The aim of the work. Cooperation between MacEwan University and I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University in the realization of the educational programme of Public Health. Materials and Methods. 23 students of the MacEwan University Nursing Faculty (including Canada, Ghana, Nigeria, and India) spent one week at I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University (TNMU). The work of students and teachers was focused on interactive learning of questions of global/planetary health issues and included flipped classroom format, seminars, team-based learning and field clinics coordinated by MacEwan faculty members in partnership with the TNMU members. Results and Discussion. Cooperation between TNMU and MacEwan University corresponds to the strategy of the MacEwan University Nursing Faculty: Nurses making a difference in the health of global communities and mission: transformative learning in nursing education and professional practice. The educational course was organized to the students to align with three essential components of planetary health: relationality, sustainability, and ways of knowing. Through interactive learning in an international setting, students developed a shared understanding of how people relate to each other and to their environments, compared Canadian and Ukrainian approaches to the Sustainable Development Goals, and created space for understanding different ways of knowing and how these enhance health and wellbeing. Students visited a variety of health care facilities, including pediatric clinics, mental health hospital, HIV clinic, perinatal centre, orphanages, and rehabilitation centres. Conclusions. Co-creation of the program, and involving Ukrainian students offers opportunities to examine and change nursing education and professional practice. The face-to-face format of the trip is invaluable in enhancing emotional and informal learning as well as developing capacity as global citizens. The course provides an excellent foundation for students who wish to pursue graduate studies in global health either in Nursing or in Public Health.

Microcondylaea bonellii as a new host for the European bitterling Rhodeus amarus

We report for the first time that the freshwater mussel Microcondylaea bonellii (Ferussac, 1827) functions as a suitable host for the European bitterling Rhodeus amarus (Bloch, 1782). Given the recent expansion of R. amarus in Europe, the possible physiological cost (e.g. competition for oxygen, reduction in water circulation, and consequent impairment of filter-feeding) of this interaction may further affect the already poor conservation status of M. bonellii populations. We acknowledge the two anonymous referees for the helpful suggestions that improve the clarity of our manuscript. Machine Learning based tool for CMS RPC currents quality monitoring

The muon system of the CERN Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment includes more than a thousand Resistive Plate Chambers (RPC). They are gaseous detectors operated in the hostile environment of the CMS underground cavern on the Large Hadron Collider where pp luminosities of up to 2×10342\times 10^{34} cm2s1\text{cm}^{-2}\text{s}^{-1} are routinely achieved. The CMS RPC system performance is constantly monitored and the detector is regularly maintained to ensure stable operation. The main monitorable characteristics are dark current, efficiency for muon detection, noise rate etc. Herein we describe an automated tool for CMS RPC current monitoring which uses Machine Learning techniques. We further elaborate on the dedicated generalized linear model proposed already and add autoencoder models for self-consistent predictions as well as hybrid models to allow for RPC current predictions in a distant future

Search for a vector-like quark T′ → tH via the diphoton decay mode of the Higgs boson in proton-proton collisions at s \sqrt{s} = 13 TeV

A search for the electroweak production of a vector-like quark T′, decaying to a top quark and a Higgs boson is presented. The search is based on a sample of proton-proton collision events recorded at the LHC at = 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb−1. This is the first T′ search that exploits the Higgs boson decay to a pair of photons. For narrow isospin singlet T′ states with masses up to 1.1 TeV, the excellent diphoton invariant mass resolution of 1–2% results in an increased sensitivity compared to previous searches based on the same production mechanism. The electroweak production of a T′ quark with mass up to 960 GeV is excluded at 95% confidence level, assuming a coupling strength κT = 0.25 and a relative decay width Γ/MT′ < 5%

The measurements of the inclusive and differential fiducial cross sections of the Higgs boson decaying to a pair of photons are presented. The analysis is performed using proton-proton collisions data recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137 fb1^{−1}. The inclusive fiducial cross section is measured to be σfidσ_{fid}=73.45.3+5.4^{+5.4}_{−5.3}(stat)2.2+2.4^{+2.4}_{−2.2}(syst) fb, in agreement with the standard model expectation of 75.4 ± 4.1 fb. The measurements are also performed in fiducial regions targeting different production modes and as function of several observables describing the diphoton system, the number of additional jets present in the event, and other kinematic observables. Two double differential measurements are performed. No significant deviations from the standard model expectations are observed

Measurement of the Dependence of the Hadron Production Fraction Ratios fs/fuf_s / f_u and fd/fuf_d / f_u on BB Meson Kinematic Variables in Proton-Proton Collisions at s=13TeV\sqrt{s} = 13 TeV

The dependence of the ratio between the Bs0B^0_s and B+B^+ hadron production fractions, fs/fuf_s/f_u, on the transverse momentum (pT)(p_T) and rapidity of the BB mesons is studied using the decay channels Bs0J/ψϕB^0_s→J/ψϕ and B+J/ψK+B^+→J/ψK^+. The analysis uses a data sample of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, collected by the CMS experiment in 2018 and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 61.6  fb161.6  fb^{−1}. The fs/fuf_s/f_u ratio is observed to depend on the BB pTp_T and to be consistent with becoming asymptotically constant at large pTp_T. No rapidity dependence is observed. The ratio of the B0B^0 to B+B^+ meson production fractions, fd/fuf_d/f_u, is also measured, for the first time in proton-proton collisions, using the B0J/ψK0B^0→J/ψK^{*0} decay channel. The result is found to be within 1 standard deviation of unity and independent of pTpT and rapidity, as expected from isospin invariance

Probing Heavy Majorana Neutrinos and the Weinberg Operator through Vector Boson Fusion Processes in Proton-Proton Collisions at √s = 13 TeV

    Get PDF
The first search exploiting the vector boson fusion process to probe heavy Majorana neutrinos and the Weinberg operator at the LHC is presented. The search is performed in the same-sign dimuon final state using a proton-proton collision dataset recorded at √s=13  TeV, collected with the CMS detector and corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 138  fb−1. The results are found to agree with the predictions of the standard model. For heavy Majorana neutrinos, constraints on the squared mixing element between the muon and the heavy neutrino are derived in the heavy neutrino mass range 50 GeV–25 TeV; for masses above 650 GeV these are the most stringent constraints from searches at the LHC to date. A first test of the Weinberg operator at colliders provides an observed upper limit at 95% confidence level on the effective μμ Majorana neutrino mass of 10.8 GeV
