When do two planted graphs have the same cotransversal matroid?

Cotransversal matroids are a family of matroids that arise from planted graphs. We prove that two planted graphs give the same cotransversal matroid if and only if they can be obtained from each other by a series of local moves.Comment: 12 pages, 7 figures; expository change

Entities as topic labels: Improving topic interpretability and evaluability combining Entity Linking and Labeled LDA

In order to create a corpus exploration method providing topics that are easier to interpret than standard LDA topic models, here we propose combining two techniques called Entity linking and Labeled LDA. Our method identifies in an ontology a series of descriptive labels for each document in a corpus. Then it generates a specific topic for each label. Having a direct relation between topics and labels makes interpretation easier; using an ontology as background knowledge limits label ambiguity. As our topics are described with a limited number of clear-cut labels, they promote interpretability, and this may help quantitative evaluation. We illustrate the potential of the approach by applying it in order to define the most relevant topics addressed by each party in the European Parliament's fifth mandate (1999-2004).Comment: in Proceedings of Digital Humanities 2016, Krako

A revision of the neotropical genus Anahi Martínez (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Melolonthinae) with the description of two new species

Generalized off-equilibrium fluctuation-dissipation relations in random Ising systems

We show that the numerical method based on the off-equilibrium fluctuation-dissipation relation does work and is very useful and powerful in the study of disordered systems which show a very slow dynamics. We have verified that it gives the right information in the known cases (diluted ferromagnets and random field Ising model far from the critical point) and we used it to obtain more convincing results on the frozen phase of finite-dimensional spin glasses. Moreover we used it to study the Griffiths phase of the diluted and the random field Ising models.Comment: 20 pages, 10 figures, uses epsfig.sty. Determination of Soluble Sugars in Arabidopsis thaliana Leaves by Anion Exchange Chromatography

    Get PDF
Determination of soluble sugars is basic for the study of carbon metabolism in plants. Soluble sugar quantitation can be achieved by enzymatic methods implying different coupled reactions. Here we describe a simple method that allows rapid determination of the most abundant soluble sugars (glucose, fructose and sucrose) in Arabidopsis leaves by anion exchange chromatography. We have applied this method to study the levels of soluble sugars during the photoperiodic transition to flowering (Ortiz-Marchena et al., 2014).España, MINECO projects CSD2007-00057, BIO2008-02292, and BIO2011-28847-C02-00España, Junta de Andalucía P06-CVI-01450 and P08-AGR-0358

Vector boson fusion at multi-TeV muon colliders

High-energy lepton colliders with a centre-of-mass energy in the multi-TeV range are currently considered among the most challenging and far-reaching future accelerator projects. Studies performed so far have mostly focused on the reach for new phenomena in lepton-antilepton annihilation channels. In this work we observe that starting from collider energies of a few TeV, electroweak (EW) vector boson fusion/scattering (VBF) at lepton colliders becomes the dominant production mode for all Standard Model processes relevant to studying the EW sector. In many cases we find that this also holds for new physics. We quantify the size and the growth of VBF cross sections with collider energy for a number of SM and new physics processes. By considering luminosity scenarios achievable at a muon collider, we conclude that such a machine would effectively be a "high-luminosity weak boson collider," and subsequently offer a wide range of opportunities to precisely measure EW and Higgs coupling as well as to discover new particles.Comment: 58 pages, 17 figures, 9 tables.
