Circuit Electromechanics with a Non-Metallized Nanobeam
We have realized a nano-electromechanical hybrid system consisting of a
silicon nitride beam dielectrically coupled to a superconducting microwave
resonator. We characterize the sample by making use of the Duffing nonlinearity
of the strongly driven beam. In particular, we calibrate the amplitude spectrum
of the mechanical motion and determine the electromechanical vacuum coupling. A
high quality factor of 480,000 at a resonance frequency of 14 MHz is achieved
at 0.5 K. The experimentally determined electromechanical vacuum coupling of
11.5 mHz is quantitatively compared with finite element based model

In this paper, we present a multiaxial system for psychodynamic diagnosis, which has attained wide usage in Germany in the last 10 years. First we will discuss the 4 operationalized psychodynamic diagnostics (OPD) axes: illness experience and treatment assumptions, relationships, mental conflicts, and structure, then clinical applications will be outlined. Focus psychodynamic formulations can be employed both with inpatients and with outpatients. Studies show good reliability in a research context and acceptable reliability for clinical purposes. Validity will be separately summarized as content, criterion, and construct validity. Validity studies indicate good validity for the individual axes. Numerous studies on the OPD indicate areas of possible improvement, for example for clinical purposes the OPD should be more practically formulated
Conservation laws in the continuum systems
We study the conservation laws of both the classical and the quantum
mechanical continuum type systems. For the classical case, we introduce
new integrals of motion along the recent ideas of Shastry and Sutherland (SS),
supplementing the usual integrals of motion constructed much earlier by Moser.
We show by explicit construction that one set of integrals can be related
algebraically to the other. The difference of these two sets of integrals then
gives rise to yet another complete set of integrals of motion. For the quantum
case, we first need to resum the integrals proposed by Calogero, Marchioro and
Ragnisco. We give a diagrammatic construction scheme for these new integrals,
which are the quantum analogues of the classical traces. Again we show that
there is a relationship between these new integrals and the quantum integrals

Flipper-bands on penguins: what is the cost of a life-long commitment?
The individual marking of flying and flightless birds has a long history in ornithology. It is
the only technique which is cheap, simple and effective, yielding results on bird migration, age-specific annual survival and recruitment. Consequently, hundreds of thousands of birds are annually ringed worldwide. Unfortunately, researchers all too often tend to neglect problems associated with rings and tags. In Antarctic penguins, flipper bands have been used extensively by a variety of nations, and banding is an integral part of the Council for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources' (CCAMLR) monitoring programme (Standard method A4). This programme suggests that mortality in penguins wearing bands can be attributed to either (a) prey species availability, (b) predation, (c) weather conditions or (d) other. In this paper, we have attempted to quantify energetic costs associated
with wearing a flipper band. For that purpose, freshly caught Adelie penguins (n = 7) were introduced, in Antarctica, into a 21 m long still-water tunnel, where their behaviour and energy consumption were determined via observation and gas respirometry. Birds were either immediately marked with a flipper band and tested in the tunnel for ca 2 h, and then taken out and tested again after removal of the band, or vice-versa. Flipper bands significantly (ANOVA, p = 0.006) increased the power input of Adelie penguins during swimming by 24 % over the speed range of 1.4 to 2.2 m S-', from 17 W
kg-' to 21.1 W kg-' (n = 115 and 157 measurements, respectively). The implications of banding on foraging performance and sunival of penguins are discussed. Implantable passive transponders could help overcome such problems
Tunable coupling engineering between superconducting resonators: from sidebands to effective gauge fields
In this work we show that a tunable coupling between microwave resonators can
be engineered by means of simple Josephson junctions circuits, such as dc- and
rf-SQUIDs. We show that by controlling the time dependence of the coupling it
is possible to switch on and off and modulate the cross-talk, boost the
interaction towards the ultrastrong regime, as well as to engineer red and blue
sideband couplings, nonlinear photon hopping and classical gauge fields. We
discuss how these dynamically tunable superconducting circuits enable key
applications in the fields of all optical quantum computing, continuous
variable quantum information and quantum simulation - all within the reach of
state of the art in circuit-QED experiments.Comment: 11 pages, 4 figure
A HREEL investigation of adsorption and dissociation of NO on a Rh(110) surface
The adsorption and dissociation of NO on a Rh(110) surface in the temperature range from 100 to 300 K has been studied by means of high-resolution electron energy loss (HREEL) spectroscopy. At 100 K only one adsorption state of NO, assigned to bridge-bonded NO species, is observed at the whole NO coverage range. The N-O stretching frequency of this species increases from 1560 to 1710 cm-1 with increasing NO coverage. NO decomposition, which occurs readily at temperatures above 170 K has been studied for NO coverages less than 0.3 of the saturated NO coverage at 100 K. The HREELS data have shown that the fraction of NO molecules which undergo dissociation increases with increasing temperature and with decreasing initial NO coverage. For the highest NO coverages considered (0.3 of saturation at 100 K) all NO molecules decompose at 240 K. A variety of loss features are observed in the HREEL spectra after decomposition of different amounts of NO. These HREEL data are explained on the basis of comparison with the HREEL spectra measured for oxygen, nitrogen and mixed oxygen and nitrogen layers on Rh(110). It has been established that the variety of loss features observed after dissociation of NO is due to different oxygen states on the surface. The observed effect of the dissociation products on the N-O stretching frequencies have heen discussed considering the factors that can account for the blue-shifts observed in the presence of electronegative surface modifiers
Fixed Point Action and Topology in the CP^3 Model
We define a fixed point action in two-dimensional lattice
models. The fixed point action is a classical perfect lattice action, which is
expected to show strongly reduced cutoff effects in numerical simulations.
Furthermore, the action has scale-invariant instanton solutions, which enables
us to define a correct topological charge without topological defects. Using a
parametrization of the fixed point action for the model in a

On the Uniform Random Generation of Non Deterministic Automata Up to Isomorphism
In this paper we address the problem of the uniform random generation of non
deterministic automata (NFA) up to isomorphism. First, we show how to use a
Monte-Carlo approach to uniformly sample a NFA. Secondly, we show how to use
the Metropolis-Hastings Algorithm to uniformly generate NFAs up to isomorphism.
Using labeling techniques, we show that in practice it is possible to move into
the modified Markov Chain efficiently, allowing the random generation of NFAs
up to isomorphism with dozens of states. This general approach is also applied
to several interesting subclasses of NFAs (up to isomorphism), such as NFAs
having a unique initial states and a bounded output degree. Finally, we prove
that for these interesting subclasses of NFAs, moving into the Metropolis
Markov chain can be done in polynomial time. Promising experimental results
