Search for Low Mass Exotic mesonic structures. Part I: experimental results
Recently, several papers discussed on the existence of a low mass new
structure at a mass close to M=214.3 MeV. It was suggested that the
disintegration: pP, P
proceeds through an intermediate particle P having such mass. The present
work intends to look at other new or available data, in order to observe the
eventual existence of small narrow peaks or shoulders in very low mesonic
masses. Indeed narrow structures were already extracted from various data in
dibaryons, baryons and mesons (at larger masses that those studied here).Comment: 7 pages 11 figure
Pionic Atom Spectroscopy in the (d,3He) reaction at finite angles
We study the formation of deeply bound pionic atoms in the (d,3He) reactions
theoretically and show the energy spectra of the emitted 3He at finite angles,
which are expected to be observed experimentally. We find that the different
combinations of the pion-bound and neutron-hole states dominate the spectra at
different scattering angles because of the matching condition of the reaction.
We conclude that the observation of the (d,3He) reaction at finite angles will
provide the systematic information of the pionic bound states in each nucleus
and will help to develop the study of the pion properties and the partial
restoration of chiral symmetry in nuclei.Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures, 1 tabl
Measurement of p + d -> 3He + eta in S(11) Resonance
We have measured the reaction p + d -> 3He + eta at a proton beam energy of
980 MeV, which is 88.5 MeV above threshold using the new ``germanium wall''
detector system. A missing--mass resolution of the detector system of 2.6% was
achieved. The angular distribution of the meson is forward peaked. We found a
total cross section of (573 +- 83(stat.) +- 69(syst.))nb. The excitation
function for the present reaction is described by a Breit Wigner form with
parameters from photoproduction.Comment: 8 pages, 2 figures, corrected typos in heade
Positive pion absorption on 3He using modern trinucleon wave functions
We study pion absorption on 3He employing trinucleon wave functions
calculated from modern realistic NN interactions (Paris, CD Bonn). Even though
the use of the new wave functions leads to a significant improvement over older
calculations with regard to both cross section and polarization data, there are
hints that polarization data with quasifree kinematics cannot be described by
just two-nucleon absorption mechanisms.Comment: 14 pages, 6 figure
New results on the pd --> 3He eta production near threshold
Measurements on the eta meson production in proton-deuteron collisions have
been performed using the COSY-11 facility at COSY Juelich. Here we present
preliminary results on total and differential cross sections for the pd --> 3He
eta reaction at five excess energies between Q = 5.1 and Q = 40.6 MeV. The
obtained angular distributions for the emitted eta mesons in the center of mass
system expose a transition from an almost isotropic emission to a highly
anisotropic distribution. The extracted total cross sections support a strong
eta-3He final state interaction and will be compared with model predictions.Comment: Presented at MESON 2004: 8th International Workshop on Meson

Meson Production in p+d Reactions
The production of neutral and charged pions as well as eta mesons is studied
in the Delta and N* resonance region, respectively. Heavy A=3 recoils were
measured with the GEM detector. The differential cross sections covering the
full angular range are compared with model calculations.Comment: 4 pages, latex, 4 figures, talk presented at the XVIIth European

Cross section of the reaction close to threshold
We have measured inclusive data on -meson production in collisions
at COSY J\"ulich close to the hyperon production threshold and determined the
hyperon-nucleon invariant mass spectra. The spectra were decomposed into three
parts: , and . The cross section for the
channel was found to be much smaller than a previous measurement in
that excess energy region. The data together with previous results at higher
energies are compatible with a phase space dependence.Comment: accepted by Phys. lett. B some typos correcte
Production of eta and 3pi mesons in the pd->3HeX reaction at 1360 and 1450 MeV
The cross sections of the pd -> 3He eta, pd -> 3He pi0 pi0 pi0 and pd -> 3He
pi+ pi- pi0 reactions have been measured at beam kinetic energies T_p= 1360 MeV
and T_p= 1450 MeV using the CELSIUS/WASA detector setup. At both energies, the
differential cross section dsigma/dOmega of the eta meson in the pd -> 3He eta
reaction shows a strong forward-backward asymmetry in the CMS. The ratio
between the pd -> 3He pi+ pi- pi0 and the pd -> 3He pi0 pi0 pi0 cross sections
has been analysed in terms of isospin amplitudes. The reconstructed invariant
mass distributions of the pi-pi, 3He-pi and 3He-2pi systems provide hints on
the role of nucleon resonances in the 3pi production process.Comment: Shorter version accepted to EPJA 10 pages 14 figure
