    Effects of Qijin granules on high glucose-induced proliferation, apoptosis and expression of nuclear factor- κB and MCP-1 in rat glomerular mesangial cells

    Purpose: To investigate the effects of Qijin granules on high glucose-induced proliferation and apoptosis in rat glomerular mesangial cells (MC).Methods: MC cells from rats were passaged and cultured, and randomly divided into control group (CNG), high glucose group (HGG), Western medicine group (WMG, high glucose + Benazepril + Gliquidone), and Qijin granules 1/2/3 group (high glucose + different doses of Qijin granules). Mesangial cells proliferation was measured using MTT assay. The NF-κB, MCP-1 and inflammatory factors in supernatant were determined by ELISA. Apoptosis rate and cell cycle were assessed by flow cytometry. The apoptosis-related TGF-β1/Smad signaling pathway-related protein expressions were measured by Western blot.Results: The A-value and early apoptosis rate, apoptosis rate and S-phase percentage, and protein expressions of NF-κB, MCP-1, IL-6, IL-2, TNF-ɑ, Bax, Cyt-C, caspase-3, TGF-β1, and p-Smad3 of MC cells in the HGG at 12 h, 24 h and 48 h were higher than those in the CNG. The above indices were lower in the WMG, and Qijin granules 1/2/3 groups than in the HGG. The Bcl-2, Smad7 protein expression level and the percentage of G1 and G2/M phase were lower in the HGG than in the CNG, and the above indeices were higher in the WMG and Qijin granules 1/2/3 group than in HGG.Conclusion: Qijin granules can dose-dependently inhibit high glucose-induced proliferation and apoptosis in rat MC cells, block the cell cycle and reduce inflammatory responses. This may be related to the regulation of NF-κB, MCP-1 and TGF-β1/Smad signaling pathways. These findings provide theoretical and experimental basis for the clinical treatment of early diabetic nephropathy

    The impact of the intensity of media use on potential tourists’ risk perception and travel protective behavioral intentions in COVID-19

    Introduction: In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, there is an increased need for potential travelers to gather information about their trips to mitigate perceived risks. This study aims to understand the relationship between the intensity of media use (both new and traditional), epidemic risk perception, and tourism protection behavior intention among potential tourists. Methods: A total of 491 valid questionnaires were collected in Shanghai, China. Factor analysis, path analysis, and effect analysis were conducted using SPSS and AMOS to examine the impact of different media types on epidemic risk perception and tourism protection behavior. Results: The findings indicate a positive association between new media use intensity and epidemic risk perception, as well as an intention to adopt safety-conscious tourism behaviors. In contrast, traditional media usage is inversely associated with risk perception but has no significant influence on protective behavior. The results also highlight the role of demographic factors, such as age, education level, occupation, and income, in modulating the relationship between media usage and risk perception. Discussion: The contrasting effects of new and traditional media suggest the need for a tailored approach in epidemic communication strategies. Public health officials should leverage new media to enhance risk perception and safety-oriented behaviors, while recognizing the role of traditional media in managing lower risk perceptions and assuaging panic. The study emphasizes the importance of personalized messaging based on demographic disparities in media usage and perception. The mediating role of risk perception in shaping protective behaviors offers insights for promoting adherence to safety protocols. Conclusion: This study contributes to a comprehensive understanding of media influences during health crises, emphasizing the responsibility of media platforms in transmitting accurate information. The findings call for a nuanced approach to epidemic communication, considering the strengths and weaknesses of different media types. Segmented and personalized messaging strategies can cater to demographic variations in media usage and perception. Enhancing risk perception through tailored messaging can promote protective behaviors and effectively manage public sentiment during health crises

    The Exact Solution of the SU(3) Hubbard Model

    The Bethe ansatz equations of the 1-D SU(3) Hubbard model are systematically derived by diagonalizing the inhomogeneous transfer matrix of the XXX model. We first derive the scattering matrix of the SU(3) Hubbard model through the coordinate Bethe ansatz method. Then, with the help quantum inverse scattering method we solve the nested transfer matrix and give the eigenvalues, the eigenvectors and the Bethe ansatz equations.     Doping and temperature dependence of electron spectrum and quasiparticle dispersion in doped bilayer cuprates

    Within the t-t'-J model, the electron spectrum and quasiparticle dispersion in doped bilayer cuprates in the normal state are discussed by considering the bilayer interaction. It is shown that the bilayer interaction splits the electron spectrum of doped bilayer cuprates into the bonding and antibonding components around the (π,0)(\pi,0) point. The differentiation between the bonding and antibonding components is essential, which leads to two main flat bands around the (π,0)(\pi,0) point below the Fermi energy. In analogy to the doped single layer cuprates, the lowest energy states in doped bilayer cuprates are located at the (π/2,π/2)(\pi/2,\pi/2) point. Our results also show that the striking behavior of the electronic structure in doped bilayer cuprates is intriguingly related to the bilayer interaction together with strong coupling between the electron quasiparticles and collective magnetic excitations.Comment: 9 pages, 4 figures, updated references, added figures and discussions, accepted for publication in Phys.     638-642During progressive chronic kidney disease, toxic substances known as uremic toxins accumulate in body fluids. Uremia toxin has been documented to be involved in most inflammatory reactions, and indoxyl-sulfate (IS) a major serum metabolite of uremia is a key player in this. The mechanism by which uremia toxin establishes it inflammatory activity is scarcely known; however, researchers believes that a clear understanding of this process can serve as a guide to combat the situation. The study was designed to investigate the role played by uremia toxin in intestinal inflammation. SW480 was used as cell lines for this study. Luciferase assay was used to detect the cell viability of different concentrations of IS. RT-qPCR was used to detect the effect of IS on the expression of inflammatory factors. The comet assay was used as a tool to detect DNA damage. Western blot was used to detect the phosphorylation level of ATM/NEMO/NF-kB protein. The IS of 0.09 nM was determined to be the best experimental concentration by luciferase assay. Result showed that IS promotes the expression of inflammatory factors TNF-α and IL-6. In addition, IS led to enhanced DNA damage in cells. IS promoted ATM phosphorylation leading to phosphorylation of NEMO to activate the NF-kB signalling pathway. In conclusion, uremia toxin facilitates inflammation in intestines by activating the ATM/NEMO/ NF-kB signalling pathway in human intestinal epithelial cells

    Integrability of the Heisenberg Chains with Boundary Impurities and Their Bethe Ansatz

    In this paper, we show the integrability of spin-1/2 XXZ Heisenberg chain with two arbitrary spin boundary Impurities. By using the fusion method, we generalize it to the spin-1 XXZ chain.
