Practices of Age-Friendly Cities in Turkey

It is predicted that the proportion of the elderly population in the total population will increase. Technological developments, social state development, and innovations in medical science have increased life expectancy. Central state institutions and local government organizations increase the services and expenditures for the elderly population as a requirement of the social state. The concept of an age-friendly city and its applications have gained importance since the 1980s. Municipalities closest to the public have to produce more services to create more suitable and less dangerous areas for elderly people. Municipalities should ensure the active participation of the elderly population in production and consumption activities. It is thus expected to provide services in the fields of education, infrastructure services, health, accessibility and sports. In recent years, the elderly population in developed countries is relatively higher compared to the total population. For this reason, it is usual for age-friendly cities to increase in number and services in developed countries. In this research, the concept of an age-friendly city will be explained in the context of the silver economy and active old age. The basic features of the age-friendly city will be explained. This paper analyses the services provided in selected cities in the world and Turkey in the context of an age-friendly city

Grain Corridor Agreement and Turkey’s Role in the Russia-Ukraine War

On the morning of February 24, 2022, when the Russian military entered Ukraine and launched air and missile raids on the targets it detected in the depths of this country, a war started in the east of Europe. As a result of the war between two of the world’s largest grain producers, a global grain crisis is taking place. Turkey has long sought to emphasize connectivity and strengthen its strategic position at the intercontinental crossroads between Europe and Asia. Functionally, Turkey serves as a vital transit corridor for key resources such as energy and food supplies, which becomes even more important given the economic and trade disruptions of Russia’s war in Ukraine. This study analyzed Turkey’s diplomatic efforts and policies during the war and the food deal process

Integrating process design and control: An application of optimal control to chemical processes

In this paper, the optimal design of process systems generically used in chemical industries is studied. The closely coupled nature of optimal design specification of the equipment, the determination of the optimal process parameters in steady-state, moreover, some issues of the application of optimal control is shown. The solution of the overall optimization problem including (i) optimal design of the equipment and (ii) specification of its optimal control strategy can be found relying on two different design concepts, namely, on the conventionally used sequential or, on the newly emerged simultaneous design approaches. This paper gives the theoretical background of the ideas and presents a comparative summary of the approaches. The two approaches are contrasted to each other in which the effects of the interaction of optimal process design and optimal control is highlighted. A new simultaneous optimization procedure providing economic and operability benefits over the traditional stand-alone approach is proposed. The applicability of the idea is demonstrated by means of a design study carried out for optimal design of a coaxial heat exchanger and a reactive distillation column for the synthesis of ethyl tert butyl ether (ETBE), relying on the benefits of the utilization of optimal control

Validation of the Short Version (TLS-15) of the Triangular Love Scale (TLS-45) Across 37 Languages

Love is a phenomenon that occurs across the world and affects many aspects of human life, including the choice of, and process of bonding with, a romantic partner. Thus, developing a reliable and valid measure of love experiences is crucial. One of the most popular tools to quantify love is Sternberg’s 45-item Triangular Love Scale (TLS-45), which measures three love components: intimacy, passion, and commitment. However, our literature review reveals that most studies (64%) use a broad variety of shortened versions of the TLS-45. Here, aiming to achieve scientific consensus and improve the reliability, comparability, and generalizability of results across studies, we developed a short version of the scale—the TLS-15—comprised of 15 items with 5-point, rather than 9-point, response scales. In Study 1 (N = 7,332), we re-analyzed secondary data from a large-scale multinational study that validated the original TLS-45 to establish whether the scale could be truncated. In Study 2 (N = 307), we provided evidence for the three-factor structure of the TLS-15 and its reliability. Study 3 (N = 413) confirmed convergent validity and test–retest stability of the TLS-15. Study 4 (N = 60,311) presented a large-scale validation across 37 linguistic versions of the TLS-15 on a cross-cultural sample spanning every continent of the globe. The overall results provide support for the reliability, validity, and cross-cultural invariance of the TLS-15, which can be used as a measure of love components—either separately or jointly as a three-factor measure

After the Hegira of Hz. Mohammed (sav) to Medina it could be seen major developments in education system in addition to the other several areas. During the Rightlv-Guided Caliphs's period, especially the Omar one, the masjid and kuttaps has been playing a great role in fulfillment of this duty. Then, such an education services have been done by civilians or citizens at the Emevids period. They started to built the first education institutions called kuttaps almost in every Muslim cities including their whole districts. Also, they sent their child to them for education in the first sense. Further; the big masjids which are near the center of the city has played a university like role in most terms. Furthermore, the non-Muslims living in the Muslim territory had the rights of educating or to educate their children and religious men with their own educational systems freely at this period. This point is so important in terms of freedom of non-Muslim in Muslim society as well. Moreover, the religious teachers' or alims' houses and their working offices have been used for education. Lastly, the schools giving philosophy, medical science and music education was active in different pari of the Muslim world, to

On the respective terms of the derived and the polycentral series of a free lie algebra and an ideal

Let F be a free Lie algebra of rank > 1 and S be an ideal of F. Denote by Fm and Fn1 …, nkthe terms of the lower central and the polycentral series of F. The aim of this paper is to provide a sufficient condition for the quotient algebra Fn1, …,nk/sn1, … nkto be infinitely generated. The case Fm/Sm was studied in [6] for free groups and in (2) for free Lie algebras. In this paper the following main theorem is proved: If F ? F2 + S, k ? 1 and ni > 1 for i=l,…,k, then Fn1, …,nk/sn1, … nk is infinitely generated. © 1992, Taylor & Francis Group, LLC. All rights reserved

Soil-particle and pore orientations during drained and undrained shear of a cohesive sandy silt-clay soil

The orientations of particles, pores, and other constituents of an artificially made cohesive sandy silt-clay soil were studied to investigate how they change during drained and undrained shear. The results show that the orientation pattern before shearing is nearly random, although there may be some degree of preferred orientation caused by the overburden pressure. The degree of preferred orientation increases as the shearing increases until failure in both the drained and undrained tests and increases towards the failure plane. After failure, the degree of preferred orientation does not change considerably near the failure plane but does continue to increase away from it. The number of oriented particles, pores, and other constituents increases, but their averages stay about the same as the shearing continues after failure in the drained tests. The differences between the degrees of preferred orientations 5 and 10 mm away from the failure planes at different shear (horizontal) displacements are much less in the drained tests than in the undrained tests, indicating formation of a wider deformation zone in the drained tests. This is probably because particles in the drained tests have enough time to respond to the applied shear stresses and change their orientation. This may explain why deformations occur in wide zones along tectonically active creeping (aseismic) faults, whose mechanisms are analogous to those of drained shear tests, and in narrow zones along seismic faults, whose mechanisms are analogous to those of undrained shear tests. © 2004 NRC
