Noncollinear Ferromagnetism in (III,Mn)V Semiconductors
We investigate the stability of the collinear ferromagnetic state in kinetic
exchange models for (III,Mn)V semiconductors with randomly distributed Mn ions
>. Our results suggest that {\em noncollinear ferromagnetism} is commom to
these semiconductor systems. The instability of the collinear state is due to
long-ranged fluctuations invloving a large fraction of the localized magnetic
moments. We address conditions that favor the occurrence of noncollinear
groundstates and discuss unusual behavior that we predict for the temperature
and field dependence of its saturation magnetization.Comment: 5 pages, one figure included, presentation of technical aspects

Dissipation effects in spin-Hall transport of electrons and holes
We investigate the spin-Hall effect of both electrons and holes in
semiconductors using the Kubo formula in the correct zero-frequency limit
taking into account the finite momentum relaxation time of carriers in real
semiconductors. This approach allows to analyze the range of validity of recent
theoretical findings. In particular, the spin-Hall conductivity vanishes for
vanishing spin-orbit coupling if the correct zero-frequency limit is performed.Comment: 5 pages, no figures, version to appear in Phys. Rev.
Spin- and entanglement-dynamics in the central spin model with homogeneous couplings
We calculate exactly the time-dependent reduced density matrix for the
central spin in the central-spin model with homogeneous Heisenberg couplings.
Therefrom, the dynamics and the entanglement entropy of the central spin are
obtained. A rich variety of behaviors is found, depending on the initial state
of the bath spins. For an initially unpolarized unentangled bath, the
polarization of the central spin decays to zero in the thermodynamic limit,
while its entanglement entropy becomes maximal. On the other hand, if the
unpolarized environment is initially in an eigenstate of the total bath spin,
the central spin and the entanglement entropy exhibit persistent monochromatic
large-amplitude oscillations. This raises the question to what extent
entanglement of the bath spins prevents decoherence of the central spin.Comment: 8 pages, 2 figures, typos corrected, published versio
Cyclotron motion and magnetic focusing in semiconductor quantum wells with spin-orbit coupling
We investigate the ballistic motion of electrons in III-V semiconductor
quantum wells with Rashba spin-orbit coupling in a perpendicular magnetic
field. Taking into account the full quantum dynamics of the problem, we explore
the modifications of classical cyclotron orbits due to spin-orbit interaction.
As a result, for electron energies comparable with the cyclotron energy the
dynamics are particularly rich and not adequately described by semiclassical
approximations. Our study is complementary to previous semiclassical approaches
concentrating on the regime of weaker fields.Comment: 14 pages, 8 figures included, version to appear in Phys. Rev.
Overlap integral for quantum skyrmions
We made use a simplified form for the quantum skyrmion wave function based on
the spin coherent states to obtain the analytical expression for appropriate
overlap integral.Comment: 5 pages, no figure
Focusing of Spin Polarization in Semiconductors by Inhomogeneous Doping
We study the evolution and distribution of non-equilibrium electron spin
polarization in n-type semiconductors within the two-component drift-diffusion
model in an applied electric field. Propagation of spin-polarized electrons
through a boundary between two semiconductor regions with different doping
levels is considered. We assume that inhomogeneous spin polarization is created
locally and driven through the boundary by the electric field. The electric
field distribution and spin polarization distribution are calculated
numerically. We show that an initially created narrow region of spin
polarization can be further compressed and amplified near the boundary. Since
the boundary involves variation of doping but no real interface between two
semiconductor materials, no significant spin-polarization loss is expected. The
proposed mechanism will be therefore useful in designing new spintronic
devices
On the semiclassical treatment of anharmonic quantum oscillators via coherent states - The Toda chain revisited
We use coherent states as a time-dependent variational ansatz for a
semiclassical treatment of the dynamics of anharmonic quantum oscillators. In
this approach the square variance of the Hamiltonian within coherent states is
of particular interest. This quantity turns out to have natural interpretation
with respect to time-dependent solutions of the semiclassical equations of
motion. Moreover, our approach allows for an estimate of the decoherence time
of a classical object due to quantum fluctuations. We illustrate our findings
at the example of the Toda chain.Comment: 12 pages, some remarks added. Version to be published in J. Phys. A:

High Order Coherent Control Sequences of Finite-Width Pulses
The performance of sequences of designed pulses of finite length is
analyzed for a bath of spins and it is compared with that of sequences of
ideal, instantaneous pulses. The degree of the design of the pulse strongly
affects the performance of the sequences. Non-equidistant, adapted sequences of
pulses, which equal instantaneous ones up to , outperform
equidistant or concatenated sequences. Moreover, they do so at low energy cost
which grows only logarithmically with the number of pulses, in contrast to
standard pulses with linear growth.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures, new figures, published versio
Spin decay and quantum parallelism
We study the time evolution of a single spin coupled inhomogeneously to a
spin environment. Such a system is realized by a single electron spin bound in
a semiconductor nanostructure and interacting with surrounding nuclear spins.
We find striking dependencies on the type of the initial state of the nuclear
spin system. Simple product states show a profoundly different behavior than
randomly correlated states whose time evolution provides an illustrative
example of quantum parallelism and entanglement in a decoherence phenomenon.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures included, version to appear in Phys. Rev.
