real time and efficiently. In a hospital health care monitoring system it is necessary to constantly monitor the patient’s physiological parameters. For example a pregnant woman parameters such as blood pressure (BP) and heart rate of the woman and heart rate and movements of fetal to control their health condition. The idea of this project came so to reduce the headache of patient to visit to doctor every time he need to check his blood pressure, heart beat rate, temperature etc. With the help of this proposal the time of both patients and doctors are saved and doctors can also help in emergency scenario as much as possible. This system can detect the abnormal conditions, issue an alarm to the patient and send a information to the physician. The proposed outcome of the project is to give proper and efficient medical services to patients by connecting and collecting data information through health status monitors which would include patient’s heart rate, blood pressure and sends an emergency alert to patient’s doctor with his current status and full medical information

    INFLUENCE OF SITTING ORIENTATION ON UPPER EXTREMITY FUNCTION IN NORMAL CHILDREN BETWEEN 5 TO 16 YEARS USING NINE HOLE PEG TEST

    Background: This study was to measure the upper extremity performance time on Nine Hole Peg Test in two different sitting orientations relative to vertical plane. Aim: To find out the influence of sitting orientation on upper extremity motor function using NHPT. Methods: 100 children with the mean age 11year (53 male, 47 female) participated in the study. Children were selected according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. Age groups were re-established for data representation purposes as: 5-7, 8-10, 11-13, 14-16. Each one was briefly interviewed prior to the test, procedure explained and statistical analysis was done for the final results. Results: Gender wise relation revealed non-significant difference in performance time on NHPT in 90o upright and 15o anterior sitting orientation. Performance time on NHPT with dominant and non-dominant hand in 90o upright & 15o anterior sitting orientation shows significant difference. The mean performance time with dominant hand on NHPT was slightly lesser in 15o anterior sitting orientation than 90o upright orientations. According to age wise distribution the performance time on NHPT reveals that as the age increases the performance time decreases from 5-11 year. The performance time becomes constant from 11-16 years of age. Conclusion: Result of this study suggest that trunk orientation does not affect upper extremity performance on NHPT. As it implies that 15o anterior trunk orientation is equivalent to upright sitting orientation. Hence both the trunk orientation can be used to train patients for upper extremity hand function

    Ofloxacin-induced maculopapular rash in the infant

    Adverse drug reactions (ADRs) are a major cause of morbidity and mortality in countries having limited healthcare resources. The ofloxacin is an antimicrobial used for treating several bacterial infections. The ofloxacin, belonging to quinolone group of drugs, is bactericidal and acts by inhibition of bacterial DNA gyrase. Among the adverse drug reaction of ofloxacin, skin rashes are rare. An ofloxacin-induced maculopapular rash is the unique rare condition in the infant. The present case report was assessing the causality in ofloxacin induced maculopapular rash in the infant. Naranjo Adverse Drug Reaction Probability Scale and World Health Organization and Uppsala Monitoring Centre (WHO-UMC) system for standardized case causality assessment were used for assessing the causality. According to the Naranjo and WHO-UMC, ofloxacin scaled as the probable/likely cause of this ADR in infant. So, authors can conclude that the ofloxacin should be used cautiously in the pediatric age group

At the same time geographical difficulties, poor socio-economical status, superstitial and religious beliefs are some important factors contributing to more Psycho-social problems in this area including Physical Health. We focused in this Study to find out Psychological Problems, Health issues and planning future activities for School going adolescent girls.Methods: The Study was carried out on total no. Of 1290 School going adolescent girls of age group 11-20 years, over the period of six months. The following Psychological and Physical parameters were considered. Mental Status Examination, Higher Mental Functions, Personality, Decision Making capacity. Hemoglobin status, Body Mass Index and Health related factors of Adolescent girls.Results: According to Psychological assessment78.46% had abnormal expression, poor hygiene, low decision making. 72.47% were underweight and 47.22% were anemic.Conclusions: More Active measures need to be taken for care of Psychological and Physical health. Awareness Programme needs to implement for Students, Parents, Teachers and Public.

    Conservative management of traumatic brachial plexus injury: a case report

    Brachial plexus injury (BPI) is one of the devastating conditions for patients, which has a negative impact on patients' quality of life. It renders patients with an inability to achieve functional independence. With advancements in surgeries and rehabilitation, improvement in these domains is possible. This case report describes the rehabilitation of a 28-year-old male patient. Being a driver by occupation and the only earning member in the family, upper limb function was essential for functional independence and resume work. After examination, problems were identified, goals were set, and intervention was planned. The patient took 2 months of inpatient rehabilitation six days a week. After completion of treatment, the patient was independent in basic and instrumental activities of daily living. The study concludes that structured, evidence-based physiotherapy treatment is effective in achieving functional independence and reducing disability in patients with traumatic BPI
