In this paper, the effects of Di ethylene glycol (DEG) embedded Zirconium dioxide (ZrO2) microstructure and Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) Sensing characteristics of ZrO2 thin films prepared by spray pyrolysis method were investigated. The films are prepared at X wt. % concentrations (X= 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5) of Di ethylene Glycol. Microstructure of ZrO2 thin film was drastically changed by the addition of DEG, indicating that the addition of DEG was effective to prevent the agglomeration of ZrO2 particles. The high material and phase purities are found from the characterization studies in all as-prepared films. The better sensitivity factor (SF) values SF ~102 (at T = 450C) and SF = 100 (at T = 37oC) are obtained at 1 wt. % and 5 wt. % of Di ethylene Glycol respectively. It is observed that the gas sensing characteristics of these films are strongly influenced by the optimum concentration of DEG due to the high surface area of nano-sized ZrO2 particles

Background: Patient satisfaction is an extremely important factor responsible for the success and growth of any hospital. Hence this survey was done in a super-speciality Uro-gynaecology hospital in Nagpur, Central India to assess the patient satisfaction for indoor facilities. Methods: The present study was conducted over a period of 4 months in 100 indoor patients. These patients were asked to fill up a questionnaire just before they were discharged. Results: 88% respondents found the service by reception staff as excellent. 64% were admitted and allotted rooms within 30 minutes of arrival. 94% said that the time given by doctors was satisfactory. 96% were extremely satisfied with the disease description, 98% said that the perception of efficiency of doctors and the details of investigations discussed were excellent. 90% felt that the number of visits by doctors were adequate. Availability of medicines in the pharmacy was there for most of the times (98%). Drinking water and availability of toilets, electricity and cleanliness was present (94%). 52% were really satisfied with the final bill. Conclusions: Patients are satisfied regarding the basic amenities of the hospital and the provision for water and cleanliness levels. They are happy with the attitude and communication skills of the doctors, they expressed satisfaction about the availability of in-house pharmacy too

Pelvic pressure packing for intractable obstetric and gynaecological hemorrhage in a tertiary care hospital

Background: Haemorrhage is one of the most common complication of any surgery. Haemorrhage can be arterial, venous or capillary ooze. Massive haemorrhage if not timely managed may lead to fatal consequences. There are various medical and surgical methods to control haemorrhage. This study aims to achieve hemostasis with the help of pelvic pressure pack in Obstetric and Gynaecologic surgeries when standard methods are failed and to evaluate efficacy of simple and modified technique of pack preparation. Methods: This is an observational study of 11 cases conducted over a period of 4yrs. This study reports modification of standard packing techniques which overcomes some of its limitations. Here the pack was used in different gynaecologic and Obstetric cases, where intractable haemorrhage was the major problem and standard methods to control haemorrhage had failed. Here a simple foley’s catheter rolled with condom and filled with normal saline was used to prepare a pack and kept over the bleeding surface. This specific pack will adopt the shape of the body cavity it is inserted into, thereby causing pressure tamponade against bleeding surfaces. Pack was removed after 48-72 hours of insertion. Postoperative control of bleeding, patient stability and morbidity were studied. Results: The pelvic pressure pack successfully controlled bleeding in 100% of cases without any morbidity and mortality. Conclusions: In the contemporary management of post-hysterectomy or adhesiolysis induced uncontrolled pelvic bleeding and venous oozes, the pelvic pressure pack appears to be valuable and effective option, affording correction of coagulopathy and further stabilization. We believe all Obstetricians and Gynaecologists should be familiar with this simple safe and cheap potentially lifesaving technique

Analysis of aluminum in auto body designs and its strategic implications for the aluminum industry

Thesis (S.M.)--Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Technology and Policy Program, February 2001.Includes bibliographical references (leaves 66-67).Although the use of Aluminum in cars has been increasing for the past two decades, there has been limited progress in the development of aluminum auto bodies. Although some carmakers have developed all aluminum spaceframe designs, aluminum is far from being a material of choice for autobodies. Most aluminum substitution has come in the form of castings and forgings in the transmission, wheels etc. The substitution of steel by aluminum is partly influenced by the regulatory pressures to meet fuel efficiency standards by lightweighting and recycling standards. The thesis looks at the possible reasons-both regulatory pressures and market forces as to why aluminum has been a part by part substitute for steel rather than for the entire autobody. The key obstacle is the high cost of primary aluminum as compared to steel. Both the aluminum and the automotive industries have made attempts in their respective areas to make aluminum a cost-effective alternative to steel. The thesis looks at the possible options for the aluminum industry in the current macroeconomic conditions including scale economies and cost analysis of newer rolling technologies. The thesis then analyzes the cost of fabrication and assembly of four different aluminum car body designs compared with the conventional steel designs. The cost of the car design depends on the how cost effective that the aluminum producers can be in producing the primary aluminum. We then attempt to analyze if the aluminum can be an alternative to steel at lower primary aluminum prices, if these can be feasible and the possible implications for the aluminum producers and the regulators.by Ashish S. Simple electric powered plankton wheel for the production of aggregates in seawater on-board ship

    No full text
37-41A new handy plankton wheel was devised for use on-board a ship. Its efficacy to generate aggregates was tested on land using coastal waters. The device successfully generated aggregates of sizes varying up to 11.3 mm2 within eleven days. During an on-board experiment with oceanic water within approximately the same time period, no visible aggregates were observed but the concentration of transparent exopolymeric particles (TEPs) increased from 14.4 to 547.8 mg eq Alginic Acid L-1 indicating successful production of aggregate precursors and requirement of longer incubation periods for the production of visible aggregates with oceanic waters

Bovine Science - A Key to Sustainable Development

    No full text
Since the beginning of civilization, humans and animals have developed very strong associations to their mutual benefits. Livestock, particularly bovines, are important contributors to total food production in the world. The social expectations in Science and Technology are increasing because of rapid advances. Prevention and control of infectious diseases in bovines have been among the top-most public health objective in the last decade. In the present book, experts from different continents present important aspects of bovine science such as louse infestations of ruminants, cytogenetics of bovines, factors of competitiveness for bovines, feed manipulation, enhancement of conjugated linoleic acid and its bioavailability, emergence of antimicrobial resistance, and also meat quality. The aim of this book to provide an understanding of the present scenario, advances and challenges in bovine science
