Universality in the off-equilibrium critical dynamics of the diluted Ising model
We study the off-equilibrium critical dynamics of the three dimensional
diluted Ising model. We compute the dynamical critical exponent and we show
that it is independent of the dilution only when we take into account the
scaling-corrections to the dynamics. Finally we will compare our results with

How long has NICE taken to produce Technology Appraisal guidance? A retrospective study to estimate predictors of time to guidance.
OBJECTIVES: To assess how long the UK's National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence's (NICE) Technology Appraisal Programme has taken to produce guidance and to determine independent predictors of time to guidance. DESIGN: Retrospective time to event (survival) analysis. SETTING: Technology Appraisal guidance produced by NICE. DATASOURCE: All appraisals referred to NICE by February 2010 were included, except those referred prior to 2001 and a number that were suspended. OUTCOME MEASURE: Duration from the start of an appraisal (when the scope document was released) until publication of guidance. RESULTS: Single Technology Appraisals (STAs) were published significantly faster than Multiple Technology Appraisals (MTAs) with median durations of 48.0 (IQR; 44.3-75.4) and 74.0 (IQR; 60.9-114.0) weeks, respectively (p <0.0001). Median time to publication exceeded published process timelines, even after adjusting for appeals. Results from the modelling suggest that STAs published guidance significantly faster than MTAs after adjusting for other covariates (by 36.2 weeks (95% CI -46.05 to -26.42 weeks)) and that appeals against provisional guidance significantly increased the time to publication (by 42.83 weeks (95% CI 35.50 to 50.17 weeks)). There was no evidence that STAs of cancer-related technologies took longer to complete compared with STAs of other technologies after adjusting for potentially confounding variables and only weak evidence suggesting that the time to produce guidance is increasing each year (by 1.40 weeks (95% CI -0.35 to 2.94 weeks)). CONCLUSIONS: The results from this study suggest that the STA process has resulted in significantly faster guidance compared with the MTA process irrespective of the topic, but that these gains are lost if appeals are made against provisional guidance. While NICE processes continue to evolve over time, a trade-off might be that decisions take longer but at present there is no evidence of a significant increase in duration
Feynman-Hellmann theorem for resonances and the quest for QCD exotica
The generalization of the Feynman-Hellmann theorem for resonance states in
quantum field theory is derived. On the basis of this theorem, a criterion is
proposed to study the possible exotic nature of certain hadronic states
emerging in QCD. It is shown that this proposal is supported by explicit
calculations in Chiral Perturbation Theory and by large- arguments.
Analyzing recent lattice data on the quark mass dependence in the pseudoscalar,
vector meson, baryon octet and baryon decuplet sectors, we conclude that, as
expected, these are predominately quark-model states, albeit the corrections

Off-Equilibrium Dynamics at Very Low Temperatures in 3d Spin Glasses
We present a high statistic systematic study of the overlap correlation
function well below the critical temperature in the three dimensional Gaussian
spin glass. The off-equilibrium correlation function has been studied
confirming the power law behavior for the dynamical correlation length. In
particular we have computed the dynamical critical exponent in a wide range
of temperatures, , obtaining a dependence in a
very good agreement with recent experiments. Moreover, we report a study of the
violation of the fluctuation-dissipation theorem for very low temperatures
and . All our numerical results avoid a droplet model

Ising spin glass transition in magnetic field out of mean-field
The spin-glass transition in external magnetic field is studied both in and
out of the limit of validity of mean-field theory on a diluted one dimensional
chain of Ising spins where exchange bonds occur with a probability decaying as
the inverse power of the distance. Varying the power in this long-range model
corresponds, in a one-to-one relationship, to change the dimension in
spin-glass short-range models. Evidence for a spin-glass transition in magnetic
field is found also for systems whose equivalent dimension is below the upper

Data reduction in the ITMS system through a data acquisition model with self-adaptive sampling rate
Long pulse or steady state operation of fusion experiments require data acquisition and processing systems that reduce the volume of data involved. The availability of self-adaptive sampling rate systems and the use of real-time lossless data compression techniques can help solve these problems. The former is important for continuous adaptation of sampling frequency for experimental requirements. The latter allows the maintenance of continuous digitization under limited memory conditions. This can be achieved by permanent transmission of compressed data to other systems. The compacted transfer ensures the use of minimum bandwidth. This paper presents an implementation based on intelligent test and measurement system (ITMS), a data acquisition system architecture with multiprocessing capabilities that permits it to adapt the system’s sampling frequency throughout the experiment. The sampling rate can be controlled depending on the experiment’s specific requirements by using an external dc voltage signal or by defining user events through software. The system takes advantage of the high processing capabilities of the ITMS platform to implement a data reduction mechanism based in lossless data compression algorithms which are themselves based in periodic deltas
