state generation of three Josephson qubits in presence of bosonic baths
We analyze an entangling protocol to generate tripartite
Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states in a system consisting of three
superconducting qubits with pairwise coupling. The dynamics of the open quantum
system is investigated by taking into account the interaction of each qubit
with an independent bosonic bath with an ohmic spectral structure. To this end
a microscopic master equation is constructed and exactly solved. We find that
the protocol here discussed is stable against decoherence and dissipation due
to the presence of the external baths.Comment: 16 pages and 4 figure
Dynamical Behavior of a Squid Ring Coupled to a Quantized Electromagnetic Field
In this paper we investigate the dynamical behavior of a SQUID ring coupled
to a quantized single-mode electromagnetic field. We have calculated the
eigenstates of the combined fully quantum mechanical SQUID-field system.
Interesting phenomena occur when the energy difference between the usual
symmetric and anti-symmetric SQUID states equals the field energy . We find the
low-energy lying entangled stationary states of the system and demonstrate that
its dynamics is dominated by coherent Rabi oscillations.Comment: 6 pages, 2 figures. to be published on International Journal of

Resonant effects in a SQUID qubit subjected to non adiabatic changes
By quickly modifying the shape of the effective potential of a double SQUID
flux qubit from a single-well to a double-well condition, we experimentally
observe an anomalous behavior, namely an alternance of resonance peaks, in the
probability to find the qubit in a given flux state. The occurrence of
Landau-Zener transitions as well as resonant tunneling between degenerate
levels in the two wells may be invoked to partially justify the experimental
results. A quantum simulation of the time evolution of the system indeed
suggests that the observed anomalous behavior can be imputable to quantum
coherence effects. The interplay among all these mechanisms has a practical
implication for quantum computing purposes, giving a direct measurement of the
limits on the sweeping rates possible for a correct manipulation of the qubit
state by means of fast flux pulses, avoiding transitions to non-computational
states.Comment: 6 pages and 6 figures. The paper, as it is, has been accepted for

Dissipation and entanglement dynamics for two interacting qubits coupled to independent reservoirs
We derive the master equation of a system of two coupled qubits by taking
into account their interaction with two independent bosonic baths. Important
features of the dynamics are brought to light, such as the structure of the
stationary state at general temperatures and the behaviour of the entanglement
at zero temperature, showing the phenomena of sudden death and sudden birth as
well as the presence of stationary entanglement for long times. The model here
presented is quite versatile and can be of interest in the study of both
Josephson junction architectures and cavity-QED.Comment: 14 pages, 3 figures, submitted to Journal of Physics A: Mathematical

Pfaffian representations of cubic surfaces
Let K be a field of characteristic zero. We describe an algorithm which
requires a homogeneous polynomial F of degree three in K[x_0,x_1,x_2,x_3] and a
zero A of F in P^3_K and ensures a linear pfaffian representation of V(F) with
entries in K[x_0,x_1,x_2,x_3], under mild assumptions on F and A. We use this
result to give an explicit construction of (and to prove the existence of) a
linear pfaffian representation of V(F), with entries in K'[x_0,x_1,x_2,x_3],
being K' an algebraic extension of K of degree at most six. An explicit example
of such a construction is given.Comment: 17 pages. Expanded with some remarks. Published with minor

Alexithymia in anorexia and bulimia: Ubiquitous and primary trait?
Background: Alexithymia is associated to Eating Disorders (ED) and relevant for their prognosis but it is uncertain if it is ubiquitous, primary, and necessary for ED outburst. Methods: 124 ED outpatients and 80 healthy controls were compared with the Toronto Alexithymia Scale, personality, and psychopathology measures. Alexithymia and the other features are compared between anorexia nervosa (AN), bulimia nervosa (BN) and control groups. Alexithymia-based clusters were explored and compared with controls. Alexithymia traits are correlated with the other features. Results: Difficulty in identifying feelings was ubiquitous in ED subjects. A Non-Alexithymic Cluster (NAC) and an Alexithymic Cluster (ALC) were found with no difference in AN/BN distribution. ALC displays disordered personality and high psychopathology. Self-directiveness and interoceptive awareness were independently related to alexithymia and to depressive feelings. These two features along with depressive features completely accounted for alexithymia variance. Conclusion: Even though the difficulty in identifying feelings is ubiquitous in ED subjects, Alexithymia may not represent a primary trait but a complex dysfunction consequent to co-occurring character immaturity, altered interoceptive awareness, and depressive traits
Radar array diagnosis from undersampled data using a compressed sensing/sparse recovery technique
A Compressed Sensing/Sparse Recovery approach is adopted in this paper for the accurate diagnosis of fault array elements from undersampled data. Experimental validations on a slotted waveguide test array are discussed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed procedure in the failures retrieval from a small set of measurements with respect to the number of radiating elements. Due to the sparsity feature of the proposed formulation, the method is particularly appealing for the diagnostics of large arrays, typically adopted for radar applications
Data‐driven integration of hippocampal CA1 synaptic physiology in silico
The anatomy and physiology of monosynaptic connections in rodent hippocampal CA1 have been extensively studied in recent decades. Yet, the resulting knowledge remains disparate and difficult to reconcile. Here, we present a data‐driven approach to integrate the current state‐of‐the‐art knowledge on the synaptic anatomy and physiology of rodent hippocampal CA1, including axo‐dendritic innervation patterns, number of synapses per connection, quantal conductances, neurotransmitter release probability, and short‐term plasticity into a single coherent resource. First, we undertook an extensive literature review of paired recordings of hippocampal neurons and compiled experimental data on their synaptic anatomy and physiology. The data collected in this manner is sparse and inhomogeneous due to the diversity of experimental techniques used by different groups, which necessitates the need for an integrative framework to unify these data. To this end, we extended a previously developed workflow for the neocortex to constrain a unifying in silico reconstruction of the synaptic physiology of CA1 connections. Our work identifies gaps in the existing knowledge and provides a complementary resource toward a more complete quantification of synaptic anatomy and physiology in the rodent hippocampal CA1 region
