An introduction to the interim digital SAR processor and the characteristics of the associated Seasat SAR imagery

    Get PDF
Basic engineering data regarding the Interim Digital SAR Processor (IDP) and the digitally correlated Seasat synthetic aperature radar (SAR) imagery are presented. The correlation function and IDP hardware/software configuration are described, and a preliminary performance assessment presented. The geometric and radiometric characteristics, with special emphasis on those peculiar to the IDP produced imagery, are described

Secondary Legal Sources: A Selected Subject Bibliography of Treatises, Looseleaf Services and Form Books Fourth Edition

The fourth edition of this bibliography is a subject arrangement of selected English language treatises, looseleaf services and form books. Most all of the works listed were published in this country and all are in the collection of this law library. Our object in revising this bibliography has been to present to the law students of The University of Michigan a reasonably thorough listing of useful and current secondary sources covering dorr1estic and international Jaw. The inclusion of a work in this bibliography does not mean that the Law Library is endorsing either the author\u27s style or the substance of his work. It does mean that we believe the work to be useful in the research of our patrons. While this bibliography is by no means exhaustive in its coverage of secondary sources on any subject, it does identify most of the major works in a given area. Thus, it can best be used as a starting point for legal research. It is not, however, a substitute for the card catalog which must be consulted during any serious research effort. In selecting titles for inclusion in the bibliography and in removing titles that had been in the third Edition, we have been guided by a consideration of the currency of the material. The materials listed deal with the law in its current state. Other than indirectly, this bibliography is not designed to support retrospective research. We have indicated by use of the term current those treatises which have been kept up to date by some sort of supplementation. Obviously, depending upon the subject, texts become dated at widely different intervals. Therefore, in including or deleting titles, we have looked to changes in the law, as well as to the date of publication. We have made only one major \u27\u27structural change in this edition of the bibliography. We have taken the former subject headings civil procedure and practice and procedure and combined them in a new heading civil practice and procedure . We think that this will make it easier to find the full range of material on this subject. A final word on the content of the bibliography is in order. As in past editions, we have attempted to exclude works which are more polemical than expository. We have also excluded casebooks and popular works on the law which, while possibly helpful to laymen, would be of limited use to the law student. We have, again, not included books concerned with law reform, criticism of legal institutions or the social science aspects of law, except for those dealing with the sociology of law. Nor have we included works dealing with the law of\u27 a single region or state. Finally, we have not included reference works, such as general form books and encyclopedias, which cover a vast expanse of legal knowledge. On the other hand, listed books that deal with more than one subject are placed under all appropriate subject headings This bibliography is current as of July 1, 1980. Finally, much thanks is due to Phyllis Rosenstock for her patience, endurance, skill and good humor in typing this bibliography

Medical Management of Growth Hormone-Secreting Pituitary Adenomas

The primary treatment of acromegaly remains transsphenoidal adenomectomy, yet the tissue overgrowth of acromegaly often progresses following surgery, and responds to radiotherapy only after significant delay. Persistently elevated serum growth hormone (GH) and insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) concentrations can be normalized in about half of post-surgery acromegalics using the pharmacologic alternatives presently available, the dopamine agonists (DA) and somatostatin (SST) analogs. Cabergoline, the most efficacious DA, normalizes IGF-I in approximately 37% of patients, whereas the long-acting SST analogs, Octreotide LAR and Lanreotide SR, do so in 66%. Significant tumor shrinkage may be attained with SST analogs in particular, and when necessary, the primary medical treatment of acromegaly may be successfully addressed with this class of drugs. Greatly enhanced efficacy is expected from the GH receptor antagonist pegvisomant, which is nearing market availability and will enable the normalization of serum IGF-I in virtually all patients treated. We review here the pharmacologic treatments of excessive GH secretion.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/47513/1/11102_2004_Article_5115783.pd

POGs/PlantRBP: a resource for comparative genomics in plants

    Get PDF
POGs/PlantRBP () is a relational database that integrates data from rice, Arabidopsis, and maize by placing the complete Arabidopsis and rice proteomes and available maize sequences into ‘putative orthologous groups’ (POGs). Annotation efforts will focus on predicted RNA binding proteins (RBPs): i.e. those with known RNA binding domains or otherwise implicated in RNA function. POGs form the heart of the database, and were assigned using a mutual-best-hit-strategy after performing BLAST comparisons of the predicted Arabidopsis and rice proteomes. Each POG entry includes orthologs in Arabidopsis and rice, annotated with domain organization, gene models, phylogenetic trees, and multiple intracellular targeting predictions. A graphical display maps maize sequences on to their most similar rice gene model. The database can be queried using any combination of gene name, accession, domain, and predicted intracellular location, or using BLAST. Useful features of the database include the ability to search for proteins with both a specified domain content and intracellular location, the concurrent display of mutual best hits and phylogenetic trees which facilitates evaluation of POG assignments, the association of maize sequences with POGs, and the display of targeting predictions and domain organization for all POG members, which reveals consistency, or lack thereof, of those predictions

Tropical tele-connections to the Mediterranean climate and weather

    Get PDF
Some strong natural fluctuations of climate in the Eastern Mediterranean (EM) region are shown to be connected to the major tropical systems. Potential relations between EM rainfall extremes to tropical systems, e.g. El Niño, Indian Monsoon and hurricanes, are demonstrated. For a specific event, high resolution modelling of the severe flood on 3-5 December 2001 in Israel suggests a relation to hurricane Olga. In order to understand the factors governing the EM climate variability in the summer season, the relationship between extreme summer temperatures and the Indian Monsoon was examined. Other tropical factors like the Red-Sea Trough system and the Saharan dust are also likely to contribute to the EM climate variability
