    Supersonic boundary-layer flow turbulence modeling

    Get PDF
Baldwin-Lomax and kappa-epsilon turbulence models were modified for use in Navier-Stokes numerical computations of Mach 2.9 supersonic turbulent boundary layer flows along compression ramps. The computational results of Reynolds shear stress profiles were compared with experimental data. The Baldwin-Lomax model was modified to account for the Reynolds shear stress amplification within the flow field. A hybrid kappa-epsilon model with viscous sublayer turbulence treatment was constructed to predict the Reynolds shear stress profiles within the entire flow field. These modified turbulence models were effective for the computations of the surface pressure and the skin friction factor variations along an 8 deg ramp surface. The hybrid kappa-epsilon model could improve the predictions of the Reynolds shear stress profile and the skin friction factor near the corner of a 16 deg ramp

Using the Kübler-Ross Model of Grief with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD): An Analysis of Manchester by the Sea

People may encounter different stages of grief during the course of bereavement, and not everyone can achieve a positive state of mind. This study intended to analyze how the characters in Manchester by the Sea, mainly Lee Chandler, Patrick Chandler, and Randi, manage their emotional responses when they are facing the loss of a loved one. The study used Elisabeth Kübler-Ross’s five-stage model of grief and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) to analyze how these characters transition through their grief and whether they are likely to suffer from mental illness. Some people, like Randi and Patrick in the film, may recover from bereavement; however, some people, like Lee, may not, eventually becoming afflicted with mental illness or PTSD

Non-asymptotically AdS/dS Solutions and Their Higher Dimensional Origins

We look for and analyze in some details some exact solutions of Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton gravity with one or two Liouville-type dilaton potential(s) in an arbitrary dimension. Such a theory could be obtained by dimensionally reducing Einstein-Maxwell theory with a cosmological constant to a lower dimension. These (neutral/magnetic/electric charged) solutions can have a (two) black hole horizon(s), cosmological horizon, or a naked singularity. Black hole horizon or cosmological horizon of these solutions can be a hypersurface of positive, zero or negative constant curvature. These exact solutions are neither asymptotically flat, nor asymptotically AdS/dS. But some of them can be uplifted to a higher dimension, and those higher dimensional solutions are either asymptotically flat, or asymptotically AdS/dS with/without a compact constant curvature space. This observation is useful to better understand holographic properties of these non-asymptotically AdS/dS solutions.Comment: Revtex4, v2: 17 pages, typos corrected, minor changes and references adde

<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>The Gγ-158(C→T) polymorphism plays important function in the clinical variability of HbE/β-thalassemia. There is little known about Gγ-158(C→T) polymorphism in HbE/β-thalassemia major in Southern China. This study aimed to explore the association between HbE/β-thalassemia major and this polymorphism in Southern China.</p> <p>Methods and Results</p> <p>The frequency of the Gγ-158(C→T) polymorphism has been evaluated in 32 patients with HbE/β-thalassemia major from Southern China. Further analysis of the Gγ-158(C→T) polymorphism revealed the prominent frequency of this polymorphic pattern among HbE/β-thalassemia major patients (65.63%). The presence of this polymorphism was strongly correlated with the increase of HbF synthesis.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>The frequency of the Gγ-158(C→T) polymorphism was relatively high in Southern Chinese patients with HbE/β-thalassemia major, often accompanying with high production of HbF. This feature appears to be different with reports in other races and regions.</p

Two new species of the genus Helina Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 from Sichuan, China are described and illustrated, i.e. Helina fulvibasicosta Ming-Fu Wang sp. n. and Helina flavipes Ming-Fu Wang&amp;Chen Sun sp. n. After re-examining the holotype, Helina occidentalisinica Feng, Shi &amp; Li, 2005 is transferred to the genus Hebecnema Schnabl
