Regional gray matter volumetric changes in autism associated with social and repetitive behavior symptoms.

BackgroundAlthough differences in brain anatomy in autism have been difficult to replicate using manual tracing methods, automated whole brain analyses have begun to find consistent differences in regions of the brain associated with the social cognitive processes that are often impaired in autism. We attempted to replicate these whole brain studies and to correlate regional volume changes with several autism symptom measures.MethodsWe performed MRI scans on 24 individuals diagnosed with DSM-IV autistic disorder and compared those to scans from 23 healthy comparison subjects matched on age. All participants were male. Whole brain, voxel-wise analyses of regional gray matter volume were conducted using voxel-based morphometry (VBM).ResultsControlling for age and total gray matter volume, the volumes of the medial frontal gyri, left pre-central gyrus, right post-central gyrus, right fusiform gyrus, caudate nuclei and the left hippocampus were larger in the autism group relative to controls. Regions exhibiting smaller volumes in the autism group were observed exclusively in the cerebellum. Significant partial correlations were found between the volumes of the caudate nuclei, multiple frontal and temporal regions, the cerebellum and a measure of repetitive behaviors, controlling for total gray matter volume. Social and communication deficits in autism were also associated with caudate, cerebellar, and precuneus volumes, as well as with frontal and temporal lobe regional volumes.ConclusionGray matter enlargement was observed in areas that have been functionally identified as important in social-cognitive processes, such as the medial frontal gyri, sensorimotor cortex and middle temporal gyrus. Is schizoaffective disorder a distinct categorical diagnosis? A critical review of the literature

Considerable debate surrounds the inclusion of schizoaffective disorder in psychiatric nosology. Schizoaffective disorder may be a variant of schizophrenia in which mood symptoms are unusually prominent but not unusual in type. This condition may instead reflect a severe form of either major depressive or bipolar disorder in which episode-related psychotic symptoms fail to remit completely between mood episodes. Alternatively, schizoaffective disorder may reflect the co-occurrence of two relatively common psychiatric illnesses, schizophrenia and a mood disorder (major depressive or bipolar disorder). Each of these formulations of schizoaffective disorder presents nosological challenges because the signs and symptoms of this condition cross conventional categorical diagnostic boundaries between psychotic disorders and mood disorders. The study, evaluation, and treatment of persons presently diagnosed with schizoaffective may be more usefully informed by a dimensional approach. It is in this context that this article reviews and contrasts the categorical and dimensional approaches to its description, neurobiology, and treatment. Based on this review, an argument for the study and treatment of this condition using a dimensional approach is offered

Eficacia de los procesos jurisdiccionales, a raíz del caso los cuellos blancos del puerto, 2022

La investigación tuvo como propósito indagar con mejor evidencia científica disponible, la eficacia de los procesos jurisdiccionales, a raíz del caso los cuellos blancos del puerto, frente a evidencias de una red criminal en el sistema de justicia peruano que direccionaba y comercializaba los fallos judiciales y puestos de trabajo, en contraposición del interés público. La metodología utilizada fue de tipo básica, de enfoque cualitativo, nivel de investigación descriptiva y diseño de análisis temático. Se empleó el instrumento de guía de entrevista, dirigida a expertos como abogados, jueces y sociólogos; empleándose también la guía de análisis documental y de estudio de caso para el análisis de normas y artículos. Se utilizó el método híbrido. Finalmente se concluyó que nuestro sistema de justicia se encuentra en una grave crisis institucional y poco o nada se ha hecho por revertir esta situación, desde la propia Institución, así como del propio Estado, acrecentando aún más la desconfianza de los justiciables sobre todo en los procesos emblemáticos como es el caso de los mal llamados hermanitos, entre otros. Se propuso como categoría emergente, la eliminación del antejuicio político de altos funcionarios frente a la comisión de delitos en ejercicio de funciones que incluye a Jueces y Fiscales Supremos

