Considering the current turbulent macroeconomic environment, the aim of this research is to explore the influence of innovation in tangible and intangible resource allocation. The literature underlines that organizations are facing a revolution in their business processes. As such, there is a need to understand the value of knowledge resources and to identify ways to manage them. This paper explores the field of resource allocation, namely dynamic capabilities, and highlights the importance of monitoring intangible resources. This research has three specific contributions. The first contribution provides a comprehensive picture of what has occurred in the field of tangible and intangible resource allocation, such as intellectual capital and its importance towards organizational performance. Secondly, it offers evidence about the actual need for performance measurement tools that foster intangible resource monitoring. Organizations devote special attention to market demands which consequently lead managers to adapt their strategies in areas concerning resource allocation. Given this importance, this research, comprising major innovative organizations in Portugal from diverse activity sectors, provides new insights and stresses the importance of tools to follow the overall performance of resource allocation. Managers of innovative organizations recognize the very powerful features of the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) in monitoring and linking strategic resources of both tangible and intangible natures. Thirdly, this research, with a view to enrich the field of intangible natures, points out some aspects for future research areas, bearing in mind the relevance of this research area confirmed by managers of the major innovative organizations. Thus, it provides prominent information for both academia and innovative organizations. This paper is financed by National Funds of the FCT – Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology within the project «UIDB/03182/2020

Ashbya gossypii riboflavin overproducing strains are highly susceptible to light-induced oxidative DNA damage

Microbiotec'17 - Congress of Microbiology and Biotechnology 2017Background The overproduction of riboflavin by Ashbya gossypii, which is one of the most distinctive traits of this filamentous hemiascomycete, is triggered by oxidative stress [1]. In turn, riboflavin is a strong photosensitizer that upon irradiation with light has been shown to generate reactive oxygen species (ROS) and induce oxidative DNA damage in mammalian cells [2-3]. Envisioning a better understanding of this A. gossypii trait, here we investigated whether riboflavin overproduction is associated with increased DNA damage. Organisational culture and balanced scorecard: An empirical study in Portugal

    Get PDF
This study aims to identify and characterize the culture of the largest exporters without the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) and with the BSC implemented. In addition, it confirms whether there are different characteristics in the type of organizational culture of the largest exporters without the BSC and with the BSC. To achieve this objective, data were collected through questionnaires sent to the 250 largest exporters in Portugal. Multivariate statistical techniques were used to validate the research hypotheses. This research shows that the Adhocracy (turbulent management) culture type prevails in organizations without BSC, while the Market (productivity) culture type prevails in organizations with BSC. The study is based on the characterization of the culture type of the organizations. This characterization is significant because organizational culture shapes and differentiates organizations’ actions, goal definitions, and strategic objectives, which can affect organizational performance. Although recent literature has addressed organizational culture and performance monitoring in isolation, not many studies have been found that link the topics of organizational culture, BSC, and performance

Digital influencers and online shopping: a methodological proposal

    Get PDF
Nowadays, with the constant development of the internet, individuals are increasingly taking an active part in the digital world: they view and share content and express their opinions. In social networks, online interaction is predominant. By sharing content, anonymous individuals gain visibility, reaching thousands of people and consequently gaining thousands of followers. These people are digital influencers. Through the content they publish on social networks, digital influencers are able to influence the purchase decision of their followers. In this article, we describe the methodological strategy that will be used to collect data to study the role of digital influencers in the online purchase decision of their followers. The research is quantitative in nature, and data will be collected through a questionnaire distributed on digital channels to the Portuguese population

Grouting as a mean for repairing earth constructions

    Get PDF
A good condition of the structural elements of an earth construction is essential for a good global structural behaviour. Therefore, the absence of major cracks is essential. Repairing cracks by using traditional techniques, involving the partial or the total reconstructions of the structural elements, constitutes a very intrusive solution that must, necessarily, be avoided in the case of historical earth constructions. Grouting constitutes an alternative and more practical solution for solving this problem. However, the design of the grouts for earth constructions demands the implementation of a methodical process that accounts both for the structural and durability demands of the construction. Previous works showed that the injection of mud grouts is a reliable and feasible solution. However, the knowledge developed is still very limited, hindering the further development of a methodology for designing mud grouts for earth constructions. Therefore, in this paper an initial methodology proposal for the design of mud grouts is presented and discussed. This results from an ongoing research that aims at the development of suitable grouts for earth constructions.Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT
