    Two Pion Production from Nuclei

    Differences in the photoproduction of mesons on the free proton and on nuclei are expected to reveal changes in the properties of hadrons. Double pion photoproduction from nuclei has been used to investigate the in medium modification of meson-meson interactions with the TAPS photon spectrometer at MAMI-B. Recent developments are reported. Hadron-hadron interactions and meson production and decays involving light nuclei are also studied in hadron induced experiments. In particular, the physics program of the new WASA-at-COSY facility includes double pion production from light nuclei.     The Wide Angle Shower Apparatus (WASA) has been transferred from the storage ring CELSIUS (TSL, Uppsala, Sweden) to the cooler synchrotron COSY (FZ Juelich, Germany). In this presentation, the status and planning of the WASAatCOSY project are reported.     Study of Non-Strange Baryon Resonances with Meson Photoproduction

    Photoproduction of mesons is an excellent tool for the study of nucleon resonances. Complementary to pion induced reactions, photoproduction on the free proton contributes to the determination of the basic properties of nucleon resonances like excitation energy, decay widths, spin, and the coupling to the photon. Photoproduction from light nuclei, in particular from the deuteron, reveals the isospin structure of the electromagnetic excitation of the nucleon. During the last few years, progress in this field has been substantial. New accelerator facilities combined with state-of-the-art detector technologies have pushed the experiments to unprecedented sensitivity and precision. The experimental progress has been accompanied by new developments for the reaction models, necessary to extract the properties of the nucleon states, and for modern hadron models which try to connect these properties to QCD.     Studying the ω\omega-mass in-medium in γ+Aπ0γ+X\gamma + A\to \pi^0\gamma +X reactions

    Simulations based on a coupled-channel transport model have been performed to analyze the feasibility to study the in-medium ω\omega mass exploiting the process γ+Aπ0γ+X\gamma+A\to\pi^0\gamma+X for C, Ca and Nb nuclei. The distortions due to final-state interactions of the π0\pi^0 and background contributions from the reaction γ+Aπ0π0+X\gamma+A\to\pi^0\pi^0+X are found to be small in the mass range of interest (0.6<Mπ0γ<0.80.6<M_{\pi^0\gamma}<0.8 GeV). Furthermore, the effect of the detector resolution on the π0γ\pi^0\gamma-mass determination is discussed

    Further search for a neutral boson with a mass around 9 MeV/c2

    Two dedicated experiments on internal pair conversion (IPC) of isoscalar M1 transitions were carried out in order to test a 9 MeV/c2 X-boson scenario. In the 7Li(p,e+e-)8Be reaction at 1.1 MeV proton energy to the predominantly T=0 level at 18.15 MeV, a significant deviation from IPC was observed at large pair correlation angles. In the 11B(d,n e+e-)12C reaction at 1.6 MeV, leading to the 12.71 MeV 1+ level with pure T=0 character, an anomaly was observed at 9 MeV/c2.
