    Possible Detection of Causality Violation in a Non-local Scalar Model

    We consider the possibility that there may be causality violation detectable at higher energies. We take a scalar nonlocal theory containing a mass scale Λ\Lambda as a model example and make a preliminary study of how the causality violation can be observed. We show how to formulate an observable whose detection would signal causality violation.     Bell inequalities for arbitrarily high dimensional systems

    We develop a novel approach to Bell inequalities based on a constraint that the correlations exhibited by local realistic theories must satisfy. This is used to construct a family of Bell inequalities for bipartite quantum systems of arbitrarily high dimensionality which are strongly resistant to noise. In particular our work gives an analytic description of numerical results of D. Kaszlikowski, P. Gnacinski, M. Zukowski, W. Miklaszewski, A. Zeilinger, Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 85}, 4418 (2000) and T.     Nonequilibrium Fock space for the electron transport problem

    Based on the formalism of thermo field dynamics we propose a concept of nonequilibrium Fock space and nonequilibrium quasiparticles for quantum many-body system in nonequilibrium steady state. We develop a general theory as well as demonstrate the utility of the approach on the example of electron transport through the interacting region. The proposed approach is compatible with advanced methods of electronic structure calculations such as coupled cluster theory and configuration interaction

    Slow solitary waves in multi-layered magnetic structures

    The propagation of slow sausage surface waves in a multi-layered magnetic configuration is considered. The magnetic configuration consists of a central magnetic slab sandwiched between two identical magnetic slabs (with equilibrium quantities different from those in the central slab) which in turn are embedded between two identical semi-infinite regions. The dispersion equation is obtained in the linear approximation. The nonlinear governing equation describing waves with a characteristic wavelength along the central slab much larger than the slab thickness is derived. Solitary wave solutions to this equation are obtained in the case where these solutions deviate only slightly from the algebraic soliton of the Benjamin-Ono equation

    Persistence of a Brownian particle in a Time Dependent Potential

    We investigate the persistence probability of a Brownian particle in a harmonic potential, which decays to zero at long times -- leading to an unbounded motion of the Brownian particle. We consider two functional forms for the decay of the confinement, an exponential and an algebraic decay. Analytical calculations and numerical simulations show, that for the case of the exponential relaxation, the dynamics of Brownian particle at short and long times are independent of the parameters of the relaxation. On the contrary, for the algebraic decay of the confinement, the dynamics at long times is determined by the exponent of the decay. Finally, using the two-time correlation function for the position of the Brownian particle, we construct the persistence probability for the Brownian walker in such a scenario.Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures, Accepted for publication in Phys.     Shot noise of the edge transport in the inverted band HgTe quantum wells

    We investigate the current noise in HgTe-based quantum wells with an inverted band structure in the regime of disordered edge transport. Consistent with previous experiments, the edge resistance strongly exceeds h/e2h/e^2 and weakly depends on the temperature. The shot noise is well below the Poissonian value and characterized by the Fano factor with gate voltage and sample to sample variations in the range 0.1<F<0.30.1<F<0.3. Given the fact that our devices are shorter than the most pessimistic estimate of the ballistic dephasing length, these observations exclude the possibility of one-dimensional helical edge transport. Instead, we suggest that a disordered multi-mode conduction is responsible for the edge transport in our experiment.Comment: added Ref, minor corrections, as publishe