El grave problema social de las uniones maritales de hecho, extendido por todas partes, nos ha impulsado a plantear la "Necesidad de incorporar en la norma Sustantiva el Derecho Sucesorio en el concubinato", con la finalidad de generar un aporte a las autoridades legislativas, a I os operadores del derecho y a la sociedad, para buscar una solución justa y oportuna para la gran cantidad de personas que viven en esta situación, En estos últimos meses vemos con agrado que se ha legislado y ya es una realidad en nuestro ordenamiento jurídico. Las Uniones de Hecho han subsistido a través de los siglos y ha sido reconocido en diversos cuerpos de leyes, consideramos que lo principal de normar juridicamente y en forma positiva el concubinato en nuestro código ahora es acerca de las posibles repercusiones y efectos que pueda tener este y sus derivaciones en forma frontal y responsable. El presente, es producto de una investigación integral y sistemática, que describe y discute los conceptos básicos y más relevantes de la figura del concubinato o unión de hecho, relacionándolos con el Derecho de Sucesiones y el Derecho de Familia. Calidad y satisfacción con el cuidado de enfermería en pacientes postoperatorios inmediatos en la unidad de recuperación del Hospital Nacional Arzobispo Loayza, Lima, 2022.

Introducción: Los pacientes al ingresar a servicio de la Unidad de Recuperación Post inmediatos; las demandas de atención al paciente aumentan con gran medida, tanto como estatales y no estatales, debido a las continuas quejas de maltrato, la mala calidad y satisfacción por parte de profesional de la salud. Por ello, es esencial brindar una calidad de atención por parte del profesional y una satisfacción de buen trato para el beneficio del paciente. Objetivo: Determinar la relación que existe entre la calidad de atención y la satisfacción de los pacientes postoperatorios inmediatos en la Unidad de Recuperación del Hospital Nacional Arzobispo Loayza, Lima, 2022. Métodos: el estudio será hipotético deductivo, cuantitativo, correlacional, trasversal y no experimental. La población y muestra probabilística por racimos estará conformada por 160 paciente postoperados inmediatos en la Unidad de Recuperación Hospital Nacional Arzobispo Loayza. La muestra será tomada en mes de julio de 2022 utilizando una modificación de cuestionario de satisfacción del paciente que fue validado en Venezuela en el 2007 por Felman y en el Perú en el 2016 por Palomino et al. Así como el cuestionario de la calidad del cuidado de enfermería validado en el Perú en el 2018 por Chuquihuaccha et al. que recogerán datos para ser procesados mediante pruebas no paramétricas para identificar la relación entre ambas variables a fin de probar que la satisfacción del paciente postoperado inmediato está relacionada con la calidad del cuidado de enfermería

Effects of human-animal relationship on animal productivity and welfare

This is a literature review of the effects of humans´ relationships with farm animals on animal productivity and welfare, including the following topics: definition of the concept and description of different tests that have been developed to measure human-animal relationship (HAR). Temperament and tameness, which have been considered as farm animal characteristics that are important in HAR, as are stockperson attitudes. Some international farm animal welfare protocols are also described, together with negative and positive stimuli that affect farm animal welfare and productivity. In addition to some factors affecting the quality of HAR. We conclude that even with improved precision farming and automation: a) a good HAR is still fundamental to improve farm animal welfare with associated health and production benefits and b) with the numerous tests assessing fear of humans, many are not commercially applicable.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Functional imaging of hippocampal dysfunction among persons with Alzheimer’s disease: a proof-of-concept study

Cholinergic deficits are an early and functionally significant manifestation of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). These deficits contribute to impairment of hippocampally mediated information processing, including declarative memory impairments and abnormal auditory sensory gating. A functional imaging technique that facilitates identification of changes in cholinergically dependent hippocampal information processing would be of considerable use in the study and clinical evaluation of persons with this condition. Techniques that interrogate hippocampal function passively, ie, in a manner requiring no cognitive effort or novel task learning during the neuroimaging procedure, would also be especially useful in this cognitively impaired population. The functional magnetic resonance imaging sensory gating paradigm developed at the University of Colorado, CO, USA, is a functional neuroimaging technique that possesses both of these characteristics. We developed a demonstration project using this paradigm in which we passively interrogated hippocampal function in two subjects with probable AD of mild severity. Imaging data were quick and easy in these subjects and served usefully as an initial demonstration of the feasibility of using this neuroimaging method in this population. Preliminary analyses of the data obtained from these subjects identified abnormal blood oxygen level-dependent responses when compared with four healthy comparators, and the pattern of these responses was consistent with impaired function of the auditory sensory gating network. The strengths and limitations of this neuroimaging paradigm and the additional issues that require investigation in order to continue its development into a research and clinical technique for use in this population are discussed
