The lateral relationships among the San Adrián, Canalón and Olaja members of the upper part of the Alba Fm. are discussed. These rocks are considered to be parts of a carbonate ramp developed from latest Viséan or early Pendleian to middle Arnsbergian times. The new name Millaró Beds is proposed herein for a thin interval of marine beds with middle-upper Arnsbergian ammonoids and conodonts, and laterally equivalent to part of the Olaja Mb. The Millaró Beds constitute the upper part of the Alba Fm. providing an additional criterion for the identification of the boundary between the Alba and Barcaliente formations at many sections across the Cantabrian Mountains. These beds represent sedimentation in a starved basin and a transgresive event at the beginning of the Variscan foredeep formation. This basin was subsequently filled by the siliciclastic rocks of the Cuevas Fm. and the marginal carbonates of the Barcaliente Fm. The review of both published and new conodont data are applied to the recognition of different stages around the Mississippian/Pennsylvanian boundary. Finally, the distribution of conodont genera in the upper Arnsbergian to Kinderscoutian Barcaliente Fm is also given.Asturias (Comunidad Autónoma). Pronounced overlap of the larger LV over the RV ventrally, posteriorly and especially dorsally. Overlap slighter in the antero-dorsal part. Bow-shaped projection in ventral view. Hmax at 2/5 anterior; Lmax slightly dorsal; Wmax slightly anterior. Dorsal margin of the larger LV slightly convex, both anteriorly and posteriorly oblique. Dorsal margin of the smaller RV straighter in its middle part and also both anteriorly and posteriorly oblique. Ventral margin of the larger LV slightly convex, more arched at its extremities. Ventral margin of the smaller RV slightly concave in its middle part and convex at its extremities. Middle part of the ventral and dorsal margins almost parallel. Well rounded, regularly convex anterior and posterior margins. Anterior and posterior margins forming an angle of about 130° respectively with the anterior part and the posterior part of the dorsal margin. Sharp posterior end. Anterior part of the carapace clearly higher than the posterior one. Surface smooth.

Discussion. These specimens are too badly preserved to be identified at a species level without doubt. However, size, global outline and features of the carapace well remind B. siliklensis Rozhdestvenskaja, 1962. This species, whose features are a short hinge line, a pronounced overlap and a regular convexity of the dorsal margin, is sometimes confused in literature with B. plicatula Polenova, 1952. Mural pores have not been observed on the carapaces of our specimens due to bad preservation.

Occurrences. Middle Givetian (Candás Fm, mbs A, B and C), Asturias (Peran-Perlora section).

PLATE IV. XXV, fig. 7.

Material. 3 specimens (2 C, 1 F).

Description. Large elongated carapace, subtrapezoidal to subhexagonal in lateral view, biconvex in dorsal view. Overlap of the larger LV over the RV pronounced at least dorsally and slight ventrally. Bow-shaped projection in ventral view. Hmax at 1/3 posterior; Lmax at 1/3 dorsal; Wmax postero-dorsal. Dorsal margin regularly convex from posterior end to antero-ventral part and becoming slightly concave up to the anterior end. Ventral margin straight in its middle part, becoming convex at its extremities. Dorsal and ventral margins converging both posteriorly and anteriorly. Anterior margin slightly concave in its dorsal part to the Lmax point and, from this point, regularly convex in its ventral part. Anterior end forming an angle of about 120°. Carapace flattened along the anterior margin. Posterior margin convex, highly arched in its middle part, thus forming the posterior end of the carapace. Anterior part of the carapace wider than the posterior one. Surface smooth.

Discussion. These large Bairdia may remind B. siliklensis Rozhdestvenskaja, 1962 by the general outline of the carapace. Overlap of the larger LV over the RV along the whole outline. Bow-shaped projection in ventral view. Hmax at 2/5 anterior; Lmax at 1/3 ventral; Wmax median. Regularly convex dorsal margin, more arched in its posterior part. Clearly concave ventral margin. Ventral and dorsal margins almost parallel (carapace slightly slender posteriorly).
