On the automorphisms of moduli spaces of curves
In the last years the biregular automorphisms of the Deligne-Mumford's and
Hassett's compactifications of the moduli space of n-pointed genus g smooth
curves have been extensively studied by A. Bruno and the authors. In this paper
we give a survey of these recent results and extend our techniques to some
moduli spaces appearing as intermediate steps of the Kapranov's and Keel's
realizations of , and to the degenerations of Hassett's spaces
obtained by allowing zero weights.Comment: 15 pages. The material of version 1 has been reorganized and expanded

Trauma recovery core capabilities for the children’s workforce in the United Kingdom: A Q-methodology study
There are competency frameworks and trainings relating to the development of a trauma informed workforce. These have generally been developed outside of the UK and often involve lists of 20 to 40 competencies, which can become overwhelming and often impractical to implement. The aim of this research was to develop UK expert consensus on the key elements of what would make a worker/practitioner who engages with traumatized children trauma informed and recovery focused. The use of the Delphi and Q-methodology allowed consensus across UK experts and practitioners to be developed. The Q-sort clusters responses across participants to develop a small set of overarching themes. This process led to three key components being identified (1) Recovery through new ways of coping with stress; (2) The role of the family system in the recovery process and (3) Understanding the longer-term development impact of trauma on the young person and the potential impact on the practitioner. These three components were linked to the types of roles the experts held within the trauma recovery field. It is hoped that these overarching components will guide workforce development activities including training, curriculum development, and professional standards for those who engage with traumatized young people
Unirationality of moduli spaces of special cubic fourfolds and K3 surfaces
We provide explicit descriptions of the generic members of Hassett's divisors
for relevant and for . In doing so, we
prove that is unirational for . As a
corollary, we prove that the moduli space of polarized K3
surfaces of degree is unirational for . The case is
entirely new, while the other two cases have been previously proven by Mukai.Comment: 13 pages, 2 tables. Script for the computer calculations used are

Accounting Standards, Information Flow, and Firm Investment Behavior
We present a description of two different accounting regimes that govern reporting practice in most developed countries. 'One-book' countries, e.g. Germany, use their tax books as the basis for financial reporting and 'two-book' countries, e.g. the United States, keep the books largely separate. We derive a structural model and formalize a testable implication of our discussion: firms in one-book countries may be reluctant to claim some tax benefits if reductions in taxable income may be misinterpreted by financial market participants as signals of lower profitability. Econometric estimates suggest that accounting regime differences play an important role in describing domestic investment patterns both within and across countries.
Derived categories of cubic fourfolds
We discuss the structure of the derived category of coherent sheaves on cubic
fourfolds of three types: Pfaffian cubics, cubics containing a plane and
singular cubics, and discuss its relation to the rationality of these cubics.Comment: 18 page
Utilization of cardiac monitoring tests in women with nonmetastatic breast cancer treated with trastuzumab.
AimsTrastuzumab, one of the best known examples of personalized medicine, requires regular cardiac monitoring because it can cause heart failure. We aimed to assess the utilization of cardiac monitoring in women with nonmetastatic breast cancer receiving trastuzumab-based chemotherapy in routine clinical practice.Patients & methodsThe medical records of women continuously enrolled in a large national health insurance plan who were diagnosed with nonmetastatic breast cancer and treated with trastuzumab from 2006 to 2008 were reviewed (n = 109). The primary outcome variables were the use and type of cardiac monitoring testing before and during trastuzumab therapy. An exploratory multivariable logistic regression analysis was performed to identify predictors for receiving cardiac monitoring both at baseline and during trastuzumab treatment.ResultsMonitoring both before and during therapy was less common (62%), although 74% had cardiac monitoring before therapy and 80% had at least one test during therapy. Radionuclide ventriculogram was utilized more often than echocardiography (48 vs 42%). Only the use of anthracycline (odds ratio: 2.39; 95% CI: 1.01-5.71) was significantly associated with use of a cardiac monitoring both at baseline and during trastuzumab treatment.ConclusionThe use of cardiac monitoring testing was variable and opportunities to improve quality and reduce cost are evident. These results have clinical implications for other personalized medicine interventions requiring regular laboratory monitoring
Complete moduli of cubic threefolds and their intermediate Jacobians
The intermediate Jacobian map, which associates to a smooth cubic threefold
its intermediate Jacobian, does not extend to the GIT compactification of the
space of cubic threefolds, not even as a map to the Satake compactification of
the moduli space of principally polarized abelian fivefolds. A much better
"wonderful" compactification of the space of cubic threefolds was constructed
by the first and fourth authors --- it has a modular interpretation, and
divisorial normal crossing boundary. We prove that the intermediate Jacobian
map extends to a morphism from the wonderful compactification to the second
Voronoi toroidal compactification of the moduli of principally polarized
abelian fivefolds --- the first and fourth author previously showed that it
extends to the Satake compactification. Since the second Voronoi
compactification has a modular interpretation, our extended intermediate
Jacobian map encodes all of the geometric information about the degenerations
of intermediate Jacobians, and allows for the study of the geometry of cubic
threefolds via degeneration techniques. As one application we give a complete
classification of all degenerations of intermediate Jacobians of cubic
threefolds of torus rank 1 and 2.Comment: 56 pages; v2: multiple updates and clarification in response to

