Introduction: This is a case report of 45 year old male who stepped into our OPD with complaints of dizziness during walking and heaviness of head since 7 months. The subject was not a known case of hypertension, diabetes mellitus, stroke or any cardiac problems. The Pure Tone Eudiometry results showed bilateral mild sensory neural hearing loss. But the subject had no symptoms of Tinnitus to be included in the vicinity of Meniere's disease. The Dix-Hallpike test was positive for left ear and confirmed the diagnosis as left posterior canal Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (PC-BPPV). Materials and Methods: The subject who approached Shalakya Tantra OPD of GAMC, with symptoms of dizziness, was systematically reviewed and intervention was planned for Doshic components involved in Bhrama. Results: The subject showed considerable improvement subjectively as shown by Dizziness Handicap Inventory (DHI) score. Discussion: The repositional maneuvers prescribed in the BPPV, though effective in most of the cases, recurrence is noted in one third of the patients. This study sheds light on holistic treatments like Shirodhara told in the Ayurveda classics that could be integrated with the maneuvers thereby improving the quality of life with no potential risk of side effects

Background: Otalgia or ear ache is a symptom which will hamper the daily activities of individual, and a cause of unease or discomfort. Even today there is no specific permanent remedy to this condition in advance modern medical system despite of some Otogesics which will only mask the pain. The common over the Counter medicines available on medical stores are having side effects on continuous usage. So there is a need for safe Ayurvedic medicine which can act better like modern analgesics but fewer side effects. Methodology: In this Case study, Agastya Haritaki Avaleha, Dashamoola Katutraya Kashaya and Capsule Grab, internally and Haridradi Karnadhoopana and Anu Taila Nasya as Sthanika Chikitsa were tried on patient of otalgia with ASOM (Kaphaja Karnashoola) Patient was treated in 2 stages. Observations: It was observed in the present study that in stage 1 there was 50% improvement as compared to stage 2 which showed better results in reducing the symptoms of Otalgia with ASOM. Re-occurrence of symptoms were merely less in stage 2 as compared to stage 1 Conclusion: There is a false assumption that Ayurvedic medicines are slow acting and allopathic medicines are desperately used for pain management and acute conditions. But this study throwing a light to substantiate that, Ayurvedic medicines are potent enough to manage acute otalgia also, just like Otogesics in Modern Medical Science. The study revealed that the re-occurrence rate of symptoms was very less in patients who used Agastya Haritaki Avaleha, Dashamoola Katutraya Kashaya and grab along with Haridradi Karnadhoopana and Anu Taila

Psoriasis is one among the most common clinical conditions encountered in day today clinical practice. Eka-Kushtha has greater resemblance with Psoriasis. The clinical features of Eka-Kushtha mentioned by Acharya Kashyapa represent remission, relapse and seasonal variation which are present in Psoriasis. Current treatment modalities have their own limitation and side effects, so significant result can’t be expected. There is a need for safe and effective treatment for psoriasis, where Ayurveda plays an important role. The basic principles and unique treatment modalities of Ayurveda i.e. Shodhana, Shamana etc. have long lasting results and provide better life to patients. A male patient aged 28 years reported to our department OPD, with signs and symptoms of Eka-Kushtha since 1 years, as small round erythematous scaly patches over groin, face, both the hands and legs with burning sensation, itching and dryness over affected lesion. Patient was treated with Shodhana in the form of Virechana Karma followed by oral medication. The patient reported symptomatic improvement

Pain is one of the chief factors to visit a doctor. In today’s scenario low back pain is one among the emerging pains faced by 90% of population in their lifetime. Low back pain presents with different symptoms among them, the one with radiating to lower extremities unilaterally or bilaterally is termed as Gridhrasi. Gridhrasi is Shoola Pradhana Nanatamaja Vatavyadhi. The gait of a person resembles with that of Gridhra or Vulture. The condition presents with Ruk, Toda, Stambha, Spandana in Sphik Pradesha and radiates downwards to Kati, Prusta, Uru, Janu, Jangha, and Pada causing Sakthishepanigraha. Vata-Kaphaja type of Gridhrasi involves above symptoms along with Tandra, Gaurava, Arochaka, Bhaktadvesha, Staimitya. Gridhrasi can be compared with Sciatica. Vaitarana Basti is effective in Vata-Kaphaja Vikara’s as well as Shoola Chikitsa. Hence in the case study a male patient of age 28 years presenting with signs and symptoms of Gridhrasi was treated especially focused on acute pain management

According to Ayurveda, Vata is responsible for formation of all body parts. Vayu is said to be Sarva Dhatu Vyuhakara and Kartagarbhakritam. It means that Vayu is responsible for the regular function and amount of Dhatus in body. In Ayurveda there is no direct reference of keratoconus, based on the symptoms it can be considered as Vataja Timira. This can be correlated to advanced condition of keratoconus, considering Dosha involvement Vatahara and Bruhmana line of treatment in the form of Nasya, Tarpana and Pindi is more beneficial in keratoconus

    Get PDF
Objective: The primary goal of this study was to convert a natural catechin-rich extract into nanoparticles by using a biodegradable and non-toxic polymer Eudragit L 100 to address the various biopharmaceutical problems of catechin. Methods: Nanoparticles were prepared by emulsion solvent evaporation technique using Eudragit L 100 in increasing concentration. Optimization of processing conditions like a selection of organic solvents, diluent and surfactant concentrations, drug and polymer ratio and method of drying to increase the biological efficiency were duly attempted. Parameters such as dynamic light scattering, zeta potential, SEM and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy were assessed for the evaluation of nanoparticles. Results: The entrapment efficiency was found to be between 35-45 % with methanol compared to other organic solvents. The zeta potential values of all the formulations were in the range of±30 mV to±60 mV) which confirms moderate to good stability. A rapid or ‘burst' effect of the drug release in pH 6.8 buffer showing 92 % in the first 30 min which gradually decreased to 52 % by the end of 180 min but in the pH 7.4, the release was found to be moderate. SEM and DLS indicated particles were of spherical shape lying in a nanometer range of 100 to 200 nm with a proportional influence of polymer on the particles size. Conclusion: Nanoformulations were found to be more stable and confirmed the presence of major elements such as carbon and oxygen. The findings collectively indicate that it may be worthwhile to apply nanotechnology for the design of an advanced oral dosage form for an enhanced bioavailability and biological efficacy
