Rus, ME. The photocatalytic activity of TiO2 incorporated foam glass obtained from glass waste from household activities with CaCO3 waste from the marble industry samples was studied by evaluating their ability to degrade organic pollutants in aqueous solutions under the action of simulated solar radiation and using UV-VIS spectroscopy as a simple method to monitor dye concentrations over time. Organic dye has been selected as the reference substance for degradation experiments because the dyes are stable at high temperatures and light and are reported as a major source of pollution, especially for the aquatic environment generated by effluents, mostly in textile industry. Given the characteristics of glass foam combined with current requirements in environmental protection to develop smart materials to combat climate change caused by environmental pollution, this study aimed to expand the application potential of cellular glass by functionalizing it with a material with properties photocatalytic in order to degrade various pollutants in the atmosphere

Forecast of a quality indicator in academic activity using statistical methods

The paper presents the time evolution of an indicator for quality, which is related to self-evaluation of academic staff in technical faculties. The study is focused on two major issues that compose the academic activities: teaching and research activity on one side, and managerial activities on the other side. The aim of the study is to reveal the forecast of self-evaluation using statistical methods and to assess if possible, the minimum accepted value of the quality indicator

Photodegradation of rhodamine B by WO3/glass foam visible-light third generation photocatalyst

This work focused on the evaluation of the photocatalytic activity of the glass foam, a chemically and physical stable support, coated with WO3鈥搗isible-light photoactive compound for degradation of rhodamine B. In this way, the removal of the rhodamine B in aqueous solution by WO3/glass foam was compared with the removal of rhodamine B by uncoated glass foam during the experimental stages of the photocatalytic tests: adsorption and visible-light irradiation. The uncoated sample presented no photocatalytic activity, whereas WO3/glass foam removed approximately 33% of rhodamine B from aqueous solution. Physical and chemical characterization of the photocatalyst was carried out by 3D scanning microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDAX) coupled with scanning electrone microscopy (SEM)

Positioning study of driver's hands in certain areas of the steering wheel

The aim of this paper is to analyze driver's hands coordinates on the steering wheel for an optimal and safe driving experience. A good coordination of the driver's action on the controls is the result of a comfortable position that leads to an optimal reaction while driving. The presented study implies using a thermal imaging camera for analysing palms temperature changes in the contact area with the steering wheel. The resulting data shows that the optimal driving position of drivers' hands is 0掳 and 180掳 associating the steering wheel with and trigonometric circle

Experimental tests for foot pressure analysis during orthostatic position and gait

    No full text
Human body postural deviation during normal activities such as gait or orthostatic position can cause injuries. The paper presents an experimental study regarding the distribution of contact pressures during gait and orthostatic position, aiming to evaluate the load distribution between forefoot (FF) and rear-foot (RF), the projection of center of gravity and the support area variation while conducting stability metering and feet load distribution tests

The effect of germanium trapezoidal profile shape on the direct current (DC) current gain (尾F), cut-off frequency (fT) and maximum oscillation frequency (fMAX) of silicon-germanium (SiGe) hetero-junction bipolar transistors (HBTs) has been investigated. The energy balance (EB), hydrodynamic (HD) and drift-diffusion (DD) physical transport models in SILVACO technology computer aided design (T-CAD) simulator were used. It was found that the current gain values using energy balance model are higher than hydrodynamic and much higher than those corresponding to drift-diffusion. Moreover, decreasing the germanium gradient slope towards the collector side of the base enhances the maximum oscillation frequencies using HD and EB models whilst, they remain stable for DD model
