    Postpartum intrauterine contraceptive device: evaluation of acceptance and complications

    Background: Postpartum intrauterine contraceptive device is inserted within 10 minutes to 48 hours of expulsion of placenta. The objective of the study was to determine acceptability, safety and complications of PPIUCD in tertiary care center.Methods: This is a retrospective study conducted at Zenana Hospital, SMS Medical College, Jaipur over a period of 1 year from April 2018 to March 2019. Women were followed after 6 weeks and their complaints and various parameters were analyzed.Results: 5653 women were inserted PPIUCD during 1 year period. Acceptance rate was 29.26% and higher in multipara (54.30%) and between 18 to 25 years of age (50.29%). The main complaints at follow-up were pain and bleeding which were dealt mainly by reassurance. Main cause of removal was bleeding, pain and family pressure.Conclusions: The acceptance was high in this study group. PPIUCD is safe, effective and acceptable with negligible side effects. PPIUCD has abundant scope in India where accessibility for contraception is lower during interval period and women do not come for follow-up after delivery

    Characterization and properties of controlled nucleation thermochemical deposited (CNTD) silicon carbide

    The microstructure of controlled nucleation thermochemical deposition (CNTD) - SiC material was studied and the room temperature and high temperature bend strength and oxidation resistance was evaluated. Utilizing the CNTD process, ultrafine grained (0.01-0.1 mm) SiC was deposited on W - wires (0.5 mm diameter by 20 cm long) as substrates. The deposited SiC rods had superior surface smoothness and were without any macrocolumnar growth commonly found in conventional CVD material. At both room and high temperature (1200 - 1380 C), the CNTD - SiC exhibited bend strength approximately 200,000 psi (1380 MPa), several times higher than that of hot pressed, sintered, or CVD SiC. The excellent retention of strength at high temperature was attributed to the high purity and fine grain size of the SiC deposit and the apparent absence of grain growth at elevated temperatures. The rates of weight change for CNTD - SiC during oxidation were lower than for NC-203 (hot pressed SiC), higher than for GE's CVD - SiC, and considerably below those for HS-130 (hot pressed Si3N4). The high purity, fully dense, and stable grain size CNTD - SiC material shows potential for high temperature structural applications; however problem areas might include: scaling the process to make larger parts, deposition on removable substrates, and the possible residual tensile stress

    Health problems in adolescent girls

    Background: Adolescents form precious human resources in every country, constitutes large number of populations. Adolescence is a period of rapid physical growth, sexual and psychological changes. The aim of the study is to assess the health problems in Adolescent girls and to take measures to prevent and treat their health problems. Methods: This prospective study was conducted from October 2014 to September 2016 in Hindu Rao hospital, North DMC medical college. Patients attending to gynecological outpatient department included in this study. The Statical analysis was done by using Microsoft excel. Results: Majority of patients in our study belongs to 15 to 19 years. Menstrual dysfunction (67.7%) is the most common complaint followed by leucorrhea (14.1%) and infections (10.6%). Conclusions: Adolescence girls presented with various gynaecological problems in our study. Setting up adolescent friendly clinics and privacy to discuss their problems is desirable for early diagnosis and management

    Enucleation of the solitary epithelial cyst of pancreatic head in an adult: A case report and review of the literature

    Solitary true pancreatic cyst is a rare entity, and only a few cases are reported in the literature. We report a case of a 35‑year‑old woman who had a cyst in the head of the pancreas and gall stones and presented with complaints of pain in the epigastric region. The patient underwent open cholecystectomy with aspiration of the pancreatic cyst at some other private hospital. After 4 months, she presented to us with no relief in pain. Repeat contrast‑enhanced computed tomography of the abdomen showed recurrence of the cyst. The patient underwent enucleation of the cyst at our hospital. During a 2‑year follow‑up after the enucleation, she remained asymptomatic

    Poling of ß-poly(vinylidene fluoride): dielectric and IR spectroscopy studies

    ß-Poly(vinylidene fluoride) (ß-PVDF) exhibits ferroelectric properties due to the special arrangement of the chain units in the crystalline phase. The piezoelectric properties of the material can be optimised by poling the original stretched film. The main effect of the poling process is the alignment of the randomly organised dipolar moments against the applied field. In this work, poled and non-poled ß-PVDF from the same batch are characterised by dielectric spectroscopy. The origin of the electrical and mechanical response of poled and non-poled ß-PVDF were further explored by far IR spectroscopy and discussed on a molecular level. The main effect of the poling process on-the dielectric response of the-material is a small increase of the dielectric constant due to the 'preferential alignment of the main dipolar contribution and a slight decrease of the dielectric loss, due to the more organized amorphous structure. The conductivity is strongly increased by poling, especially the high-temperature conductivity, ascribed mainly to hopping conductivity due to free charges induced during poling. FTIR experiments indicate that the origin of these effects and also of the variations in the thermo-mechanical response of the material can be found in the reorientation of the crystalline dipoles along the poling field, together with a partial reduction of the amount of alpha phase and an increase of the amount of ß phase.     Shelf life evaluation of restructured chicken meat blocks extended with sorghum flour and potato at refrigerated storage (4±1•C)

