Mobility of Discrete Solitons in Quadratically Nonlinear Media
We study the mobility of solitons in second-harmonic-generating lattices.
Contrary to what is known for their cubic counterparts, discrete quadratic
solitons are mobile not only in the one-dimensional (1D) setting, but also in
two dimensions (2D). We identify parametric regions where an initial kick
applied to a soliton leads to three possible outcomes, namely, staying put,
persistent motion, or destruction. For the 2D lattice, it is found that, for
the solitary waves, the direction along which they can sustain the largest kick
and can attain the largest speed is the diagonal. Basic dynamical properties of
the discrete solitons are also discussed in the context of an analytical
approximation, in terms of an effective Peierls-Nabarro potential in the
lattice setting.Comment: 4 page
Fractional recurrence in discrete-time quantum walk
Quantum recurrence theorem holds for quantum systems with discrete energy
eigenvalues and fails to hold in general for systems with continuous energy. We
show that during quantum walk process dominated by interference of amplitude
corresponding to different paths fail to satisfy the complete quantum
recurrence theorem. Due to the revival of the fractional wave packet, a
fractional recurrence characterized using quantum P\'olya number can be seen.Comment: 10 pages, 11 figure : Accepted to appear in Central European Journal

Nonlinear optics and light localization in periodic photonic lattices
We review the recent developments in the field of photonic lattices
emphasizing their unique properties for controlling linear and nonlinear
propagation of light. We draw some important links between optical lattices and
photonic crystals pointing towards practical applications in optical
communications and computing, beam shaping, and bio-sensing.Comment: to appear in Journal of Nonlinear Optical Physics & Materials (JNOPM
Dynamics of quantum light in integrated nonlinear waveguide arrays and generation of robust continuous variable entanglement
We study a class of nonlinear waveguide arrays where the waveguides are
endowed with quadratic non- linearity and are coupled through the evanescent
overlap of the guided modes. We study both the stimulated and spontaneous
process in the array and show the viability of such an array as a platform for
generating both bipartite and tripartite continuous variable entanglement on
demand. We explicitly address the affect of realistic losses on the
entanglement produced, briefly discuss the possible types of nonlinear
materials that could be used, and suggest solutions to the possible phase
matching issues in the waveguides. The simultaneous generation and manipulation
of the light on a single waveguide chip circumvents the usual bandwidth
problems associated with the use of external bulky optical elements and makes
this avenue promising for further investigation.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figure
Study about skin cancer screening in comparison with breast and cervix cancer screening in a female sample from Concordia, Argentina.
Introduction. The aim of this study was to describe the knowledge, practices and attitudes regarding the screening of skin cancer, compared to the breast and cervix cancer. Methods. An observational, cross-sectional study using structured questionnaires was carried out among women in the city of Concordia, Entre Ríos. The sample consisted of 90 mothers or tutors from low (G1, n=32), middle (G2, n=29) and high (G3, n=29) socioeconomic status elementary schools students. Results. Mean age were 37,9±6,6, 38,0±6,9 and 43,1±5,6 years, respectively. The annual skin exam has been performed by dermatologist in 30.0% (G1), 30.8% (G2) and 51.7% (G3) of these women. The annual gynecological exam has been done by 46.4% (G1), 60.7% (G2) and 86.2% (G3). The existence of the skin cancer prevention campaign was known in 35,7%, 16% and 10,7% in G1, G2 and G3 respectively, but only 3,7% of G2, 3,7% of G3 and no women in G1 had ever participated in a campaign. Major conclusion. These data indicate the need to achieve effective strategies that allow improving the adherence of women to prevention campaigns, especially those for skin cancer prevention, where there is less participation when compared with breast and cervical cancer screening. </p
Explaining Reurbanization: Empirical Evidence of Intraregional Migration as a Long-Term Mobility Decision from Germany
Following the discussion on reurbanization (changing intra-regional migration patterns), our research project treats transport-related consequences of this spatial development in German city regions. The hypothesis is that reurbanization bears potential to spread environmentally friendly ways of organizing daily mobility - but that the chance of those positive effects might be given away, if policy does not accompany the process adequately. The aim of this project is to assess the current impact of reurbanization on passenger transport in city regions and to find further potential to reduce motorized passenger kilometres in order to deduce first planning approaches. This paper focuses on the question whether a household decides to move or to stay in its current dwelling and also analyses how the results vary in time and space. After having deduced factors on the decision to move, a logistic regression is run on the SOEP-data. The analysis shows that observed differences in time are mainly due to difference in behaviour regarding the factors number of employed persons and the event birth whereas spatial variation is mainly due to structural differences
D 3. 3 Final performance results and consolidated view on the most promising multi -node/multi -antenna transmission technologies
This document provides the most recent updates on the technical contributions and research
challenges focused in WP3. Each Technology Component (TeC) has been evaluated
under possible uniform assessment framework of WP3 which is based on the simulation guidelines
of WP6. The performance assessment is supported by the simulation results which are in their
mature and stable state. An update on the Most Promising Technology Approaches (MPTAs)
and their associated TeCs is the main focus of this document. Based on the input of all the TeCs in WP3, a consolidated view of WP3 on the role of multinode/multi-antenna transmission
technologies in 5G systems has also been provided. This consolidated view is further
supported in this document by the presentation of the impact of MPTAs on METIS scenarios
and the addressed METIS goals.Aziz, D.; Baracca, P.; De Carvalho, E.; Fantini, R.; Rajatheva, N.; Popovski, P.; Sørensen, JH.... (2015). Fizyko-matematyczny model procesu iskrzenia ciernego
W artykule omówiony został fizyko–matematyczny model iskrzenia sprzęgła ciernego. Z procesem iskrzenia związana jest możliwość miejscowego podwyższenia temperatury i przekazywania energii, która może być przyczyną pożarów
ADVERSARIAL JUSTICE INFLUENCE ON COGNITIVE BIAS-BASED WRONGFUL CONVICTIONS
Because of the way the adversarial Justice System is structured, I argue that it makes it easier for cognitive bias to influence decision making, which should result in a larger wrongful conviction rate compared to an inquisitorial system. A review of the literature systematically breaks down many of the key difference between both systems, and attempts to paint a clear picture for the reader in support of the argument that the adversarial system is more likely to create cognitive bias-based wrongful convictions comparative to the inquisitorial system. The topic of this paper discusses structural components unique to the adversarial system such as racial profiling, plea deals, prosecutorial misconduct, justice system culture, and the effects of the media. Cognitive biases influenced by structural components of the adversarial system include framing effects, attitudinal boomeranging, deliberation effects, attribution bias, anchoring and adjustment heuristics, ambiguity effects, the women-are-wonderful effects, the white-lab-coat effect, group-think, and confirmation bias. The literature strongly supports the argument that cognitive biases are implicitly linked to judicial determination of guilt and sentencing behavior, exacerbated by the adversarial system, and inadvertently harming the same people it was designed to protect.Purchase College SUNYBachelor of ArtsHaskins, Casey R
