Self-Concept Clarity, Learned Helplessness and Fatigue Severity as Predictors of Psychoactive Drug Use and Abuse among Undergraduates
This research investigated self-concept clarity, learned helplessness and fatigue severity on psychoactive drug use and abuse among undergraduates of Benue State University, Makurdi. A cross-sectional survey design was used for the study. A total number of 400 participants consisted of 240 (60.0%) males and 160 (40.0%) females were used. A battery of standardized tests such as learned helplessness scale self-concept scale, fatigue severity scale and substance scale were used for data collection. Findings from the first hypothesis indicated that that self-concept clarity did not significantly predict psychoactive drug use and abuse among undergraduates of Benue State University, Makurdi. On the other hand, there was a significant relationship between learned helplessness and psychoactive drug use and abuse among undergraduates of Benue State University, Makurdi. In the same vein, there was a significant relationship between fatigue severity and psychoactive drug use and abuse among undergraduates of Benue State University, Makurdi. The result also indicated that there was significant joint relationship among self-concept clarity, learned helplessness, fatigue severity and psychoactive drug use and abuse among undergraduates of Benue State University, Makurdi. It was concluded that self-concept clarity, learned helplessness and fatigue severity have significant relationship with psychoactive drug use and abuse. It was recommended that students should not be pushed into situation that could lead them to learn to be helpless and as the same time too much stress should be avoided among students in order not to make them engage into drug use as a result of fatigue
An Alternative Method to Obtain the Quark Polarization of the Nucleon
An alternate method is described to extract the quark contribution to the
spin of the nucleon directly from the first moment of the deuteron structure
function, . It is obtained without recourse to the use of input on the
nucleon wave function from hyperon decays involving the flavor symmetry
parameters, F and D. The result for the quark polarization of the nucleon,
is in good agreement with the values of the singlet axial
current matrix element, , obtained from recent next-to-leading order
analyses of current proton, neutron and deuteron data.Comment: 7 pages, 1 figur
The X-ray invisible Universe. A look into the halos undetected by eROSITA
The paper presents the analysis of GAMA spectroscopic groups and clusters
detected and undetected in the SRG/eROSITA X-ray map of the eFEDS (eROSITA
Final Equatorial Depth Survey) area, in the halo mass range
and at . We compare the X-ray surface brightness profiles
of the eROSITA detected groups with the mean stacked profile of the undetected
low-mass halos. Overall, we find that the undetected groups exhibit less
concentrated X-ray surface brightness, dark matter, and galaxy distributions
with respect to the X-ray detected halos. Consistently with the low mass
concentration, the magnitude gap indicates that these are younger systems. The
later assembly time is confirmed by the bluer average color of the BCG and of
the galaxy population with respect to the detected systems. They reside with a
higher probability in filaments while X-ray detected low-mass halos favor the
nodes of the Cosmic Web. Because of the suppressed X-ray central emission, the
undetected systems tend to be X-ray under-luminous at fixed halo mass, and to
lie below the relation. Interestingly, the X-ray detected
systems inhabiting the nodes scatter the less around the relation, while those
in filaments tend to lie below it. We do not observe any strong relation
between the properties of detected and undetected systems with the AGN
activity. The fraction of optically selected AGN in the galaxy population is
consistent in the two samples. More interestingly, the probability that the BCG
hosts a radio AGN is lower in the undetected groups. We, thus, argue that the
observed differences between X-ray detected and undetected groups are
ascribable to the Cosmic Web, and its role in the halo assembly bias. Our
results suggest that the X-ray selection is biased to favor the most
concentrated and old systems located in the nodes of the Cosmic Web.Comment: 15 pages, 13 figures, Submitted to MNRA
The cross section minima in elastic Nd scattering: a ``smoking gun'' for three nucleon force effects
Neutron-deuteron elastic scattering cross sections are calculated at
different energies using modern nucleon-nucleon interactions and the
Tucson-Melbourne three-nucleon force adjusted to the triton binding energy.
Predictions based on NN forces only underestimate nucleon-deuteron data in the
minima at higher energies starting around 60 MeV. Adding the three-nucleon
forces fills up those minima and reduces the discrepancies significantly.Comment: 11 pages, 6 figure
Reaction mechanism and characteristics of T_{20} in d + ^3He backward elastic scattering at intermediate energies
For backward elastic scattering of deuterons by ^3He, cross sections \sigma
and tensor analyzing power T_{20} are measured at E_d=140-270 MeV. The data are
analyzed by the PWIA and by the general formula which includes virtual
excitations of other channels, with the assumption of the proton transfer from
^3He to the deuteron. Using ^3He wave functions calculated by the Faddeev
equation, the PWIA describes global features of the experimental data, while
the virtual excitation effects are important for quantitative fits to the
T_{20} data. Theoretical predictions on T_{20}, K_y^y (polarization transfer
coefficient) and C_{yy} (spin correlation coefficient) are provided up to GeV
energies.Comment: REVTEX+epsfig, 17 pages including 6 eps figs, to be published in

Bounds on the Higgs-Boson Mass in the Presence of Non-Standard Interactions
The triviality and vacuum stability bounds on the Higgs-boson mass are
revisited in the presence of new interactions parameterized in a
model-independent way by an effective lagrangian. When the scale of new physics
is below 50 TeV the triviality bound is unchanged but the stability lower bound
is increased by 40-60 GeV. Should the Higgs-boson mass be close to its current
lower experimental limit, this leads to the possibility of new physics at the
scale of a few TeV, even for modest values of the effective lagrangian
parameters.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figures, RevTex, submitted to PR
The STAR Time Projection Chamber: A Unique Tool for Studying High Multiplicity Events at RHIC
The STAR Time Projection Chamber (TPC) is used to record collisions at the
Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). The TPC is the central element in a
suite of detectors that surrounds the interaction vertex. The TPC provides
complete coverage around the beam-line, and provides complete tracking for
charged particles within +- 1.8 units of pseudo-rapidity of the center-of-mass
frame. Charged particles with momenta greater than 100 MeV/c are recorded.
Multiplicities in excess of 3,000 tracks per event are routinely reconstructed
in the software. The TPC measures 4 m in diameter by 4.2 m long, making it the
largest TPC in the world.Comment: 28 pages, 11 figure
Dielectron Cross Section Measurements in Nucleus-Nucleus Reactions at 1.0 A GeV
We present measured dielectron production cross sections for Ca+Ca, C+C,
He+Ca, and d+Ca reactions at 1.0 A GeV. Statistical uncertainties and
systematic effects are smaller than in previous DLS nucleus-nucleus data. For
pair mass < 0.35 GeV/c2 : 1) the Ca+Ca cross section is larger than the
previous DLS measurement and current model results, 2) the mass spectra suggest
large contributions from pi0 and eta Dalitz decays, and 3) dsigma/dM is
proportional to ApAt. For M > 0.5 GeV/c2 the Ca+Ca to C+C cross section ratio
is significantly larger than the ratio of ApAt values.Comment: Submitted to Physical Review Letters. Further analysis information
