Highly synchronized noise-driven oscillatory behavior of a FitzHugh-Nagumo ring with phase-repulsive coupling

We investigate a ring of NN FitzHugh--Nagumo elements coupled in \emph{phase-repulsive} fashion and submitted to a (subthreshold) common oscillatory signal and independent Gaussian white noises. This system can be regarded as a reduced version of the one studied in [Phys. Rev. E \textbf{64}, 041912 (2001)], although externally forced and submitted to noise. The noise-sustained synchronization of the system with the external signal is characterized.Comment: 7 pages, 15 figures, uses aipproc.cls, aip-6s.clo and aipxfm.sty. At the beginning of a post-conflict process with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) and with the concurrent implementation of mechanisms for transitional justice, including a truth commission, questions arise with respect to: the now fading bellicose past, responsibility for what occurred and, the social memory which has been constructed with respect to this conflictive reality. Obviously social memories independent of institutional ones exist. What has their Colombian trajectory been? Who participates? How do they relate inter se and with state institutions? This article traces the trajectory of Colombian memory development based on the author’s experiences both institutionally and as an analyst of the internal armed conflict

    The psychoanalists, guerrilla and memory

This article is presented as a reflection on the occasion of the launching of issue N° 4 of From Freud’s Garden magazine dedicated to the subject of “Memory, forgetfulness, forgiveness, revenge”. The author of the article points out how the psychoanalysts entered in an open dialogue, in this volume in particular, not only with history but with other social sciences not only to scrutinize the past but to decidedly confront the present, the subject of the war and the uncertainties of the postwar. In fact, in the presentation page, the editors point out as context of this thematic number on Memory, forgetfulness, forgiveness, revenge the growing worldwide interest on this chain of feelings and the urgency of Colombians to approach them in face of the “current negotiations with the paramilitaries”. For the author, history as a discipline does not seem so far as psychoanalysis. Both develop their own techniques and strategies to make visible what has been made invisible and to reestablish the sense of what has been excluded, suppressed or covered up. Thus, history as well as psychoanalysis certainly have a privileged relation with the past. Both disciplines occupy themselves of the selection of what is memorable and what must be forgotten on the light of certain conditions or requirements, since we know from “Funes el memorioso”, that an unlimited memoir leads to confusion and hinders conceptualization.

PB3D: A new code for edge 3-D ideal linear peeling-ballooning stability

A new numerical code PB3D (Peeling-Ballooning in 3-D) is presented. It implements and solves the intermediate-to-high-n ideal linear magnetohydrodynamic stability theory extended to full edge 3-D magnetic toroidal configurations in previous work [1]. The features that make PB3D unique are the assumptions on the perturbation structure through intermediate-to-high mode numbers n in general 3-D configurations, while allowing for displacement of the plasma edge. This makes PB3D capable of very e cient calculations of the full 3-D stability for the output of multiple equilibrium codes. As first verification, it is checked that results from the stability code MISHKA [2], which considers axisymmetric equilibrium configurations, are accurately reproduced, and these are then successfully extended to 3-D configurations, through comparison with COBRA [3], as well as using checks on physical consistency. The non-intuitive 3-D results presented serve as a tentative first proof of the capabilities of the code. This research was sponsored in part by DGICYT (Dirección General de Investigaciones Científicas y Tecnológicas) of Spain under Project No. ENE2015-6826

Three-dimensional linear peeling-ballooning theory in magnetic fusion devices

Ideal magnetohydrodynamics theory is extended to fully 3D magnetic configurations to investigate the linear stability of intermediate to high n peeling-ballooning modes, with n the toroidal mode number. These are thought to be important for the behavior of edge localized modes and for the limit of the size of the pedestal that governs the high confinement H-mode. The end point of the derivation is a set of coupled second order ordinary differential equations with appropriate boundary conditions that minimize the perturbed energy and that can be solved to find the growth rate of the perturbations. This theory allows of the evaluation of 3D effects on edge plasma stability in tokamaks such as those associated with the toroidal ripple due to the finite number of toroidal field coils, the application of external 3D fields for elm control, local modification of the magnetic field in the vicinity of ferromagnetic components such as the test blanket modules in ITER, etc. This research was sponsored in part by DGICYT (Dirección General de Investigaciones Científicas y Tecnológicas) of Spain under Project No. ENE2012-38620-C02-02 and also in part by Comunidad de Madrid Project No. S2009/ENE-1679.Publicad

CENTESIL: An independent Research Centre on Polysilicon

The tremendous expansion of the photovoltaic technology and its relative avidity for silicon is producing a dramatic change in the polysilicon industry structure, increasing the efforts to produce a low cost, high quality Solar Silicon. In this context, the Centro de Tecnología del Silicio Solar (CENTESIL) was founded in 2006 as a private-public partnership venture, and is currently building a 50 t/a pilot plant for silicon purification following the chlorosilane route. Although an advanced state of the art technology has been selected as first choice, the purpose is to be able to undertake developments in any topic that has the potential to reduce the cost effectively. Additionally, the project includes facilities for monocrystalline growth and wafering, and also the solar cell processing line of the Instituto de Energía Solar, so that it will cover the whole value chain from feedstock to solar cell

Efecto de un calentamiento con estiramientos estáticos y dinámicos sobre el salto horizontal y la capacidad para repetir esprint con cambio de dirección = Effect of warm-up with static and dynamic stretching on the horizontal jump and repeated sprint ability with changes of direction