    Abstract This study was conducted to evaluate the Shelf life of restructured chicken meat blocks extended with sorghum flour and potato at refrigerated storage (4±1•C). Sorghum flour (1:1 hydration, w/w) at 9% level and potato (boiled and mashed) at 6% level were incorporated by replacing the lean meat in pre-standardized formulation. Storage quality with respect to physico-chemical [pH and Thiobarbituric Acid (TBA) value], microbiological [Psychrophilic count (PC), Total plate count (TPC) and coliform count] and sensory properties of control and extended products were studied. The products were aerobically packaged in low density polyethylene (LDPE) pouches and analysed at regular interval of 0, 5, 10 and 15 days during refrigerated storage (4±1•C). The storage period did not bring about any significant changes in pH of the products but TBA values, PC and TPC showed linear increasing trend from 0 to 15 th day of refrigerated storage in treatment products as well as control. Mesophilic and psychrotrophic counts did not exceed log 10 3.12 and 2.98 cfu/g, log 10 2.86 and 2.63 cfu/g, log 10 2.63 and 2.95 cfu/g for control, SF and potato treated RCMB, respectively. Coliforms were not detected in control and treated RCMB during the storage period of 15 days. The sensory scores of treated samples and control for appearance, flavour, binding, texture, juiciness and overall acceptability showed a progressive decline with increase in storage period but the scores were rated above good. The products retained good to very good acceptability for 15 days without any marked loss of physico-chemical, microbiological and sensory quality

    Efficacy of Flaxseed Flour as Bind Enhancing Agent on the Quality of Extended Restructured Mutton Chops

    Consumers have become very conscious about their nutrition and well being due to changes in their socio-economic lifestyle and rapid urbanization. Therefore, development of technology for production of low cost and functional meat products is urgently required. One such approach is innovative restructuring technology in which binding of meat pieces still remains the main challenge and extension of product is generally associated with poor binding and texture. Thus, the present study was envisaged as an attempt to solve this problem by the incorporation of flaxseed flour (FF) as bind enhancing agent. The FF was used at three different levels viz., 0.5%, 1%, and 1.5% to replace lean meat in pre-standardized restructured mutton chops formulation. The products were subjected to analysis for physico-chemical, sensory and textural properties. Cooking yield, moisture percentage and fat percentage increased with increase in the level of incorporation of FF, however, protein percent and pH decreased with increase in the level of incorporation. Shear force value of product incorporated with 1.5% FF was significantly higher (p<0.01) than control and product containing 0.5% FF level. Among the sensory attributes, product with 1% flaxseed flour showed significantly higher values (p<0.05) for general appearance, binding, texture and overall acceptability. Hardness showed significant increasing (p<0.01) values with increasing levels of incorporation of flaxseed flour, however all other parameters of texture profile analysis showed a decreasing trend. On the basis of sensory scores and physico-chemical properties, the optimum incorporation level of FF was adjudged as 1%. Products incorporated with optimum level of flaxseed flour (1%) were also assessed for water activity and microbiological quality during the storage period of 15 days. It was found that the extended restructured product could be safely stored under refrigeration (4°C±1°C) in low density polyethylene (LDPE) pouches for 15 days without marked deterioration in sensory and microbiological quality. Thus, it was concluded that flaxseed flour can be used as a good bind enhancing agent in extended restructured meat products at an economic cost

    Liver imaging : it is time to adopt standardized terminology

    Liver imaging plays a vital role in the management of patients at risk for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC); however, progress in the field is challenged by nonuniform and inconsistent terminology in the published literature. The Steering Committee of the American College of Radiology (ACR)’s Liver Imaging Reporting And Data System (LI-RADS), in conjunction with the LI-RADS Lexicon Writing Group and the LI-RADS International Working Group, present this consensus document to establish a single universal liver imaging lexicon. The lexicon is intended for use in research, education, and clinical care of patients at risk for HCC (i.e., the LI-RADS population) and in the general population (i.e., even when LI-RADS algorithms are not applicable). We anticipate that the universal adoption of this lexicon will provide research, educational, and clinical benefits
