Light-induced metal-insulator transition in a switchable mirror.
Rare earth hydride films can be converted reversibly from metallic mirrors to insulating windows simply by changing the surrounding hydrogen gas pressure at room temperature. At low temperatures, in situ doping is not possible in this way as hydrogen cannot diffuse. However, our finding of persistent photoconductivity under ultraviolet illumination offers an attractive possibility to tune yttrium hydride through the T = 0 metal-insulator transition. Conductivity and Hall measurements are used to determine critical exponents. The unusually large value for the product of the static and dynamical critical exponents appears to signify the important role played by electron-electron interactions
Systematics of Anti magnetic rotation in even-even Cd isotopes
The lifetimes for the high spin levels of the yrast band of Cd has
been measured. The estimated B(E2) values decrease with increase in angular
momentum. This is the characteristic of Anti magnetic rotation as reported in
Cd. However, alignment behavior of Cd is completely
different from its even-even neighbors. A model based on classical particle
plus rotor has been used to explore the underlying systematics and develop a

Growth and Hemato-Immunological Response to Dietary i-Carrageenan in Labeo rohita (Hamilton, 1822) Juveniles
The study was performed over a period of 60 days to evaluate the effect of dietary carrageenan on growth, hematology, biochemistry, and innate immunity in rohu Labeo rohita. A basal diet supplemented with iota (i)Carrageenan at 5, 10 and 20g/kg was fed to three different groups of fish for 60 days. The fish were examined 15, 30, 45, and 60 days after commencement of the study. Parameters for growth (absolute growth, specific growth rate, and percentage weight gain), hematology (total erythrocyte count, total leucocyte count, thrombocyte count and hemoglobin value), biochemistry (total serum protein, albumin, globulin and albuminglobulin ratio), and innate immunity (nitroblue tetrazolium NBT, and myeloperoxidase MPO, activity) were monitored to assess the effect of the iCarrageenan based diet in L. rohita. All the parameters examined (growth, hematology, biochemistry, and innate immunity) increased significantly (P<0.05) in carrageenan-fed groups compared to the control group. However, the highest values for those parameters were found on the 60th day in the group which was fed a 10 g/kg i-Carrageenan diet. The study suggests that a 10 g/kg diet of i-carrageenan enhances immunity and the overall health status in L. rohita
Optical spin-transfer-torque-driven domain-wall motion in a ferromagnetic semiconductor
We demonstrate optical manipulation of the position of a domain wall in a dilute magnetic semiconductor,GaMnAsP. Two main contributions are identified. First, photocarrier spin exerts a spin-transfer torque on the magnetization via the exchange interaction. The direction of the domain-wall motion can be controlled using the helicity of the laser. Second, the domain wall is attracted to the hot spot generated by the focused laser. Unlike magnetic-field-driven domain-wall depinning, these mechanisms directly drive domain-wall motion, providing an optical tweezerlike ability to position and locally probe domain walls
Casimir Effect on the Worldline
We develop a method to compute the Casimir effect for arbitrary geometries.
The method is based on the string-inspired worldline approach to quantum field
theory and its numerical realization with Monte-Carlo techniques. Concentrating
on Casimir forces between rigid bodies induced by a fluctuating scalar field,
we test our method with the parallel-plate configuration. For the
experimentally relevant sphere-plate configuration, we study curvature effects
quantitatively and perform a comparison with the ``proximity force
approximation'', which is the standard approximation technique. Sizable
curvature effects are found for a distance-to-curvature-radius ratio of a/R >~
0.02. Our method is embedded in renormalizable quantum field theory with a
controlled treatment of the UV divergencies. As a technical by-product, we
develop various efficient algorithms for generating closed-loop ensembles with
