Dividend Yield and Price-Earnings Ratio: a Further Look

The dividend Yield and Price Earnings Ratio are two widely used measures of share valuation. This paper presents the value relevance controversy of these two measures. It reveals that both D/Y and P/E provide useful information to rational investors but D/Y can vary independently of the value of the company and P/E ratio is also uninformative

An exploration of obesity: childhood onset obesity and adult onset obesity

The prevalence of obesity in the United States can be considered alarming, given its dramatic increase over the past twenty years. A large percentage of the obese population suffers from both medical and psychological side effects. This study focused on how non-obese and obese individuals perceive one\u27s own body. Based on research, it was hypothesized that obese individuals are more likely than non-obese individuals to perceive one\u27s body negatively. It was also hypothesized that obese individuals who suffer from childhood onset obesity as opposed to adult onset obesity are more likely to perceive one\u27s body negatively. Participants were recruited from a medical office located in a middle-upper class suburban town of South Jersey. Body shape attitudes were attained through the Body Shape Questionnaire. Through a One-Way ANOVA, it was found that non-obese females view their bodies more favorably than obese females. No significant results were found to support a relationship between childhood and adult onset obesity

This Study aims to investigate the impact of the application of Corporate Governance (CG) rules on the performance of Jordanian listed companies that consider new ventures by analyzing their annual reports for the year 2013 produced by targeted companies or provided by Amman Stock Exchange (ASE). To achieve the objectives of the study, this research adopted a survey to find the extent of application of the rules of CG guidelines issued by the Amman Securities Commission (ASC) as an indicator to measure the application of CG rules. The findings of this study indicate a strong commitment to CG and all targeted companies disclosed information about the Board of Directors of a shareholding company. In regards to General Assembly meeting, a moderate commitment was indicated. Furthermore, the results of this study indicate   a weak application for CG relate to the Shareholders' Rights (lowest among all investigated rules), and the commitment to issues related to Transparency and disclosure is still weak. Finally, the results show that no associations are exist between the company`s performance “ROA, ROE and EPS” and the reporting of the company CG application. Anxiety, Depression, and Pain: Considerations in the Treatment of Patients with Uncontrolled Hypertension

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: The association between mental health, pain, and treatment-resistant hypertension is an important consideration for treating physicians. We review and discuss the connection between conditions of anxiety, depression, and chronic pain and their effect on uncontrolled hypertension. RECENT FINDINGS: There is significant co-occurrence of hypertension with anxiety, depression, and chronic pain which may lead to undertreatment of hypertension and undertreatment of the underlying mental health disorder. The association between mental health and hypertension is complex and is modulated by physiologic and environmental factors. Physicians treating patients with hypertension should be cognizant of the role anxiety, depression, and chronic pain play in treatment efficacy and compliance. Patients undergoing treatment should be screened for mental health disorders at treatment initiation and frequently thereafter to ensure optimal overall health and compliance

3D Ultrafast Shear Wave Absolute Vibro-Elastography using a Matrix Array Transducer

3D ultrasound imaging provides more spatial information compared to conventional 2D frames by considering the volumes of data. One of the main bottlenecks of 3D imaging is the long data acquisition time which reduces practicality and can introduce artifacts from unwanted patient or sonographer motion. This paper introduces the first shear wave absolute vibro-elastography (S-WAVE) method with real-time volumetric acquisition using a matrix array transducer. In SWAVE, an external vibration source generates mechanical vibrations inside the tissue. The tissue motion is then estimated and used in solving a wave equation inverse problem to provide the tissue elasticity. A matrix array transducer is used with a Verasonics ultrasound machine and frame rate of 2000 volumes/s to acquire 100 radio frequency (RF) volumes in 0.05 s. Using plane wave (PW) and compounded diverging wave (CDW) imaging methods, we estimate axial, lateral and elevational displacements over 3D volumes. The curl of the displacements is used with local frequency estimation to estimate elasticity in the acquired volumes. Ultrafast acquisition extends substantially the possible S-WAVE excitation frequency range, now up to 800 Hz, enabling new tissue modeling and characterization. The method was validated on three homogeneous liver fibrosis phantoms and on four different inclusions within a heterogeneous phantom. The homogeneous phantom results show less than 8% (PW) and 5% (CDW) difference between the manufacturer values and the corresponding estimated values over a frequency range of 80 Hz to 800 Hz. The estimated elasticity values for the heterogeneous phantom at 400 Hz excitation frequency show average errors of 9% (PW) and 6% (CDW) compared to the provided average values by MRE. Furthermore, both imaging methods were able to detect the inclusions within the elasticity volumes

Pharmacists’ Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices Towards Herbal Remedies In West Bank, Palestine

Background: There is an increasing trend towards consumption of complementary and alternative herbal products in many parts of the world. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the knowled - ge and attitudes among pharmacists in West Bank, Palestine towards the use of herbs. Methods: Self-administered questionnaire was designed as the study instrument and distributed among 350 qualified pharmacists working in government and private pharmacies in West Bank, Palestine. Results: The response rate was 82.9% (290/350). The mean age of the pharmacists was 32.9 (SD=6.5) years. The majority of the phar - macist 238 (82.1%) worked in the community pharmacies and their experience in practice ranged from 1 to 26 years. Product package instructions and product representative were the most consulted by the pharmacists (128; 44.2% and 73; 25.2% respectively). General health tonic preparations were the most widely dispensed drugs (142; 48.9%), followed by cough preparations (55; 19.0%) and slimming agents (64; 22.1%). The Majority of pharmacists (195; 67.2%) belie - ved herbal remedies were effective; however, about fifty percent of the pharmacists had concern about their safety. The knowledge of respondents about the indications of herbal medicine was good, but their awareness of interactions, contraindications and adverse effects was inadequate. The majority of Pharmacists (255; 87.9%) believed that herbal product should undergo increased regulation and (215; 74.9%) believed that information available about herbal and natural product isn't adequate

The aim of the paper is to present a nontrivial and natural extension of the comparison result and the monotone iterative procedure based on upper and lower solutions, which were recently established in (Wang et al. in Appl. Math. Lett. 25:1019-1024, 2012), to the case of any finite number of nonlinear fractional differential equations. The author is very grateful to the reviewers for the remarks, which improved the final version of the manuscript.
