Detecting attacks to computer networks using a multi-layer perceptron artificial neural network

    Get PDF
In this paper, we present concepts in artificial neural networks (ANN) to help detect intrusion attacks against network computers, and introduce and compare a multi-layer perceptron ANN (MLPANN) with Snort, an open-source tool for intrusion detection systems (IDS). To conduct these comparison experiments, we inserted malicious traffic into the MLPANN to train our ANN, with results indicating that our ANN detected 99% of these input attacks

First, modular connectionist networks are studied. In this kind of network, groups of neurons may be associated with rule antecedents or consequents. Next, we show some ways by which these networks are associated with fuzzy logic concepts (neuro-fuzzy systems). An algorithm for incremental rule is proposed for these systems. Strucutural modification as well as parameters adaptation are considered. New rules are added periodically to deal with patterns which are not yet convered by the existing rules. The error that results from the application of each rule is used as an indication for membership function construction ...

    No full text
Nowadays the surface EMG measurement and its signal analysis have combined two important techniques in order to improve the signal resolution and better investigate single motor units: measurements configurations with smaller pick-up areas and application of the spatial filtering to electromyography. Smaller pick-up areas can be achieved through multielectrode arrays and multichannel recording, making possible the detection of correlated excitations at different sites of the muscle. Spatial filters combine the information of several electrodes to form one output signal channel. This work aims at evaluating the EMG signals measured from some subjects with a linear array of 16 electrodes and compare their resolution through the application of Bipolar, Longitudinal Double Diferentiating and Longitudinal Quadruple Diferentiating spatial filters
