Our paper focuses on describing and analysing symphony orchestra management in Finland. We are interested to investigate howprofessional Finnish symphony orchestras havefaced the role of government and how theyconstruct the organization-environment relationships in a changing context. Our study pointsout that symphony orchestra management isconstructed in different ways based on a varietyof values and orientations of multiple actors. The actors have different interpretations of theeconomy of the orchestra, of the environmentand of the orchestra's mission and quality ofmusic. We conclude to two models of orchestramanagement: Local Dynamism and Global Continuity and discuss their implications to the institutional theory