A characterization of compact complex tori via automorphism groups
We show that a compact Kaehler manifold X is a complex torus if both the
continuous part and discrete part of some automorphism group G of X are
infinite groups, unless X is bimeromorphic to a non-trivial G-equivariant
fibration. Some applications to dynamics are given.Comment: title changed, to appear in Math. An
Video and computer-based interactive exercises are safe and improve task-specific balance in geriatric and neurological rehabilitation: A randomised trial
© 2015. Question: Does adding video/computer-based interactive exercises to inpatient geriatric and neurological rehabilitation improve mobility outcomes? Is it feasible and safe? Design: Randomised trial. Participants: Fifty-eight rehabilitation inpatients. Intervention: Physiotherapist-prescribed, tailored, video/computer-based interactive exercises for 1 hour on weekdays, mainly involving stepping and weight-shifting exercises. Outcome measures: The primary outcome was the Short Physical Performance Battery (0 to 3) at 2 weeks. Secondary outcomes were: Maximal Balance Range (mm); Step Test (step count); Rivermead Mobility Index (0 to 15); activity levels; Activity Measure for Post Acute Care Basic Mobility (18 to 72) and Daily Activity (15 to 60); Falls Efficacy Scale (10 to 40), ED5D utility score (0 to 1); Reintegration to Normal Living Index (0 to 100); System Usability Scale (0 to 100) and Physical Activity Enjoyment Scale (0 to 126). Safety was determined from adverse events during intervention. Results: At 2 weeks the between-group difference in the primary outcome (0.1, 95% CI -0.2 to 0.3) was not statistically significant. The intervention group performed significantly better than usual care for Maximal Balance Range (38. mm difference after baseline adjustment, 95% CI 6 to 69). Other secondary outcomes were not statistically significant. Fifty-eight (55%) of the eligible patients agreed to participate, 25/29 (86%) completed the intervention and 10 (39%) attended > 70% of sessions, with a mean of 5.6 sessions (SD 3.3) attended and overall average duration of 4.5. hours (SD 3.1). Average scores were 62 (SD 21) for the System Usability Scale and 62 (SD 8) for the Physical Activity Enjoyment Scale. There were no adverse events. Conclusion: The addition of video/computer-based interactive exercises to usual rehabilitation is a safe and feasible way to increase exercise dose, but is not suitable for all. Adding the exercises to usual rehabilitation resulted in task-specific improvements in balance but not overall mobility. Registration: ACTRN12613000610730
recA and catalase in H2O2-mediated toxicity in Neisseria gonorrhoeae.
Neisseria gonorrhoeae cells defective in the biosynthesis of the recA gene product are no more sensitive to hydrogen peroxide than wild-type cells. Although gonococci possess nearly 100-fold-greater catalase levels than Escherichia coli, they are more susceptible to hydrogen peroxide than this organism. The natural niche of gonococci undoubtedly results in exposure to oxidant stress; however, they do not demonstrate particularly efficient antioxidant defense systems
