    Investigation of the electrocatalytic reaction for the oxidation of alcohols through the formation of a metal organic framework (Mn-MIL-100)/polymer matrix on the surface of an Au electrode

    An electrode composite containing a metal organic framework (Mn-MIL-100) was prepared by linkers including gold nanoparticles/polypyrrole and cysteine. The electrocatalytic application of this nanocomposite was evaluated via the oxidation of benzylic and aliphatic alcohols under open air conditions. Various active and inactive alcohol derivatives were successfully converted to the corresponding ketones with excellent yields. This advanced electrocatalyst proved to have remarkable stability over several recovery cycles from the reaction medium without significant change in its activity and selectivity and its regeneration potential. The active surface area of this electrocatalyst is very large due to its structural features, arising from the introduction of a metal organic framework (Mn-MIL-100) on a gold electrode, which provides more accessible surface sites, therefore boosting the electrocatalytic activity. The structure of the synthesized electrocatalyst has been characterized by FESEM, EDX, and AFM techniques. © 2023 The Royal Society of Chemistr

    Comparison of sterols and fatty acids in two species of Ganoderma

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Two species of <it>Ganoderma, G. sinense </it>and <it>G. lucidum</it>, are used as <it>Lingzhi </it>in China. Howerver, the content of triterpenoids and polysaccharides, main actives compounds, are significant different, though the extracts of both <it>G. lucidum </it>and <it>G. sinense </it>have antitumoral proliferation effect. It is suspected that other compounds contribute to their antitumoral activity. Sterols and fatty acids have obvious bioactivity. Therefore, determination and comparison of sterols and fatty acids is helpful to elucidate the active components of <it>Lingzhi</it>.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Ergosterol, a specific component of fungal cell membrane, was rich in <it>G. lucidum </it>and <it>G. sinense</it>. But its content in <it>G. lucidum </it>(median content 705.0 μg·g<sup>-1</sup>, range 189.1-1453.3 μg·g<sup>-1</sup>, n = 19) was much higher than that in <it>G. sinense </it>(median content 80.1 μg·g<sup>-1</sup>, range 16.0-409.8 μg·g<sup>-1</sup>, n = 13). Hierarchical clustering analysis based on the content of ergosterol showed that 32 tested samples of <it>Ganoderma </it>were grouped into two main clusters, <it>G. lucidum </it>and <it>G. sinense</it>. Hierarchical clustering analysis based on the contents of ten fatty acids showed that two species of <it>Ganoderma </it>had no significant difference though two groups were also obtained. The similarity of two species of <it>Ganoderma </it>in fatty acids may be related to their antitumoral proliferation effect.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>The content of ergosterol is much higher in <it>G. lucidum </it>than in <it>G. sinense</it>. Palmitic acid, linoleic acid, oleic acid, stearic acid are main fatty acids in <it>Ganoderma </it>and their content had no significant difference between <it>G. lucidum </it>and <it>G. sinense</it>, which may contribute to their antitumoral proliferation effect.</p

Compound 1 possesses a rare NiII3NaI cubane (3M4-1) topology and compound 2 is the first example in polynuclear Ni/Na chemistry that exhibits a 2,3,4M7-1 topology

    Synthesis, characterization and antibacterial activity studies of new 2‑pyrral‑L‑amino acid Schif base palladium (II) complexes.

    Three new 2-pyrral amino acid Schif base palladium (II) complexes were synthesized, characterized and their activity against six bacterial species was investigated. The ligands: Potassium 2-pyrrolidine-L-methioninate (L1), Potassium 2-pyrrolidine-L-histidinate (L2) and Potassium 2-pyrrolidine-L-tryptophanate (L3) were synthesized and reacted with dichloro(1,5- cyclooctadiene)palladium(II) to form new palladium (II) complexes C1, C2 and C3, respectively. 1 NMR, FTIR, UV–Vis,elemental analysis and conductivity measurements were used to characterize the products. The antibacterial activities of the compounds were evaluated against Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus, ATCC 25923), methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA, ATCC 33591), Staphylococcus epidermidis (S. epidermidis, ATCC 12228) and Streptococcus pyogenes (S. pyogenes, ATCC 19615) and, gram-negative Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa, ATCC 27853) and Klebsiella pneumoniae (K. pneumoniae, ATCC 13883) using the agar well difusion assay and microtitre plate serial dilution method. The palladium complexes were active against the selected bacteria with the imidazole ring containing complex C2 and indole heterocyclic ring containing complex C3 showing the highest activity

    Analyzing Capacity Withholding in Oligopoly Electricity Markets Considering Forward Contracts and Demand Elasticity

    In this paper capacity withholding in an oligopolistic electricity market that all Generation Companies (GenCos) bid in a Cournot model is analyzed and the capacity withheld index, the capacity distortion index and the price distortion index are obtained and formulated. Then a new index, Distortion-Withheld Index (DWI), is proposed in order to measure the potential ability of market for capacity withholding. In these indices the impact of demand elasticity on capacity withholding is considered and it is shown that demand elasticity plays an important role for capacity withholding and market power mitigation. Due to the significant role of forward contracts for market power mitigation and risk hedging in power markets, the impacts of these contracts on capacity withholding are considered. The effects of GenCos’ strategic forward contracts on capacity withholding are also discussed. Moreover, the relationship between capacity withholding of GenCos and market price distortion is acquired. A two-settlement market including a forward market and a spot market is used to describe GenCos’ strategic forward contracting and spot market competition

    Herein, the synthesis of a novel functionalized metal-organic-framework (MOF) UMCM-1-NH2-furfural/Pd Nano composite [UMCM-1-NH2-F2C-Pd Nano composite] is reported using the post-synthetic modification of UMCM-1-NH2. The targeted complex was prepared while chemically attaching the furfural – using Schiff base reaction followed by complexation with Pd ions. Afterward, the synthesized solid was applied as a very effective multifunctional catalyst in Suzuki and Heck coupling reactions. This technique which was facile, clean, and economically justified used only 0.01 g of the catalyst during the reaction. The easy setup, nontoxic solvent, enhanced yield, short reaction times, high turnover frequency, and catalyst durability are among the marked benefits of this synthesis method. Overall, the high catalytic activity of UMCM-1-NH2-F2C-Pd Nano composite may be due to the obtained high surface area and the synergistic features created between Lewis acidic Zn nodes and Pd ions. © 2023 Elsevier B.V
