In one variable our result generalizes a classical inequality of Mahler. In MM variables our result depends on ZM\mathbb{Z}^M as an ordered group, and in general our lower bound depends on the choice of ordering

    Lower bounds for heights in relative Galois extensions

    The goal of this paper is to obtain lower bounds on the height of an algebraic number in a relative setting, extending previous work of Amoroso and Masser. Specifically, in our first theorem, we obtain an effective bound for the height of an algebraic number α\alpha when the base field K\mathbb{K} is a number field and K(α)/K\mathbb{K}(\alpha)/\mathbb{K} is Galois. Our second result establishes an explicit height bound for any nonzero element α\alpha which is not a root of unity in a Galois extension F/K\mathbb{F}/\mathbb{K}, depending on the degree of K/Q\mathbb{K}/\mathbb{Q} and the number of conjugates of α\alpha which are multiplicatively independent over K\mathbb{K}. As a consequence, we obtain a height bound for such α\alpha that is independent of the multiplicative independence condition

    Infertility in iranian traditional medicine from Hakim Mohammad Azam Khan point of view

    Introduction: Fertility and having healthy child is one of the valuable indexes in people's health. Incidence of infertility in the world has a treatment economic load and also causes significant psychiatric complications for the infertile couples and threats the health of family. Given the importance of the issue, attention to complementary medicine and use of Iranian traditional medicine can be useful and helpful. This study was performed with aim to evaluate the causes of infertility from Iranian traditional Medicine (ITM) point of view according to the valuable Exir book of Hakim Mohammad Azam Khan. Methods: This study was performed as library based on reference availabe and reliable books of traditional medicine such as law in medicine, store of Kharazmshahi, Aghili's Kholasah al-Hekmah and Moalejat with a focus on Azam Exir, and finally, what Hakim Azam Khan explained about the causes of infertility was stated. Results: Iranian medicine Hokama have suggested various reasons as the causes of infertility in men and women, separately, and stated different treatment methods such as single plants, combined drugs and method performed manually including bloodletting, cupping, and massage, and at the end of the treatment method in food section explained the type of food that is useful for disease. They divided causes of infertility into two groups of male and female factors and emphasized on the existence of semen in men and women and the role of each one in fertility. Sufficient production of semen in males and ovum in females depends on the health of body's main and vital members (including the heart, brain and liver). They reported fertility was possible through the health of genital system and production of reproductive semen in both and simultaneous orgasm of man and woman when having sex. Conclusion: According to the careful viewpoint of Hakim Azam Khan in explaining the causes of infertility and accurately classifying them, as well as description of how to diagnose and treatment courses of each of the infertility causes, it seems that today by relying on their views on empirical research, we can achieve more effective treatments for infertility. © 2015 - Journal Management System

    The influence of Neanderthal alleles on cytotoxic response

    Various studies have shown that people of Eurasian origin contain traces of DNA inherited from interbreeding with Neanderthals. Recent studies have demonstrated that these Neanderthal variants influence a range of clinically important traits and diseases. Thus, understanding the genetic factors responsible for the variability in individual response to drug or chemical exposure is a key goal of pharmacogenomics and toxicogenomics, as dose responses are clinically and epidemiologically important traits. It is well established that ethnic and racial differences are important in dose response traits, but to our knowledge the influence of Neanderthal ancestry on response to xenobiotics is unknown. Towards this aim, we examined if Neanderthal ancestry plays a role in cytotoxic response to anti-cancer drugs and toxic environmental chemicals. We identified common Neanderthal variants in lymphoblastoid cell lines (LCLs) derived from the globally diverse 1000 Genomes Project and Caucasian cell lines from the Children’s Hospital of Oakland Research Institute. We analyzed the effects of these Neanderthal alleles on cytotoxic response to 29 anti-cancer drugs and 179 environmental chemicals at varying concentrations using genome-wide data. We identified and replicated single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) from these association results, including a SNP in the SNORD-113 cluster. Our results also show that the Neanderthal alleles cumulatively lead to increased sensitivity to both the anti-cancer drugs and the environmental chemicals. Our results demonstrate the influence of Neanderthal ancestry-informative markers on cytotoxic response. These results could be important in identifying biomarkers for personalized medicine or in dissecting the underlying etiology of dose response traits

    Large-scale magnetic fields from inflation due to a CPTCPT-even Chern-Simons-like term with Kalb-Ramond and scalar fields

    We investigate the generation of large-scale magnetic fields due to the breaking of the conformal invariance in the electromagnetic field through the CPTCPT-even dimension-six Chern-Simons-like effective interaction with a fermion current by taking account of the dynamical Kalb-Ramond and scalar fields in inflationary cosmology. It is explicitly demonstrated that the magnetic fields on 1Mpc scale with the field strength of 109\sim 10^{-9}G at the present time can be induced.Comment: 18 pages, 6 figures, version accepted for publication in Eur.
